The forgotten man. Liverpool fans were so happy when they 'beat' us to his signature. Dude is a flop so far. If he played for United you'd get weekly reports on his goal drought.

Let players time to adapt to a league and a team. He played 6 matches in a team that did not function very well - than was injured the next 3 matches - played well against Southhampton and assisted the first goal in the last match against Chelsea. He until now only played 335 minutes in the EPL - that is the equivalent of 3.5 matches. Far too early to judge.

Tbf Depay has struggled too and isn't getting talked about much either. Both are young and the fees are fairly standard these days, so I don't think expectations are too high.

Ridiculous to call players like Firmino, Depay, Darmian, etc flops after only a few months.

It's beyond me that some people refuse to see the difference between real life football and FIFA. The history of football is full of players who needed time to adapt to a new club and league. Just 3 examples from the Bundesliga:
Kevin de Bruyne has been rather mediocre for the first months when he joined Wolfburg in Feb 2014. He gained and maintained his superb form not earlier than after the World Cup.
Marco Reus during his first 2-3 months under Klopp wasn't really spectacular, too.
Ilkay Gündogan was so poor during his first months under Klopp that he didn't even make it into the squad.

Before I'd call Firmino a flop, I'd wait until Klopp has had a full pre-season training.

The timing is a bit weird as well considering how well he has played in the last two games as well.

Great thread, OP.

They have 3 players in Lallana,Coutinho and Firmino that play in the one position. Big problem.

Too early to call him a flop - and his performances have been improving recently.

Are people really calling Darmian a flop?
Rojo and Blind were called flops on here before they had even played a game for us.

This is a true thing that happened on RedCafe.

A couple of weeks ago I saw claims that he would walk into the first XIs of Barca, Real and Bayern :houllier:
He just needs one good game, maybe score a goal, and he'll be back to being world class. That's how this place works.

Darmian starts his MUFC career really well....signing of the summer!

Has been struggling since....he's a flop!

Let's give all these players some time to adjust, before calling them flops.

A player is now a flop after 10 odd games in a new league in a new country? Odd thread.

He's not that long after boarding a fairly unsteady ship in terms of who was supposed to be skippering it. It'll be this time next year before a proper judgement could be drawn up on him. I doubt he'll be branded a flop at that time either.

It's usual Caf. Opinions tend to be very exaggerated.

He is one of the best RB's right now. He has been criticized because he can't do the job thar other players in a team should do.

Aye. It's frustrating, but I guess it's very common among football (or sport! in general) supporters.

I'm guilty of knee-jerking every now and then as well. More then, than now, I might add ;). Though I'd usually give myself a bit more time to calm down, become less emotional and reasoned before I post something I don't really mean.

You serious? Theres constantly stories on Depay! How other players at the club don't like him, how Giggs have to tell him to change his lifestyle, how he's a flop. Just today theres a story about how Real Madrid are going to try save him from is Old Trafford nightmare.

Also Depay has 4 goals and 4 assists, he hasn't been that bad!

True. This is partly why I started this thread. The media and opposition fans are labeling Depay a flop, but nothing is said about Firmino at all. Imagine he was a United player

I think that has more to do with narrative. We signed Firmino for more money but it wasn't really clear what gap he was filling. It was more of an 'adding quality for the sake of needing more quality' signing.

Depay was instantly billed as a Ronaldo-lite who was going to add a new and clearly defined dimension to your team.

If this is him playing better than before, he must have been really really bad under Rodgers.

Like the rest of the team, now is the real time to judge Firmino. Things have been too disruptive since August for him to really show his true self. I expect him to begin to show some of his worth.

He didn't play much due to injury, but yeah he was poor under Rodgers.

Has definitely improved under Klopp so far.

Depay has been awful, apart from the 2 games he's scored in, is it? Not optimistic atm, either.

My infallible expert judgement says that Firmino is an absolute Markovic-esque cock knocker. No hope.

Darmian was really good until he wasn't and then got left out, he'll be back.
