Could be a great match to get us up and running for the season. At home, which is favourable, but Tottenham are a big enough team for a victory to mean something and hopefully set the tone for our season.

Problem is I don't have too much faith in LvG picking the right team.

Team selection is crucial and crucially it'll probably be wrong. Going for a win though, would like to see a good confident defensive performance along with good attacking play and not this laborious possession build up when it ends up back at the keeper after every move.

Can't express how happy I am for the season to start again. Really looking forward to the new look team, especially the new signings.

Also pumped by how optimistic LVG seems from his comments in the media about him being happy about the progress of the team. The team must be adhering to his philosophy then!

Can't wait for Saturday! Premier League has been gone for too long and I'm sure this is going to be an exciting season.

I'm going to say we'll win 2-0. Memphis and Rooney to score.

0:1 Kane CAF:"Feck off, well done LvG with Blind as CB,he just cost a goal"
    1:1 Mata CAF:"Maaattaaaa yes,what a goal"
1:2 (i dont know) CAF:"Typical, first Blind now Jones,LvG should resign right after this game, not buying new CB even we are lined up with those 2 clowns, feck off!"
    FT.
RedCafe :"Alert alert,to many new threads and enraged posts, things getting out of control! Shut everything down, shut it!"

I want to see Rooney scoring in this one. It's important that he begins the season with a couple of goals. Will go a long way in boosting our (and my) confidence.

They're playing Madrid today and apparently don't get back till Thursday. Isn't that madness? Even tried to get the game pushed back 24hrs. We should be much fresher than them come Saturday.

Plenty of teams with a lot of friendlies these days, but van Gaal decided against them. Hopefully a good decision.

Bastian to come on in the second half.
2-1 to us. Rooney, Mata. Kane to score for them.

    Cant wait for this.

Don't understand how he can call the formation we played in pre season a 433. Memphis plays nowhere near midfield. Will be interesting to see the two CMs he picks.

I am hoping that LvG has learnt that you cannot afford a slow start like last season. Getting 3 points on the opening day will hopefully help us build some confidence which will be important for the UCL playoffs.

Close enough for a match day thread. I am giddy!

    Hopefully:

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Jones Shaw
    Carrick Schnederlin
    Januzaj Herrera Depay
    Rooney

    I expect it'll be:

    --------------------DDG----------------------
    ---Darmian---Smalling---Blind---Shaw---
    ----------Carrick--------Schneiderlin-------
    ---Mata---------Depay------------Young---
    ------------------Rooney---------------------

    The season's here finally

Think we'll win a tight encounter by a single goal. 2-1. I know blind is the LCB so hopefully it's Smalling and not Jones on the right. Don't think Jones + blind can deal with kane.

Young will probably be in the team and Memphis will be eased into the league. But other than that the team would be that I reckon

I think LvG will play Memphis for "pace" like he used to bring on Wilson.
From the other new signings Darmian will hopefully start over Valencia and Bastian will probably be on the bench due to lack of match fitness/rhythm.
Morgan is not new to the league so should be in the first XI
