Yeah but in the end the 4-0 results stays for posterity. Portuguese supporters must put a thing in their heads, next times will be extremely hard because we don´t see standout talent (likes of Ronaldo, Figo, Rui Costa or Ricardo Carvalho caliber of players) coming up. The times of "golden generations" are coming to an end. Hope other clubs (besides Sporting) start contributing to that.
Perhaps that's Portugal's problem and why they have never won an international tournament.

Better to build a great team than rely on individuals.

I wish mods would somehow ban Messi and Ronaldo talk from Argentina and Portugal matches. The obsession some on here have with either or both the player is seriously unhealthy.

I missed this one. What the hell happened here? Did the Germans really look that strong or was it one of those freak results?

Because they are irresponsible and stupid, it's one thing to be a hothead but he's just out of control, and then you have Meireles giving the ref 2 fingers and potentially getting banned as well, if i were the manager i'd send them both home on the first flight, at a big stage like this you need players you can count on.
They obviously don't deserve to be there. Give someone more disciplined a chance to play. I also saw a few seconds of Nani and Coentrao fighting over the ball ? I don't think I'll watch anymore I'll just get more upset.

Andy Townsend referring to an open goal - "If it's on target he scores."
:D

To be fair it wasn´t really open. From the camera angle behind the goal you saw that if he shot it just a little more to the left he would have hit the defender. If she shot it past the defender on the other side, the goalie would have saved it. Basically he needed to curl it with the outside or use his left foot. That´s a bit too much to ask for Khedira. ;) It would have been perfect for the brilliance of Reus. He loves these kind of situations as Zinedine Neuer can attest to. :D

Muller really is a pathetic cheat though isn't he? If one of the Portuguese had done that the reaction would be far stronger.

He accidentally touched Muller, Muller was like "I'm dying", then Pepe went full retard and put his head onto Muller's head.
Yeah... Imo Müller definatly has a tendency to go down easy etc, but in that situation I found his reaction perfectly normal. If his intention was get Pepe into trouble he probably wouldve started with some actual acting after Pepe did his 'headbut' (for lack of a better word).
Going down after someone hits you in the face (out of nothing) is not necessarily acting.

Any reaction to the game? you'd hope Bento and the Portuguese team didn't try to defend Pepe.

Ze Germans absolutely dominated Portugal. Germany set up slow paced game. Their organization killed Portugal spirit, it was a game of disjointed team of great individuals vs cohesive team with clear tactics (which worked).

strange account

try this one. Pepe was really enoyed because his team was already 2 down. in particular after Hummels had outjumped him and Slam dunked the second into his face.
Then he decided to hold onto the ball as the last man instead of playing the simple pass. Muller started to close him down and threatend to nick the ball, so Pepe reached across Muller in an attempt to hold him back and slapped Muller in the face. He wanted that contact, to be nasty. if not he could have played the ball well before Muller was breathing down his Neck.

Pepe is a full time psycho, who only plays a fair sportsman to further insult his opponents when he is on top.

He probably doesn't even care that he might have destroyed the whole tournament for Portugal.

First, he accidentially touched Müller -though his hand had no business to be up there in the first place- then he gave him another slap. Don't think it that was accidential, what did he think he was slapping up there, his backside?

So? Where am I wrong? Personally I don't even find Müller that likeable, but this one is pretty simple. Pepe hits him in the face (probably fully intentional, which would be red card by itself) then Müller holds his face. Not sure if you are some kind of professional fighter, but if someone slaps you in the face it can hurt quite a bit, especially if you don't see it coming. So in this instance I don't understand why he is getting this much hate.

I don't like Pepe, he deserved what he got. He intentionally winds up opponents and generally seems to take a lot of pleasure in acting the cnut. One who dishes out plenty should be able to take it as well, Pepe seemed to have missed this bit. He could be easily wound up by others and I'm glad he had a red card here.

But it's beyond laughable if you think Pepe 'hit' Muller in the face and Muller's actions of going down like he was shot was justifiable at any level. Have a word with yourself.

I don't get it either. To be fair Pepes challenge itself didn't deserve a red but his headbutt certainly did. At least Müller stood up to him and got into his face instead of roling around on the flood like most players would do.

Every player goes down after that. It was a foul and you want to claim the free kick. Peeople go down in the box at the slightest contact to claim a penalty and thats not diving.

Pepe knew he was in trouble and tried to wind muller up to get a response.

Pepe's last tournament you suspect for Portugal, at 31 he will be 33 in France.

And he's their best defender, who will replace him that's as good playing in the CL?

I was saying regarding antics. Muller isn´t obviously a thug but he is a diver. Seen it plenty of times. And his reaction was clownish. I analyze things fairly. Pepe deserved to be sent off and Muller was a clown for his antics.
I just saw the incident again and you're right, Müller behaved like a total twat there. Didn't look like that when I saw it the first time. Still, Pepe was extremely silly there.

Whatever, your definition of play acting is significantly different to mine.

What exactly do you expect from him? It's perfectly normal for a person, especially for players, to go down when you're hit. In a twisted way it's even needed, because the ref won't give you the foul if the supposed victim does not signal pain. It then takes him about two (?!) seconds to sit up.
I'd like to see the players who would just act like nothing happened in this situation.

FFS, ask yourself once that if Pepe had gone down like a Thai hooker for being accidentally touched on the face by Muller and Muller got sent off, how will you be posting here? You'll be calling all sorts of names and sending death threats to Pepe

No? Because I'm more or less capable of rational thinking. Maybe you should try it too, because stretching your arm out behind is not a natural movement while running and neither is going for a second contact with Müller's face after the first one.

I saw nothing wrong with what Muller did.

He got a backhanded slap in the face - those hurt at that velocity. 99% of players will drop down in that situation to emphasise the foul, given you are pretty much taken out of the play situation by such a foul anyway.

Then Pepe goes and butts heads - I think it is to Muller's credit that he jumps up and gets in his face rather than die a Rivaldo-esque death from it. If he were playacting, that would surely have been the way to go.

I think he got hurt for a moment, Pepe loses his rags and Muller actually increases his chances of staying on by jumping to his feet rather than dramatizing the much lesser, but legally more severe, contact. If the ref was unsure of what he saw, he might have let Pepe get away with that given that Muller does quite the opposite of playacting on that.

I agree with you but it doesn´t matter now. People here in Portugal are extremely angry at the players and specially the manager Paulo Bento. We didn´t lose because of the ref. Our attitude was shameful.
