True. I guess I just don't care for Jones as a player that much. Yeah he's young but he's not my type of player. I like defenders with flair and good passing. Guys like Pique, Hummels, Silva, Luiz and Ramos would be amongst my favourite CBs.
Luiz? he's not even a defender, or at least even a decent one. He's awful.

Then why is he worth £50 million? I always laugh when people say this.
Because PSG are idiots? They spent £50m on a center back who lacks any positional awareness, and a center back so poor defensively that mourinho was reluctant on playing him in defence. Him being good at shooting and running with the ball means nothing for him as a defender.

Mate, you're wrong. When he's with Silva, he is one of the best defenders going. He needs a stable partner beside him. It was obvious to me that Luiz was always gonna go in the 40-50m range even before PSG bought him. He's one of those unique players that only come around once every 10 years.

Sorry but he is nowhere near one of the best defenders going, in any circumstance. As a center back he's shit, always has been. He's too rash, he lacks any positional awareness and it showed during the world cup. Whenever he's partnered with Silva it's not seen as much because Silva bails him out a decent amount, but against a good attack, it gets shown up for what it is. How can he be a good center back when he lacks all the things required to actually be a center back in the first place? His best qualities are running with the ball out of the back, and his long shots.... As in, nothing to do with his defensive ability, or lack of any should I say. 50m for him is easily the worst transfer ever. It's not even debatable. Even worse then 35m for Carroll ffs.

Not even close. Carroll was a very good player for Newcastle when Liverpool paid the £35m. People always seem to overlook that fact. With the crazy prices the English go for nowadays, £35m for one of the countries best strikers in the league at the time isn't all that much. We paid £30m for Shaw remember.

You're vastly underrating Luiz. Or you just don't watch him that much. Mourinho is weird, he took Mata off, Chelsea's best player for 2 years running. He sold the young Lukaku and wouldn't play him and brought in the likes of Eto'o and Drogba who are aging rapidly. He sold De Bruyne who was one of their most promising young players etc... Don't take his decisions as gospel.

Why are you not mentioning Luiz's good heading, slide tackles and interceptions? You hype his strong points up but you take no notice of his defensive qualities. Yes he might be a better passer and shooter than defender but he's the complete package. He can do it all and that's why he's worth £50m. Luiz is not a leader, he needs stability beside him. And besides that Germany game, he had a good World Cup IMO.

Carrol was far from one of the best strikers, he moved from midtable newcastle to midtable Liverpool and regressed. Luiz is a joke, there is no excuses for his crapness. Even though Jones is inconsistent and rash, I put that down to age, experience, and not his natural ability.

Fit their style ? I'd say he has been plain average.
I'd agree, but your point of, why didn't Mourinho want him if he's that great means nothing, as that's one man's plans, he didn't rate Mata either, or not enough to start him enough, would that also make him plain average? I agree Luiz is plain average, in fact not quite that, but you can't make that decision on the basis of Mourinho not liking him, therefore...

The problem with Phil is that he hasn't really improved much or matured much compared to when he just arrived here.
I think that is because he has been jerked around by having to fill in at both CM and RB - if he gets a proper run in our new 3 man defense I think we're going to see massive improvements.

I don't think like that man, each player has his own particular situation. Just because Mourinho got rid of one for a singular reason, doesn't mean I think he applies the same logic for all of them. Regardless of style, Luiz is just a calamity.

Expecting big things from Phil this year. LvG will help him fulfill his potential.

If he can stay injury free and cut out the silly challenges then we're going to see a top quality defender.

lol
In other word he's just average without a world class partner with him.
