The calendar is (more or less) in place. The final list of teams is (more or less) in place. Though the kickoff is weeks away, it's time for La Liga to get a new season thread.

Just to get things rolling this first post is basically about the schedule, but there's already a fair bit going on the transfer front. 5 Liga teams in the CL this year of course, assuming Valencia get through their play-off, which has affected some of the match scheduling.

The Liga1 schedule includes Eibar who finished 18th, but who survive because Elche have been relegated for failing to meet the repayment schedule on their debts - that may go back to court but the decision is unlikely to change.

La Liga opens on the weekend of the 22/23 August with
Athletic V Barcelona
Málaga V Sevilla
Rayo V Valencia
Levante V Celta
Espanyol V Getafe
Deportivo V R. Sociedad
Granada V Eibar
Betis V Villarreal
Sporting V R. Madrid
Atlético V Las Palmas

It ends on May 14/15 with what looks like a contenders Vs minnows schedule
Valencia V R. Sociedad
Deportivo V R. Madrid
Sporting V Villarreal
Betis V Getafe
Espanyol V Eibar
Athletic V Sevilla
Málaga V Las Palmas
Granada V Barcelona
Atlético V Celta
Rayo V Levante

In between times we get clasicos on 7/8 November (Bernabeu) and 2/3 April (Camp Nou). Madrid derbies on the 3/4 October and 27/28 February.

Sevilla and Atletico have made quality signings but might require some time for their new players to gel especially Sevilla who've made like 7 signings already, Monchi has outdone himself again. Atletico also it looks like Simeone wants to experiment with a new formation with Koke in the middle permanently. Valencia on the other hand have signed very talented youngsters who won't immediately get on the first team so they can just continue to build on the good work from last season. Can't wait for the new season to start.

Finally new thread!.Valencia investment is very good for la liga and Atletico maybe will change a bit the style.I am curious about Danilo Barbosa, Bakkali and Santi Mina,a very talented striker.I think that they paid too much for Rodrigo. Now the press is talking about Garay to replace Otamendi + Valdés.Atletico is thinking in Motta,Filipe Luis and Savic. Many new players to watch.I am also curious about Sevilla ,especially Inmobile and Konoplyanka

The polls have just closed in Barcelona's election for club president. Voting took place today at the Nou Camp and roughly half of Barca's full members have voted.

The candidates:
Bartomeu (who took over when Rosell resigned)
Laporta
Benedito
Freixa

One of the TV companies did an exit poll and they say that Bartomeu will win.
Bartomeu, 49,5%; Laporta, 36,%6; Benedito, 7,8% y Freixa 4,8%

 ,probably Laporta didn't expect that in the beginning.Bartomeu was intelligent taking a pic with L.Enrique signing a new contract hours before his resignation, besides I think that Laporta political positioning could be negative

Bartomeu is in lead with 25% votes counted. I guess last few months he did manage to change his image a bit, which helped.

I noticed that Barcelona have had their game away at Getafe moved to the 26th August because of the World Club Cup meaning they'll have played a run of 6 games in 20 days before the international break. That's starting with the UEFA Super Cup vs. Sevilla in Georgia on the 11th and finishing at home to Malaga on the 30th. It's looking pretty congested already and all of that's after playing five pre-season games that finish as late as the 5th.

Those involved in Copa are given extra rest, they won't play pre-season games.

Yeah I figured that might be the case, we've got Di Maria and Rojo joining the tour later on. Will Messi play the game against Sevilla then since that's technically the first game of the season? I presume Suarez will be travelling out to the US too since he was banned?

I'm surprised Bartomeu was elected. I thought he was unpopular with the Barca faithful and board members?

The timing proved to be perfect - Enrique's contract renewed on the back of another treble. Xavi's retirement handled with respect and dignity.

He also campaigned well. So the Neymar fraud/tax cases were portrayed as a minor administrative issue over whether the tax was owed in Spain or Brazil. The FIFA transfer ban was treated as a minor inconvenience following an undeserved punishment and they kept on recruiting, the treble proving that no damage was done. Plus, he managed to spin it so that both cases were in some way Madrid's fault and anti-Catalan persecution.

Given that the handling of young players and La Masia was expected to be a big issue in the election (and wasn't) it's kind of fitting that the Barca B team got relegated from Liga 2 to the 2B's last year. That's after 5 years in Liga 2 where they finished in the promotion places twice.

I guess Lucho is among the fittest managers at present. How many more you think are very fit?

 , This is the season of James, hopefully Cristiano will allow him some free kick. Madrid has signed Vallejo, a CB from Zaragoza, one of the best players of the under 19 team that won the Euro last week. He will stay this season on loan. The club has to decide as well what they will do with Asensio.

Holy shit. Bartomeu actually defeated Laporta? That is insane. Laporta is by far the best president of any club I have ever seen (although it is just an outside observation). He got a sleeping giant and turned them to the top club in the world.

Rayo Vallecano's shirt looks horrible. The one on the right isn't too bad though.

Very surprising. I doubt this would've happened under Laporta.
Laporta thought that the legend of Pep + Cruyff was enough to win.He shouldn't have mixed football with politics so clearly from the beginning.Maybe forgot that there are a lot of non catalan associates.

The Chinese sponsor also forced the club to sign Dudu. Paco Jemez not amused at all
He said that Dudu's signing had nothing to do with the sponsorship but im sure it played a part. Qbao are also paying them 25% of the cost to remodel their stadium.

Sky have reportedly pulled out of the bidding for La Liga rights. Set to go to BT now. Another loss to BT for Sky
