Surprised this thread hasn't been touch today. Thought he was absolutely superb at right back today, both defensively and going forward, forever making those driving runs to get around Valencia and providing an outlet.

Great performance by Jones.
Agreed. He looked like a lot of the team did: rusty but purposeful. He added a lot.

As much as I would like him to settle in at center-half, he plays very well at other positions. He's a real asset to the side.

Another player I am looking forward to flourish under LvG. Really rate him very highly, will be interesting to see if LvG sees him as CB or rather DM.

He is a centre-back of course, but he's also my preferred "make-shift" right-back in the squad at present. I thought he had a very solid game, both defensively and in terms of attacking.

Jones getting injured again and in a challenge which he did not have to go for. With Vidic gone and probably Rio, him Evans and Smalling need to stay fit for longer. Just gets way too excited and it isn't needed.

I said it in the match day thread, but he must have been the only guy out there tonight - other than David Meyler - that didn't know there was an FA Cup final and a World Cup coming up.

I've never done my shoulder in before, but I imagine that he'll miss the World Cup, which is a shame.

I've done mine before, provided it only came out a little and went back in immediately he should be fine. If it was a full dislocation then he'll miss the WC, also depends on other factors but generally speaking that's what I think.

Thanks. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. You'd hope he makes the finals.

He went to hospital for precautionary reasons.

Hopefully he will be fit for England.

Jones is a player that makes hard challenges and that should not be taken out of his games, but his decision making needs to be improved.

He's a fecking idiot really isn't he?

Never rely on when he gets injured flying into things in every game he plays.

His decision making and tendency to make ridiculous rash challenges, needs to be rectified ASAP.

I love his commitment to every header and tackle. However he clearly does need to wise up a little more, so that he can play more than 3 games in a row without missing the next 3 through injury.

He does need to be a little more careful, but he'll be our only CB willing to put his body on the line to win the ball next season now Vidic is gone

Hopefully he's alright, I think it would be a shame for him to miss the WC. He would be a real asset to any squad.

I am starting to think that he has no fear. Either that or no brain!

He's made of glass to be fair, I can't see us not bringing in another CB next season if Rio's gone as well ( as he should ), even if we promote Michael.

The guy is so painfully average and incredibly thick.

It would be a huge drop off to go from Ferdinand/Vidic to this guy and one other.
Got to remember he's only 22 and has been messed about with for 3 seasons. At the same age the best centrehalf in the Premier League according to you was playing for Tours FC in the french 3rd division.

He's either incredibly brave or incredibly thick. Or a really unhealthy blend of both. He seems to cause most of his injuries himself!

He has no sense of self preservation. I'm worried about his long term health because at the rate he is going he will have scrambled his brain through concussions.

Putting aside his kamikaze moments, nothing I have seen tells me he is/will be a top player.

The dude has got to learn not to fukk himself up so much. A bad knee injury could take him out for an entire season. For what?

Hard challenges in and around our box are all well and good. But most of his idiotic challenges occur much further up the pitch, today being a case in point.

Sprinting in without even looking at the ball or at the defender. And he didn't get anywhere near it. He's a head case and if he keeps going like this his career will be half as long as it might otherwise have been.

Can we please acknowledge he was actually elbowed before we call him thick?
I fail to see how he can be anything other than completely at fault when he charged in at top speed without even looking where he was going.

He had his eye on the ball and had complete commitment to it. I dont think there we anything wrong with him going for it

As others said, he cant just blindly challenge for the ball. He needs to be a bit smarter

Apart from it's exactly this why he keeps injuring himself. I've never known any player be responsible for their own injuries as much as Jones.

I don't know what he can do to correct it because he obviously needs to make challenges but he can't continue the way he is.

Cant remember the last time he went for a header at a corner and cracked his shoulder on the defender. When he dives in for awkward slide tackles its different, he could have done it with better technique or not dived in and still come away with the ball. However the only way he was going to head that corner was if he went to head it like he did.
