I once saw him in PC World with a very anguished expression on his face. I looked closer and saw he was standing by a selection of printers. He appeared to be most interested in two in particular: one was Epson, the other Toshiba. He looked genuinely at a loss as to which he should procure, given both esteemed companies are official United partners.

I walked over to him and said, as gently and soothingly as I could: "Paul, I would go with Epson, mate."

"Better quality?" he asked, grateful of the assistance in his hour of need.

"No," I replied. "Its just that Epson are the official office supplies sponsor. Whereas Toshiba are for medical supplies. Are your printing needs medical in nature, Paul?"

"No," said he. "It is for the kids, mostly. For school, and for the wife to print out her discount vouchers."

"Epson it is then," I said.

Whereupon he picked up the box, nodded his head in thanks and proceeded to the cash register to pay.

Salt of the earth company man, is Mr Scholes.
He plays for manchester united and his wife is printing off 2 for the price of one vouchers from Tescos?

You know I was thinking the same thing. But then it's the same as a story I saw in the sun, the mcds worker was talking about Arshavin going in there and using vouchers.

But then at the same time, just because they have more money why should they pay more than they have to?

I suppose, I agree with you it just seems a bit too much hassle when you think about it in context.

it's not like his wife has to work so if it was mine I'd be asking how she spends her time, so she better be clipping coupons.

ok, that's what I say I'd do. in reality my wife would kill me. ;)

Possibly, but it's all about value isn't it. Just because you have money you shouldn't forget the value of things as that's how you'll end up wasting money. I don't know how I would be if I was earning that kind of money, but I don't have a problem with rich people using vouchers if they so wish.

It's the type of thing you'd expect from him tbh,

Chaddy Park FC is the club local to my parents. I was nice of Scholes to open the changing rooms but I preferred the old cricket club that was there. The residents are none too impressed with all the cars that congregate down there on a Sunday either. You have to give it to the people who run the club though: they have got Scholes down there, David May is involved, and they got some of the Waterloo Road cast to take part in a charity match for them.

Yeah, Scholes is a dead cert to reach the 100 mark.

Strange because up until the last couple of seasons I never thought of Scholes as a rough player, I didn't think his booking count would be so high.

In fairness, he's played one hundred more games than Bowyer.

Wouldn't call Scholes 'rough', he just can't tackle pure and simple. He's never really injured anyone.

Just saw that he is odds on favourite with some bookies to become the next Oldham manager, after Dickov stepped aside.

Has Scholesy even done his badges?

No chance of this for me, I'm just not sure I could ever see shy Paul Scholes as a gaffer.

Googled it and only found a story about him starting them, and him saying he doesn't know if he will complete them. That was from 2011.

I can't really see him leaving mid-season, but hey it's football.

Not really concerned about the bookies odds since they could be a reflection of people betting or the bookies setting the odds based on how they expect people to bet. And that could be solely based on people assuming something will happen because he was an Oldham supporter.

No reason for him to leave yet - and I doubt Fergie would even allow him to. We're challenging on 3 fronts at the moment, we need as many men as we can to handle the busy fixtures.

I don't see Fergie letting him go at this stage, though he seems to have drifted out of the first team picture of late. He'll probably leave with our best wishes during the summer if he does fancy being a manager.

saving him for the stretch run I imagine - if we are still in the CL, FA cup then he'll help with rotation and also his experience for another title finish aswell or if one of the other mids pick up an injury

Scholes returned to the Red Devils fold in 2012 but when asked by a fan 'would you ever manage Oldham Athletic?' he responded positively.

'It’s quite difficult to say. I don’t know what will happen when I stop playing and Oldham have a manager,' he said.

'But I love Oldham and it’s the first result I look out for every week. I take my lad to watch them whenever I can.'

He went into Youth coaching when he retired last time IIRC at United like Ole, so no reason that he won't become a manager. He is shy media wise, but don't think he is a total recluse who will go and settle in the bahamas alone or something.

Can't see him leaving to manage a team right now. Perhaps at the end of the season, but not before then.

Yeah, think the Oldham Chairman has said he can have the job if he's interested and willing to take a massive massive paycut. Ian Dowie seems more likely though.

And they need a manager in the next couple of weeks. Can't see it happening. Besides, it will be more of a romantic decision if he takes up that job anyway. If he has real intention to go into management, surely he can start at a higher level than a skint club fighting relegation in league 1 ?

I watched the Oldham representative indicate that they have had close to 50 applications for the manager's job. I doubt very much if Paul Scholes is one of them. I would imagine that he would be focussed on finishing the season with Manchester United and then assess his options.

With a chance to add a medal or two this season to complete his illustrious career, why would he leave United to manage a troubled League One team?

Anyway, it's better to start managing this summer before the season begin; and I don't think he would struggle to get a manager position later on.

There is no way we can let him Oldham have him at this stage of the season. We are not particularly stocked in the area. Fletcher is already out, Ando is as reliable as a politician and Jones is out with shingles. We have a lot of games coming up and he is needed.

QPR couldn't really let Nelsen go but they did.

I think if Scholes asked then Fergie would let him go. However, I don't think he will ask to leave.
