Hammered in the CL semis two years in a row. Whatever about the fans I think the board will get rid of him in the summer.

I can't remember why I joined this war.
Well last year he had no excuse. This year he can at least say they were missing two of their most important attacking players. Also that doesn't explain why they conceded 3 goals just why they didn't score any.

Oh and taking Müller of for Götze always strikes he like a really bad idea.

But well maybe he keeps hoping of a Götze repeat from the WC final.

Still deciding
I don't rate him as highly as others. He was gifted to have the players he had at Barcelona who were all at their peak.

HELLO
The first 20-25 minutes were a huge gamble but I can't put blame on him for what happened beyond that, especially when you consider the injuries. He did well at half time to get back into the game.

I think people are overly critical of him in the CL, people expect him to get to the final every year when it's evident that it's extremely difficult to do it twice in a row.

Kneejerk thread. Take the best two players out of Barca and they would struggle.

Last season second leg he made a mistake not starting Martinez.

he made a mistake early in the game....fixed it

I don't think the team defended that badly against a terrific Barca attack and he was relying on Lewandowski doing something with that chance earlier

funnily enough Bayern had looked solid enough in the second half before the Messi show.....

not having Robben and one or two others has cost him as he was exactly the kind of player who could have nicked one tonight

I suppose for the Bayern hierarchy the Champions League is the main aim considering what Pep's predecessor achieved with that treble - think Pep has been unlucky with injuries but he will have another opportunity to win the CL

Pep has failed at Bayern as a manager.

Had no idea what the feck was he trying to do in the match. Went 343 at the start of the first half. When he realised Barca were ripping them apart, he quickly changed to a back four. Came out of the second with a 343 again and changed back to a back four after 15 minutes.

Over worked his men with a bold but crippling tactic that bordered on the genius/crazy scale and so very nearly could have paid off in the first half if Lewandowski scored.

As Messi and Barca rose to the occasion, Bayern regressed further into fatigue and fear of the inevitable. 1 became 2 in an instant and all fight to even resist it was gone let alone score themselves. 3 was the killer blow.

In 2 weeks a treble has become just the league title. A league title that will now feel like a consolation prize given the events that have unfolded.

This. Its still a brilliant team, but that Bayern team under Heynckes was something else.

This year it can be said that it's even stupid to not apply different tactics considering the injuries.

Nice kneejerk. He's had a successful year by any measure. Ran away with the league and made the CL semis, and probably went out to the eventual Champions.

Dismantled? Not really.

Take Robben and Ribery out of Heynckes team and they wouldn't win the champions league. You need your best players to win champions league.

To be fair, I didn't give them a chance before the game. Thought Barca would win comfortable. For the most part, I thought they were okay. Two sloppy moments cost them. That being said, Barca were the better team, Bayern never really looked that threatening.

Voted the best city in the world
Any team in the world will miss their 2 best attackers, who incidentally is perfectly equipped to cause this Barca defence trouble.

I actually thought Bayern did fairly well for 65 mins of this match - first 15 and final 10 aside, where they just capitulated. Or well, Messi tore them a new one.

It will go down as another failure, but the circumstances this time provide some form of defence. He should be given the summer to completely revamp the side and will have to win the UCL that year.

Ever since clap gate I've wanted this wanker to fail. The skinny tie makes me cringe.

This is what happens when you cheer on your opponent weeks before you face them. Looks good on Pep. Out thought and out matched and should be sacked for embarrassing a prestigious doctor.

What's bothering me the most is that we look destined to go out by a huge margin again. It just feels like the 2nd semi final in a row were we are getting outclassed in ways a truly great team (i.e. among the 4 or 5 best) just shouldn't.

And to you, where would that Heynckes team be without Robben and Ribery? You are not winning the champions league without your best players.

Tie isn't over although this is a worse result than Porto and against a much better team.

In fairness, a good chunk of his side tonight was missing. Robben and Ribery out is like Barca without Messi and Neymar. Alaba , Martinez and Badstuber are all starters also. I thought the did fine besides the last 15 and the first 15. In the last 15, the midfield was knackered. Lahm, Schweini and Alsono are all in their 30's. Good manager and a good game of football tonight. Should never take off Muller though, and I thought playing thiago quite wide tonight didn't work. He's probably their most creative player when Robben's out and he was nullified tonight.

FWIW - he's also been very unfortunate with injuries and while many will disagree with this guts & glory or death tactic, got to admire his cojones to go for it.

Bayern Munich are a walking infirmary. His best players have dropped one after the other. Victims of the way he works? Not exactly. There have been only six muscular injuries all season, less than half the average for elite teams, according to Uefa. It is not the training that has provoked this catastrophe, instead, misfortune has multiplied.

The majority of the injuries have been caused by clashes with opponents, bad challenges and tackles that have torn ligaments. It has been so bad that it is not just bodies that have been broken but records too. In every minute of the season, 25% of the squad has been unavailable, at least six players every day. Worse, Guardiola has been in charge for 677 days and not one of them has been injury-free.

They were there last season when the team were exposed by Madrid.
Like I said its still a great team, but I believe he has tinkered with that team too much and I don't believe he has improved it.

If he's not a great manager then who is? Mourinho failed in Europe the last two years, Ancelotti "inherits" squads like Guardiola and doesn't do amazing for what he has, Klopp's team had a massive meltdown, LvG is classed as a stubborn moron every time we draw/lose by 90% of the forum. Simeone does great for what he has but could he bring that culture to another club? Are there no great managers or do people just kneejerk way too much?

That Martinez and Schweinstiger midfield was ridiculous tho. The balance with those two coupled with Robben and Ribery either side would even beaten this Barca side.

And that with having Mandzukic/Gomes as striker, and much worse defense. They were so organized, compact, and direct ala Atletico last year, but with better players.

Now we saw Bayern dicking around with the ball near oppo's penalty box, trying to walk in that ball to the net.

After 75 minutes people would have been saying he was a genius, sticking to his principles. Going toe to toe with Barca etc. They were undone by Messi.
Bizarre tactics at the start, corrected (think it was planned).

Most important point for me. These 3man midfields like today - Schweinsteiger, Lahm and Alonso - lack variety in an almost comical fashion sometimes. Yet Pep probably wouldn't play Martinez there if he had been fit all season anyway.

Taking barcelona on from a technical standpoint is as ridiculous today as it was when he was coaching them. They didn't stand a chance the moment he decided to play open football.

How can you improve on a team that has won the treble?

His mistake last season second leg was not starting Martinez.

I just don't get Lahm as a midfielder. I understand that there have been injuries but it's something he's used even when he's had everyone fit.

He's just plain average in that position.

The luck always leaves when Müller goes off the pitch. The other players seem to believe in that, too. Thomas was not amused when he got subbed... (I guess he hates to sit outside to watch his team go down - has happened too often)

Unlucky with injures and ageing players. Honestly, Messi on this form is unstoppable, nothing Pep can do about it.

Nobody ever gave me an explanation on why Lahm is supposedly so awesome in midfield, either...
