So my Barnsley mate has been watching him all season and is convinced he has what it takes to play in the PL, I value his opinion and he generally always manages to separate duds from genuine quality. He has bang on the money with Stones and has said that a few hype cases (Noble Lazerus, Digby etc) are just that. Maybe a run out in the cup before a loan ?

There are rules that you can't be loaned out when you had played for 2 different teams in the same season (U21s etc doesn't count) so might be not.

I don't remember it clearly.That was true on FM though and they usually simulate well when it comes to rules.

About the future PL player part he's technically good enough the main issue IMO is his mental age is few years below his actual age according to his coaches so might take him times to get there.

Really? You mean off the pitch? Interesting because I always thought he was one of the most intelligent players I have seen at u18-u21 level. He reads the game brilliantly and made countless interceptions every match. One of the biggest reasons I thought he might get fast tracked to the first team by now.

Just goes to show how little we can judge about these youth players only by watching academy/u21 football.

I think a Championship loan for the rest of the season would be the best for him right now. I don't think he's ready for the Premier League yet and it would be much better for his development if he was playing week in week out in the Championship rather then just getting some sub appearances for a PL club.

Barnsley boss Lee Johnson is bitterly disappointed about the departure of loan star Ben Pearson.

The 20-year-old’s second spell at Oakwell came to an end after Saturday’s vital victory over Millwall, and he has returned to Manchester United amid reported interest from Championship clubs.

And although the Reds are keen to keep hold of the midfield maestro, it is as yet unclear where he will spend the second half of the season.

“I love Ben to bits... I think he’s a fantastic talent,” Johnson said.

“All I can do is thank him for the effort he’s put in.

“One day hopefully when he’s writing his book after a great career he’ll mention us all.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed our part in trying to develop him not only technically as a player but also mentally. He’s maturing all the time.

“If you look at the last two performances they’ve been really mature and stronger physically.

“If you’d have dropped him into a game like that a year ago he might have struggled but now he’s come through it.

“Technically he’s fantastic, his range of passing has improved and he’s a great kid.”

Pearson has played his part in the team’s recent upturn in form alongside skipper Conor Hourihane in central midfield.

Their partnership has been a key component in the Reds recording three wins from their last four to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

Hourihane added: “Ben’s been really good, he’s got a lot of energy in the middle of the park.

“He’s a great lad and if he doesn’t come back he’ll be one that we’ll miss.

“I’m not sure what the situation is, I know the club will want to extend his loan but hopefully he stays because he’s an important player for us.

“He’s a good player and he’s got a good career ahead of him."

Surely we have something lined up for him in the championship to have recalled him ?

On the ball he's quite a LVG type player btw.

Not sure I quite agree with that. True, he tends to be conservative-ish in possession as a consequence of his position, despite having more eye-catching passes in his locker. But he doesn't look especially pliable, tactically, which seems to be LVG's number one priority with youngsters. I've only ever seen Pearson play his game one way, regardless of the team or the opponent. Obviously we can only know a little bit about these youngsters, but he doesn't seem like someone who'd adapt well to awkward instructions or unfamiliar ways of playing.

Which is not a criticism, by the way. LVG's overwhelming preference for moulding player to system rather than vice versa is a weakness not a strength, and not every player can be a Daley Blind.

From what I have seen of him, I really think he could have had a shot here but I think it has just been a case of bad timing. With the current players in that role, it's so tough to even be considered. Would be great to keep a hold of him though as things could very well change in the summer.

I think Sean Goss is slightly higher on the pecking order for van Gaal. This I say simply because he was taken on the US Tour Pre-Season.

He is a cracking player and one I'd love to see do well at United. The main problem is how and when does he get chances with the midfielders ahead of him? I just can't see it happening at this point unfortunately.

The point about LVG's preference for moulding players is a good one. I understand how the Dutch have this history with total football and whether this is one of the reasons, I don't know. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I like to see players that are exceptionally good in their chosen position played in those positions. Yeah, if a striker has the ability to drift to the wings or a defender has the aptitude to step up and score goals, fantastic, that's a bonus but get the best playing in each position. Adaptable always suggests "jack of all trades etc" to me.

Not saying Ben's the best just yet but the point stands....(I think...)

Would be good to see a couple of talented United lads playing together. Should help them settle in a bit easier. Also, without being disrespectful to PNE, I see this almost developing along the lines of an informal feeder club arrangement to see how a bunch of our lads do together against better quality opposition. (I'm sure that wouldn't be how PNE see it mind you...)

No surprise.This club is terrible at selling player.Thought sell him for less than normal compensation fee for an U18s player is a bit ridiculous.

Would be a nice move for him.Seems they need a CDM as well so might fit it right away.

Exactly. But to me, it's the fact that hasn't even been given a chance in the first team. Not even a 2 minute cameo in a Carling Cup or anything.

In fairness to Van Gaal, which is extremely hard to give these days, I think he's an exceptional judge of young talent. If the club think it's right to move him on, then I'd support that viewpoint. I can't think of single youth player we've let go that has confounded expectations. Someone tell me I'm wrong. Personally I haven't seen enough of Pearson to judge his ability to adapt to the top echelons of the game.

In regards to the fee, I would suggest that it is heavily performance/incentive based and likely includes a sell-on clause.

I wouldn't complain much about Pearson but generally LVG's far from exceptional at the moment.Tyler Blackett is a perfect example.

Tyler Blackett was more of a case of right place at the right time.. We didn't have any other left footed CB's at the time

Yeah, can't find a spot for Pearson but let's keep Fellaini and play him everywhere, #10, 9, 8, 6 anywhere just so we can limit the chances of the young players we have at the club, Goss and Pereira too suffer from the same fate, LVG the stubborn idiot made his mind up about him and even though the Lads matured he won't change his view on him. But its okay we've got great granddad Carrick and granddad Schwienstiger who needs a future eh

Very disappointed with this. He always impressed me when playing for our academy and under-21s and he won the young player of the year award one season. He had a successful loan spell last year and we didn't even give him a chance in pre-season and despite continuing to do well at Barnsley this year he's now being flogged for what we pay Rooney each week.

Strange that people seem to always believe that United push players out even though that doesn't seem to be the actual case at all. The club especially in case of young players from the academy allows players to leave if they want to leave and doesn't believe in arguing over meagre transfer amounts.
