Can't say I watched him much at Porto either. Although I do remember him being decent in a game against us.

If you look at style of play and productivity, though, he couldn't be less like Kagawa. Kagawa scored and assisted almost every other game and excels at operating in tight spaces and slipping the ball through to forwards with perfectly weighted passes (something we haven't yet seen a lot of at United).

According to this website, Anderson got 2 goals and one assist in his entire career in Portugal. Which makes sense having watched his struggles to trouble goalkeepers and wildly overhit passes throughout his time at United.

I still like Anderson and when he's on form he brings a drive to the team that nobody else does. What I will never understand is how anyone can have watched what he does and doesn't do well, then conclude that he should have been played as a number 10.
Nail, head, wallop and all that.

Maybe we should let him go on a season long loan somewhere to see if he can get a ton of first team football. Maybe that will be the catalyst he needs to hit the heights he is potentially capable of?

6 years is a long time. The few games he's gotten in the run-in suggests that Fergie has given up on him. He and Nani are goners, imo.

As a young player, he was hugely talented (no pun intended), and is a generally likable guy who I have willed to succeed. However, we need someone better and more reliable. This idea of trying to combine Anderson and Cleverley together to make one very good midfielder is a joke now. I don't see why we must have only one midfielder in Carrick who you can confidently say will make the team, and then his partner shared between about 5 players. It's all covering over the fact that for one reason or another, none are good enough. When I was growing up, we had Keane and Scholes who, come saturday at Anfield or Highbury, you knew would be starting. Now, Carrick could literally turn up next to anybody! Nicky Butt who was a back-up in those days would walk into our team alongside Carrick I reckon.

If he's not inured, surely he's on his way out? Not being at least able to make the bench vs West Ham, when we have so few options as it is just doesn't look good.

I've heard that Porto want him back real bad and united wouldn't mind doing business.
I doubt anyone wants Anderson 'real bad'. Someone might take a chance on him and try to turn him into a player but with his current level no one will really want him that much.

Anderson and Nani are gone IMO. So after 6 years all of our Summer 2007 spending spree acquisitions will be gone and none of them will really be considered a success.

A bit ironic. What an incredible day of rejoicing on the Cafe when we landed Anderson and Nani. I remember pictures of Gill and Quieroz being posted, looking like the cats who'd got the cream.

I wasn't rejoicing when Nani and Ando were landed. They were actually a surprised signing that (almost) nobody (in the Caf) ever mentioned as players they wanted United to sign. And definitely not for the quoted price (15m, and up to 30m).

Now it's a bit different with Owen Hargreaves. He's one that I was looking forward to.

Oh yeah, Hargreaves, well excited when I heard he was joining. As excited as the last time I mowed my lawn.

A shame he wasn't at the ground, he's always good for a laugh or two during celebrations.

Yep, but a lot of the squad wasn't. Scholes, Young, him, Vidic etc

Why has Anderson got his top off during the celebrations? Haha.

Anyway, back to reality, he has played less PL games than Scholes and Giggs this season...

Think he is off.

Anderson brought the urgency we lacked in the first half when he came on. Several forward passes that were outrightly brilliant were made by him. He played ever so well.

He looked lively when he came on, don't think he was great defensively but certainly brought some much needed energy and played some excellent passes. He was unfortunate with a reverse to Nani which was just a bit too tough to control.

He excels when the opposition is tired, there is lots of space and he is on full energy.

Played well today, but ultimately, a player's report card is accumulated over a much longer period than one match.

If he hadn't got the ball caught up in his stride we would might have scored one of the goals of the season orchestrated by him from our own half. Overall he was decent when he came one, did he need the appearance to get a medal?

We're used to these cameos with him, it's not enough I'm afraid. Imagine what a side we'd be with someone who could do that over 90 minutes and regularly throughout a season.
