He "had" a hamstring injury. Pretty sure he meant earlier in the season when he was out for a few months.

Its normal that managers will say that players are not for sale. Else the price starts going down

Hmm, it's the bit about bringing him back in pre-season and being alright. I guess there would likely have been articles saying he's played his last game if he was injured but who knows?

I guess that part could mean that he's in fergie's plans for next year? We will find out tomorrow. Surely if he's fit he will play some part.

I am sure Fergie would like to have Nani as a luxury squad player. I very much doubt that's part of Nani's plans though.

Wasn't he saying the same about Berbatov up until even after we signed RVP last summer ?

Doesn't mean much unless Nani signs the new contract.

I still don't believe him. He's got a year left on his contract and it doesn't seem like he's either signing or getting another one. He's just trying to build the price up, if he said he's for sale we don't have much room for negotiations.

Yeah SAF kind of contradicts himself here a bit suggesting no-one is for sale because he also recently said that we're expecting to get one or two players in and that at times this season we had too many players and trying to keep them happy was difficult and he doesn't want to be in that situation again (or words to that effect). Something will have to give. Inevitably some will have to go.

That's pretty much it, yes.

From a transfer-tactical (sorry) perspective it's the smartest thing Fergie could say: I regard him as a squad player. Come and get him if you want - but I'm not desperate to sell him at all, so he won't come cheaply.

Scholes, Fletcher ? Assuming 1 of the 2 incomings are in midfield.

Possibly Anderson too.

But he is going to go for cheap. He has hardly played this season and he hasnt exactly lit up the league when ever he has. This coupled with the fact that there is only 12 months left on his contract means he will go for cheap. We would do well to get £15-17m which is a bad price given the fact that we paid that much for him in the 1st place and also given his talent, if he had a few years left in his contract or was in the form as last season, then he could easily go for £25m+.

I don't quite get your drift, to be honest. He does have a year left on his contract and he isn't in the form of his life - these are the facts, nothing much we can do about it. If we are indeed willing to let him go, what else can we do but try to get as much for him as possible? I don't think Fergie or Gill...sorry, Ed, would be too displeased with 17M for him at this stage.

Looking over my shoulder.
Hopefully he stays and plays a more vital part than a mere squad player at this stage in his career. He was arguably top five wingers in Europe last season and the season before. At that time I would pretty much have picked him ahead of any wingers bar Ronaldo, if you consider him a winger that is. There is no doubt imo that he can get back to those levels!

SAF once said to Sky Veron was not leaving.
He wasn't. He also said £15m was too good to refuse. I think the same will apply to Nani. If a big enough bid comes in he goes.. Otherwise he stays and we try to sort out a contract.

I think he will play a couple more games. I hope he stays but I doubt he will. He wants higher pay and more playing time. SAF playing Valencia even when he was shite, was enough to tell me where how he views Nani's role in the squad.

Ferguson also stated he hopes Nani, who is in contract discussions, remains at the club. "We have no plans to sell anyone. That's a fact," he said. "There is no need for us to sell. He played last week at Arsenal and I thought he did well. He had a hamstring injury. He is one of our squad players. When he is in form there are very few better than him. So I think we will bring him back in pre-season training and he will be all right."

Regarding whether Nani will sign on again, Ferguson said: "That is not my department. It is something David [Gill, the chief executive] and Jorge Mendes [the player's agent] are working on. That is ongoing. But there is no progress as far as I know."
I think his injuries have been downplayed quite a bit this season. He seems to have been struggling with a hamstring injury for most of the season. Have noticed a lot of the time he's been wearing the kinesio tape when he has been playing, so it may be something he's been struggling to shake off and the reason a lot of the time for why he hasn't featured.

Fair point. He probably has been less than 100% (or at least less than 100% match fit) on some occasions when Fergie hasn't picked him.

Nevertheless, I don't think Nani is pleased with the present state of things. There's a reason why he hasn't signed a new contract: Money, guarantees of a starting spot, I don't know - but everything is obviously not hunky dory.

I don't think Fergie is freezing him out, though. And his hamstring problem may very well be the reason why he's been seemingly "dropped" from time to time.

Selling Nani and keep Tony and Young, is kinda like getting rid of Michael Jackson, but keeping Jermaine and Tito.

Didn't SAF say he was injured ? Read comments about bringing him back for pre season somewhere.
