 Some Atletico fans' replies (very few, but still) to his tweet aren't very nice, they didn't take it well that he calls the day he signed for us as one of the happiest days of his life. Calling him a mercenary. Some Atleti fan also said: "another ungrateful pig". Well well ... Can't blame them as they keep losing players, but thanks anyway for DDG :)

Ripper post. Love the guy so much - I just absolutely love watching a player grow and mould. It's one of the finest aspects of the game when a young lad comes to a big club, faces some hardship and fights through it. It's part of what United is all about.
This epitomises the view of Manchester United, and many other clubs around the world when they sign youngsters. People forget these footballers are just humans, and as a species, we're constantly aiming higher and becoming better.

When I watch a youngster blossom, I get this 'buzz' in the pit of my stomach that actually makes me happy. That once upon a time, they were receiving abuse from opposition but you stood by them. The best example I can think of is Ronaldo. The man he is today, is completely different to that skinny lad who teared o'Shea apart. Back then, that Ronaldo was more on the eyes, than the finished product. He would always try and showcase his skills, despite making things harder for himself, by not passing. He would also dive, roll around, whinge, but I knew that this boy could become a world beater one day. At that point in my life, Ronaldinho was the best footballer on the planet, so I thought if Ronnie reached those heights, he would do well. Fast forward a few years, it's the summer of 2006. Ronaldo winks, the media get a whole saga out of it, torment Ronaldo. What better than to shut people up, than to win the league in style. Rooney-Saha-Ronaldo all playing well. The following year is history, 42 goals, another premiership title & champions league. He then buggers off to Madrid for a huge fee, but by this time people know what he is. He eventually becomes a machine for them scoring goals, week in, week out.

Now, we have young Adnan. I wish he reaches the same peaks of Ronaldo, but only one difference. It's at Manchester United, not elsewhere.

de Gea has rapidly become one of my favorite players - rarely have I enjoyed watching a 'keeper so much. I really hope that under van Gaal he will be more utilized as a sort of "ball playing" 'keeper if you'd like, instead of randomly hoofing it up as under the Moyes era.

Say Juventus, who are losing Buffon, ask for a De Gea - Vidal swap deal… Would you guys take it?

Only player I'd swap De Gea for is Ronaldo. And that's partly because he's a former United player. :D

Interesting.. I think De Gea is a gem and good goalkeepers are hard to find. Plus his age means he will (hopefully) be ours for a long time to come. But I think if we replaced
Hell no! That would be an awful deal for us in fairness.
You reckon De Gea is worth the same as Vidal cash wise?

Obviously its not a swap you can assess strictly in cash terms as a goalkeeper would always cost less than an outfield player. It's just that I think at this point in time we need someone like Vidal to take our team to the next level. Of course we would end up regretting it down the road if we started having keeper issues again. I personally wouldn't do it but was just interested to see what others thought

Have we ever seen a team win the title and had their keeper have a bad season.

They're worth as much to the team as a top striker, perhaps more.

Plus, he's one of my favourite players, I wouldn't swap him for Ronaldo.

that's a terrible deal for us. i would be royally pissed off.

even if we could get messi for de gea, i'd just think about it.

he's by far my favorite player at united, not even close.

"Terrible deal" is a little bit overboard. he is one of my favourite players at United but you would have to consider it.

There's a difference between a keeper having a bad season and a keeper not being quite as sensational as David has been. It seems likely to me that we would have had a better year last year with Vidal in our team and Lindegaard in goal. But as I said, I probably wouldn't take it either as I love Dave.

i agree it's overboard.

i would hate it that much though so to me it's terrible. for the team? not bad, but de gea gives us 10 years of world class goalkeeping, i'd take that over vidal any day.

*edit: not to mention that you're trading away the best spanish transfer agent in the world in dave, lest we forget thiago, mata, herrera, fabregas

Never, Dave is the last player I want to lose and there are not so many great keepers out there, so I can't agree that a midfielder would be more important. While a midfielder like Vidal is a muppet fantasy, Dave is already here and showed his class in a united dress, I wouldn't sell him for any money of the world, just give him his deserved big contract ;)

Haha last part is true. Also, great goalkeepers are perhaps harder to come by these days.

I wouldn't after seeing the shit served up by the likes of Howard, Barthez, Foster, Carroll and Kuszczak when they were in goal. It's tough finding a top keeper.

Watching Foster in goal for us was painful.

Yes. De Gea is only 23. He is a baby in goalkeeper terms. We could get another 10-15 years out of him. Meanwhile Vidal is 27 and as a midfielder is likely to be at his peak for the next 5 years and not much beyond. Considering we had so much trouble with goalkeepers in the past De Gea is literally the last player in our squad I would let go.

You also have to take into account there seems to be a lack of top class goalkeepers around at the minute. In my eyes De Gea, Courtois and Neuer are the only truly world class goalkeepers around at the minute. We are very lucky to have one of that trio and we would be stupid to get rid of him regardless of who we are offered in exchange. Good and all as Vidal is there are numerous world class CMs around and he wouldn't even be in my top three preferred signings in the position.

More! de Gea is already a world class keeper, and he could be that for us for the next 15 years (at least). Can't really put a price on that

Yeah I'd probably take it, we all love DDG but at the end of the day outfield players improve your team much more than keepers do.
Disagree - remember the problems we've had in the past finding a decent keeper? Lose a potential world class keeper and you'll lose points galore. Think how many points he saved us last year. Keeper's are consistently underrated. To answer the original question, no way would I lose De Gea - not for anyone.

De Gea is probably the only player in our current squad who I'd consider priceless. Not only because he's already an amazing keeper for his age, but because there's absolutely no available keepers that could replace him.

I really hope that the club value him as highly.

Vidal is my muppet dream signing but if that was the offer I'd stick with De Gea.

How many league titles did we win when we didn't have a decent keeper, our highest points tally ever in the PL was when we had Barthez as our goalkeeper. There isn't a great deal of difference between the best goalkeeper in the world and the 10th best over the course of a season. Having Vidal and Lindegaard in net would probably improve us more than just having De Gea in net.

It doesn't mater pal, thankfully Juve have been in the hunt for young itiallian GK, like Leali/Simone Scuffet. So we're in the clea. Barca were the only team I was worried about, now they're out of the picture it's happy days.

They'd be absolute nut jobs not to. You've got to love big Dave, he has the same level of respect for United as Evra does. He'll commit for another Five years at least, i'm sure of it. :)
