When I thought about "who did we miss today?"... Giggs was the first name I thought off, but yeah, Scholes would have been useful as well. There's no way he could have been made things worse then they were anyway!

would definitely have made a huge difference today.
Really? You're pinning you're hopes on a player who's very much past his prime against a midfield who are years younger and fitter.

This isn't Wigan at home where we're 3-0 up with 15 mins left

Err both Giggsy and Scholes have been past their prime for years now. Still doing pretty well.

He would have given us more composure and better ball retention. Cleverley was knackered and lost.

no im not pinning my hopes on him. but however many times hes been overrun against certain teams this season, i can honestly say ive never seen paul scholes come on and not at the very least help us keep the ball better. people forget this is the same scholes who THIS season van persie praised beyond words, and made over 130 passes against tottenham. we failed to string any passes together in the 2nd half, in my opinion, there is not even a small chance scholes would not have helped in that regard.

I think it would have been even worse with Scholes playing. His legs have long gone, I fail to see how him desperately chasing Ramires round would have helped our side.

We missed Giggs more than Scholes. After Lampard went off, Carrick and Cleverley were under the cosh. How would Scholesy fared any better?

I thought today was the kind of game where his influence is missed, his ability to control the tempo and calm things when in possession was what we needed to settle down and stem the Chelsea momentum in the 2nd half.
I was actually thinking the same thing. Said we should bring on scholes to help us get the ball under control when we couldn't seem to pass the ball in the midfield at all, before remembering that he was still injured.

:nono:Wrong assessment mate! Scholes didn't really need to be chasing younger legs and still made a positive influence to calm nerves, keep possession and execute perfect passing. With Scholes, it's seldem about running blindly or chasing around opposition like Tevez or Ji sung did

I seriously can't wait for him to come back. Cleverley clearly cannot hack it two games in a row and Anderson is not wanted. Rather have zombie midfield than no midfield at all.

Hopefully, we'll get the same reinvigorated Scholes that we got after he came back from retirement last season. The last game he started for us was on Jan, 5th and the last time he made an appearances was on Jan, 26th against Fulham at home. His batteries surely must be recharged to come and play a role in the final 13 games of the season.

We have rarely controlled the games this season as we did last season with him in the team.

Sadly, he's finished.

Hopefully he gets a run out at OT before the end of the season.

I think Fergie said he should be ready for next game, so I hope he will get some minutes against Sunderland. I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting either.

Really would have been perfect if we'd won the title last season, and Scholes could have bowed out having played such a huge part in getting number 20. Like a fairytale ending, coming back and helping us win the title, I guess it just wasnt meant to be in the end.

As it was I, like many others, were concerned that Scholes whole rejuvenation if you like, last season, was down to the fact that he'd had 6 months rest. And that this season would just be too much, which seems to be the case. Although, I still feel that we could have used him far more effectively this season if we'd set up with tactics that catered to his needs.

We didn't look much better without him this season either, I think critics on him were harsh. Okay, he wasn't good as he was last season, but he played ok, especially when you consider how many times we looked poor lately, particulary in keeping possesion.

I highly doubt SAF is thinking like this. I'd be willing to bet on Scholesy featuring quite a bit in the run-in.

Of course he'll be important, we know how much importance SAF gives to the old guard (a choice that's been vindicated more often than not) and both he and Giggs could be very important in the last few months, especially if we push for the double and need to rotate a bit more.

It's a bit too late for anyone to suddenly become important tbh. The league's won already.

I guess Scholes could yet play some part in our winning the FA Cup, but it's a big ask imo.

The league does indeed seem already won, but we're not just going to go into games lackadaisically (in any case I bloody hope not) and we're going to fight to get as many points as possible. I'm sure that's a source of motivation for the squad. If we go through in the FA Cup and can really push for that trophy as well, then everyone in the squad will have to play their part. Scholes' importance probably won't be as visible as it was last year, but I don't think we should underestimate the importance he could have in certain tight games or games when opposition tries to put us under pressure.

And though he's not having an amazing season by his standards (and in comparison to last season), I still feel he's played his part in getting us in the position we are today.

People like you thinking this way is exactly why we bottled it last year - there is still plenty of potential banana skins left, we could easily drop 15 points if we don't perform.

Yeah, we could easily drop 15 points in 9 games while City win all their remaining games. Honestly, this stuff is ridiculous, there's no need for false modesty. It's like we play Norwich at home and people come and tell us it's a very tough fixture and a potential 'banana skin'. We don't even have 'plenty' games left let alone difficult ones and we'd have to drop more points in the remaining 9 than we've dropped in 29 so far. Also, City would have to go on the best run since takeover I think with 9 wins in a row.

It's done, no need to come and tell us that Villa at home will be the most difficult game in history and we could easily fail to win any of the 9 games. I don't think there was a period in Premier League when we'd struggle to get 12 out of 27 points.

It's not exactly like the position we were in last year when one loss and one draw would have put us level with City if they managed to beat us at their place which was very probable. This time it's as over as it could be.

Forget even that Sarni. How Cider saying we've won the league on the caf is going to lead the squad to bottling is what am interested in.

That too. I can see players thinking to themselves 'oh look, they think we've won it over there at RedCafe, let's lose to Sunderland, West Ham, Stoke, City, Chelsea and Arsenal and have the worst period in our Premier League history with relegation form'.

We didn't bottle it last season because of complacency or anything. Wigan outplayed us and were in great form, Everton put 4 past us at a time when they were hardly losing any games either. City beating us at Etihad wasn't a surprise at all. We simply were not good enough.

If Mario Kart has taught me anything it's that the race leader doesn't often spin out on banana skins. We're way too far ahead of City for them to hit us with a red shell; and even on the off chance that somebody picks up the blue shell as we prepare for the final bend, we've got a good enough lead so that we can take the hit and still cruise to the finish line laughing. We're throwing the fecking banana skins, not trying to dodge the cnuts.

I somehow doubt the complaceny of some people on an Internet forum affected the title race. Call me crazy, but the two don't seem all that connected.

United aren't exactly in inspiring form these days, losing to Madrid (bloody ref), drawing with Chelsea and scraping past Reading. I do believe that if we win against Sunderland it's done and dusted but if we somehow lose against Sunderland and then against City at home, with the FA cup replay in between, It's a 9 point lead with 7 games to play.

If you can't see the connection of how our over confidence on this forum effected the team, then yes you're crazy...

Sometimes from my mario kart experience, you can be miles In the lead, lose concentration and fall off the edge of the track. Suddenly that lead isn't quite so big, and a nasty red shell hits you in the ass. now all of a sudden a big black bullet is racing up your ass, your neck neck to the finish line!.

It isn't over until it's over. We've still got stoke away, arsenal away, Chelsea home, city home. That is quite possibly 4 losses if we are not game.

I know it's a long shot but last year we all thought it was safe, I hope to god we don't even give them a sniff but I just wonder if we do lose, will the memory of last year come back to haunt us?.

We hardly have mentally the strongest team right now, quite a few times we have surrendered leads.

We're on Luigi Raceway not Yoshi Valley; we can't fall off the fecking track.
