I wouldn't expect you to agree with me :D
Actually what I thought was funnier is to put Ferguson in the issue, and the part of "no way this kind of man would have a place in any self-respecting team". It sounds very chivalrous and lavish  , especially when the information on what happened is so limited. I think Valbuena put a picture with Karim on Facebook or twitter, so that's a good sign if believes in his innocence.
About Benzema vs Suarez, for me both are very good, Suarez scores more and plays very well in space but Karim is much better technically.

France just know how to screw themselves..Young talented side playing the Euros at home, and now this will cause problems within the squad. Unfortunately, they will be no bus that they can crush this time.
Valbuena isn't that good, they will just drop him and continue playing Benzema who's a much better player.

It can be easily argued that Valbuena has always been better for the national team than Benzema (which matters the most as club form means feck all).

Is this huge in the French media? And have any statements been made yet by anyone who's not a lawyer or an agent but actually has something to say in French football?

It's starting to yes. As usual a lot of people are quick to make up their mind about it without knowing any real facts. No statements has made to really give us proper information.

Benzema blackmails valbuena. Valbuena gets dropped. Great statement.

I don't think that would fly for the nt.

I agree. It's unwise to make assumptions at this point of the story. All that speculation in the media is just malicious.

Benzema will have his chance to defend himself and a judge will decide. I am very much against "media trials" like the one we're witnessing happening in Spain. My impression of the sports media there is that it tends to be very unprofessional, highly dependant on the teams they support or not. The level of attention, speculation and infoxication in the media that we got yesterday over this issue was unnecessary, really. It was from what I gathered, in essence - Benzema went to France to speak to the judge, stayed overnight, he is back in Madrid now, and will have to be available to the judge when she deems it necessary. No contact with Valbuena meanwhile. That's it. There's ample evidence that the two of them are pretty close, plus it's safe to exclude any financial motive, so I'm inclined to believe Benzema is telling the truth and consider him innocent until proven guilty.

At any rate, he is now back in Madrid and training. Time will tell what happened. Should a judge find him guilty, then let justice be done.

Benzema's mistake was to talk about this to Valbuena directly (knowing that at some point the justice might get involved) and also the kinda friends he still have (the ones who are blackmailing Valbuena are friends with Benzema's friend). A lot of pbs come from people around them.

Benzema blackmails valbuena. Valbuena gets dropped. Great statement.

Hopefully Deschamps isn't stupid to have thoughts like this.

Didn't stop England with the Terry-Rio situation before Euro 2012.

Valbuena has been in the NT for a while now, and he'll have friends in the NT. Your suggestion leads to cliques forming within the dressing room. And that would make it worse as Valbuena is actually the victim here.
Cliques in the French NT dressing room? Well I never.

Europe 1 are reporting a conversation between Benzema and his friend where Benzema explains who he tried to get Valbuena to contact his friend who had the sextape. It's in French but the snippets of conversation reported don't paint a good picture for Benzema...

Benzema does usually come across as a right bellend.

Valbuena has always been neat and tidy for Les Bleus whenever I've seen him play.
Didn't stop England with the Terry-Rio situation before Euro 2012.
Better analogy would be Terry and Wayne Bridge in terms of who was aggrieved.

I don’t think Mathieu is taking us seriously, he thinks it’s a joke.

I said to him: ‘I’m going to fix this for you.’ I gave him my word that there is not another copy [of the tape]. I said to him: ‘If you want the video destroyed, come to Lyon, see him directly.’

He asked me: ‘Can you see my tattoos?’ I responded: ‘You can see everything. I saw it a week ago, before coming [to the France squad].’

He panicked a bit. I said to him: ‘Do what you want, if you don’t want to pay, carry on with your life, but I have warned you.’

I then said to him that’s all I could do, that now my friend is in charge, who is the one that knows the person who has the video, that I don’t know him.

I said: ‘If you want to fix this, I can help you. I will give you their numbers and you can meet with them [and sort things out].
Benzema is fecked, especially if this conversation is with the blackmailer himself.
He's using his friendship as a way to gentley persuade him to pay up, like he's doing him a favour.
It's unreal

For his sake, I hope it's not true. But French police have a history of spilling evidence to the press.

It's apparently not the blackmailer himself but a childhood friend of Benz who knew the blackmailer. Still, Benz could be in trouble.

However, at no point in the conversation is any amount or counterparty mentioned, which could be a defence for Benz.

How would they have a transcript of the call? Is there any mention of source?

It's not with the blackmailer directly but with the guy who knows the blackmailer. Anyway, Benzema is even more fecking stupid than I thought, I have no doubt he'll be cleared in the end because nothing will probably directly incriminate him (and he's got very good lawyers).

This whole episode kind of puts Memphis' 'bad behaviour' into context, no? I mean sure he dresses like an arse and hangs around with abusive pop singers girlfriends but at least he isn't a blackmailing gangster.

Is Valbuena getting filmed being bummed or summat? Anyway, Benzema obviously isn't the brightest crayon in the box.

Could be. Could also be him with another woman, besides his wife/girlfriend. Or it could be that he doesn't want his and his girlfriend's/wife's junk all over the internet

Only bellends consider dressing badly 'bad behaviour'

Don't think anything will come off this. That said, France has good options up front so maybe if he's really guilty, there won't be as much pressure to exonerate him.
