Well he is fast as hell and a very good dribbler... Think he's more Southampton level then anything though. Would be funny (sad) if the reason we pulled out of Pedro was to go for him. Would much rather give the youngsters a chance. At this stage, I'm more in the either give Pereira and Januzaj proper playing time, or sign a top class player like Muller/Reus/Bale or future star with pace like Memphis to go on the other side.
Well he has only just turned 23 and got 10 PL goals last season which was hist first in a big league, so he could well fit your future star criteria. I'm bemused as anyone at this sudden story and I don't like the fact he's Senegalese (thought he was Dutch) but who knows, he would certainly add some much need pace to our attack.

What's his technical ability like? All I know about him is he's fast as feck and has popped up with a few goals, but is he good with the ball at his feet, got an eye for a pass, etc?

There is a very good player in there somewhere, but blows hot and cold. Reminds me of Nani actually

He's at that Bolasie/Montero sort of level at the minute, so this shouldn't be happening. Like @Orc says, the type of player you hate to play against, but not necessarily one you want in your squad.

The exact type of signing United are known for...
Exactly what I thought when I read it. Without sounding like a cliche, van Gaal and United have traditionally been more about signing players with potential and making them better rather than the superstar ones.

There's another lad with roughly the same first name who scored more goals than Mane in the PL last season, and is a year younger...

I think he's a good player. He's young, has pace, scores goals and can play as a winger or striker. It wouldn't affect Januzaj or Pereira because they are playing as number 10's

Which side does primarily play on?
I always thought he played through the middle for saints, just off Pelle. But guess he must be comfortable on the right as well if we're really in for him.

Good player imo. Young, pacey, full of energy, lots of room for improvement.

I am not a man........I am Cantona
I rate him. Actually mentioned him to someone last week as a possible target given his pace and finishing. He's only 23 as well. He probably doesn't have a sexy enough name for some....

As mentioned previously though Southampton will want at least double what they paid so 20-25 million. Not so sure about that although it would be typical that we'd end up paying more for him than Pedro!

Too inconsistent really. On his day he's a real nightmare and will cause teams problems but too often goes missing.

As someone pointed out he's that Bolaise level really but being young he could develop in to a really really good player. Best to let him develop at Southampton for now.

Perfect player comparison. The type of player that will explode in a big game or two but their normal level isn't nearly as high.

These are players that probably need to play every week, too. Which he obviously wouldn't at United.

Yes, I hate the idea of having a player that will take a month out in the middle of the season to go and play international football, it can disrupt a team if the player is an important part of it.

There's another lad with roughly the same first name who scored more goals than Mane in the PL last season, and is a year younger...
And is also not a winger which Mane has mostly played as at Southampton.

Mane is better off the striker though, Id take Berahino, but if we want a dribbler, then Mane is the guy

Yeh I'm not a fan either, I remember a few years ago there was a newspaper backpage with all the mugshots of the players going to AFCON with the headline "are these the men who are going to hand the title to sir Alex" or somehting like that. A lot of our rivals key players went, Essien, Drogba, Song, Toure etc..

Not ready for the step up yet. Maybe some day he'll be good enough but as is he's too inconsistent.

No. We want better than this if we aren't getting Pedro. Also Southampton will not be wanting to sell yet another player this late in the transfer window. They are in the middle of trying to qualify for the Europa League.

Exactly, I mean in this case I doubt he'd be that vital to us, at least not right away, but it's a cloud that would be hanging over things should he develop into a big part of our attack.

Our recent record with signing players we're linked to out of the blue makes me really worried this will actually happen.

Doesn't he play Left wing/Central for them rather than on the right anyway?

He is 23, very very fast, good finishing instinct, PL experience.

We could do worse. I think I'm just desperate for a pacey winger though at this stage,

your wish was filled - he scored twice v brugge last night.

a low rent memph.

I don't believe theres anything in it but him playing just off the front man is what LVG wants from his #10 in this system. Mata would stay wide right.

Problem with this one is that we'd probably have to pay more for him
than we would for Pedro.

Give rival fans a laugh I suppose.
