Disappointed how it worked out, massive talent but like others said after the first month he didn't appear to want it

I can picture Zlatan cursing him out on the pitch. This isn't going to end well for him.

How so?

van Gaal made it pretty clear he wasn't the star man and just another part of the team.

The mentally weak suggestions are overstated. He doesn't want to be here, van Gaal doesn't want him here, and there's a team willing to bail him out of his "prison". Everything he's done in his career would suggest he is far from mentally weak.
Of course the manager is going to say something like that - he's hardly going to single him out/heap the pressure on him is he? But ultiamtely, you spend that much on a player, and there's that much fan-fare surrounding him, then obviously there is massive expectation surrounding him, and obviously the fans/club are going to expect huge things from him.

He doesn't want to be here, because he can't hack it here. Do you think if he had set the league alight and scored 20 goals last season he'd want to leave?

If I were a PSG fan, I'd think he could do better than that. Very Important? To help them through the quarter final barrier? Eh?

Compare to Scheweinsteiger - Q: you have achieved everything, what's your challenge? R: To win trophies.
I also love how Bastian said there's only one club he would have left Bayern for, and it wasn't just transfer speak. I think he genuinely meant it.

I'm not just referring to what van Gaal says, but what he does, too.

di Maria played in his "favoured" position for four games in the entire season, he spent a considerable amount of time on the bench, and was utilised in several different positions throughout the season. Hardly "star man" treatment.

As for the last part, he's never going to score 20 goals and I don't think he ever has. However, speaking in terms of stats, he's contribution per minute wasn't bad. This is a guy who's been a success in the best league in the world, in Europe and on the world stage, I'm sure he feels like he could have succeeded here, but he just doesn't want to.

Jesus. Are we still going at it?

He was benched because he was beyond shite. The fact that Van Gaal name checked Di Maria before we were even linked with him and the fact it took a red card to dinally drop him suggests Van Gaal rated him very highly.

I'm not sure if you're saying my post was childish or it was a result of the childishness already posted, but it's Human nature for the narrative to change as it has. Previously, he was a weaselly little fecker, but he was our weaselly little fecker. We focused on his positives and ignored his obvious weaselly flaws, now the roles are rightfully reversed with the forum unhappy with his weaselly little ways before/during/upon leaving the club.

He was deemed not good enough for us (so much so we were willing to lose our record signing, after a season, for a huge loss) so he can't then justifiably be used as an example of why another club is so much better than us when they sign him.

The weaselly little fecker.
Add to that the fact that he couldn't even get in our side for the last six months of the season.

Meh now it's over I'm not that bothered. He never became a player that I took to heart. I care more about Rafael leaving than I do about ADM.
The big thing I take from this incident is that I would rather we never dealt with Mendes again. He is a man I despise and would rather miss the next big player than deal with him.

Plus he was played as a winger/midfielder for most of the season. Wonder what "favorite position" the poster is talking about.

To be honest that has been the best part when he joined. Not sure how much his Performances will help us but I really believe the guy that we were his first and only choice. Beside that he could have easily staid in Munich and let his career slowly fade out.
According to all media sources AdM has been pushed out of the door by Real so that has been a completely different Story. On top of that there are only very few Clubs willing and able to pay that Kind of Money we paid.

Correct, someone of Di Maria's talent should have been able to get himself a starting role in our team ahead of a player like Young. Just look at the way others such as Herrera (who was initially dropped and had to adapt his game) and Mata (playing in a wide right role he probably doesn't necessarily favour) won van Gaal over and became key members of the side for the run in. Smalling too recovered from the red card at the Etihad and was clear first choice by the end of the season.

To be honest I think Barca would have been the only other Club for which he would have left Bayern. Of course I have no real clue about what is going on in his mind but I do not think that he would have joined Real, Chelsea, City, Paris etc.

[...]People are saying he's mentally weak, but watching his performances with Madrid and Argentina in previous seasons he never showed any signs of this, works his socks off, willing to play in numerous positions, determined and willing to try and make things happen all the time.[...]
I would be careful about confusing creativity and work rate on the pitch with constitution when you've hit a personal rough patch.

I know its a cliche to say it when a player leaves, but I honestly really am glad he has gone.

Plus the fact we haven't done a liverpool and done most of our money on the worthless cnut either.

Im delighted this shit saga is soon to be at an end and we can all just move on. Anyone else sick of hearing "how close" a deal has been over the past few weeks?

People take it as a personal insult when a player leaves. I don't get it, well I get it but I don't agree with it. Let him move on with his life, he obviously didn't enjoy it in Manchester. I hope he does well at PSG and I hope we are a better team without him. No player is bigger than United

Why is everyone getting so personal about it? in the grand scheme of things he has been honest and left because his heart's not in it, better then having a struggling player who's not there 100% for another year.

People leave their jobs for variety of reasons all the time, people are also entitled to change jobs/companies as they wish, if it's a family/personal reason he quit then i have no problem with that whatsoever.

Yes it's irritating in a football POV but why does it bother people personally?

People are irritated because we signed the most expensive player in the history of the PL and he blatantly couldn't wait to get the hell out of dodge. Seriously, is it really that hard to understand why people bear him some ill will?

Yeah, that's the long and short of it. But for some the game is devoid of emotion and is a kin to any business. Probably.

Because I feel cheated. It’s like he decided after a few months when things started getting messy that he doesn’t want to be here and it turned him into shit player, so that he can move to his beloved Paris. I don’t hold a grudge against our former players but I dislike Di Maria a lot right now.

I wish we meet PSG in Champions League and we teach him a lesson on a cold windy night at Old Trafford to show him what he’s missing.
