Lucifer, bored from his sulking life in hell comes to live in Los Angeles only to help humanity with its miseries through his experience and telepathic abilities to bring people's deepest desires and thoughts out of them. While meeting with a girl in his nightclub (called Lux), a shootout involving him and the girl leads him to become a LAPD consultant who tries to punish people for their crimes through law and justice.

The description sound cringe worthy and it's from Fox.But i feel they have got it right with this one.

The series focuses on Lucifer Morningstar, "who is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell and resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the beauty of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals"

Blimey. Can a TV show jump the shark in its first episode?

I bet the creators felt proud of that one. Might as well have called him Evil McBadguy

Its procedural, but im enjoying it. 3 episodes gone, the guy who plays Lucifer has a good charismatic charm about him which carries the show right now.

My fake movie premise about a kung-fu budgie who lives in a pyramid was more believable than this.

It's decent, but I can see the charm wear off really quickly, unless they bring in some divine elements. We have enough Crime procedural's as it is.

It looks wank. I'll wait to see how the chips fall review-wise, but I cannot be bothered with another series that has a short procedural story each episode a la Elementary.

They need to move away from the case of the week stuff (it kinda was on the backburner). I think Lucifer himself is the big draw, and his humanisation (although I really hope they dont go that route and then he has a relationship with Chloe). Chloes resistance to him is one of the big things about the show.

But I seriously cant see where else they can go with this

Like how Hannibal improved once it stopped the monster of the week format and focused more on relationships and the story arc?

I dont watch Hannibal so not sure what youre saying.
Sorry, it was a statement not a question - mistake on my part there.
I would love that for Lucifer as well. If it can even come close to the level of Hannibal it would be crazy.
I'm yet to watch Lucifer though I have *ahem* acquired each episode for later viewing. I want to rewatch Hannibal now though

From the trailer its kinda obvious this show won't have the writing to be anything more than your typically average drama.

Lucifer character seems to becoming more and more camp .Not really feeling this . The stand alone episode formula was not a good idea and looks like the familar detective series we have seen so many times before, but this time starring the devil.

I thought I'd give this a go cause the concept of humanizing lucifer is pretty interesting, but as expected it was dire tosh.

I mean, it's like absolutely no effort was put into lucifer. Right I get he is good looking and charismatic, but the way every girl effortlessly falls for him is just lazy writing. I could understand it if he was witty or wise, but he's just a kinda camp dude he pretty much goes around telling girls they like him and they just kinda end up... liking him. It's just terrible.

He doesn't come across as particularly insightful or clever. I mean even the way people "reveal their desires" is lazy. Rather than putting some thought into making lucifer manipulative or insightful he just has "the power" to look at people and have them say what they're thinking.

Complete load of crap. Turned it off after 30mins.

He needs to do something else with his eyes, he always looks like a maniac.

They also should have put more of a longer story line into this. Give him some time to figure out exactly why he really needed a break frm hell and build into his relationship with the cop, his psychiatrist etc

Editing my own posts.
So it's come to this. Online streaming has scared Network TV so much that it's resorted to stealing ideas from 30 Rock parodies..

It's complete drek. Desperate, faux-self aware drek at that. However the one episode I saw did contain the line "Wait in the car, Lucifer" ..which, I can't deny, was all kinds of incredible. Anyone who can write that with a straight face is clearly a subversive evil genius.

Seriously, why the feck does evil characters like that always end up being British  ?
The pronunciation makes them sound clever. Evil people are usually clever. They don't say things like "I don't got."

In real life, that's a myth (though it's useful for dramatic/literary purposes, of course). For example, modern criticism of the Dracula story often centres on the political aspect - he's viewed as a degenerate, decadent example of a ruling class which by rights should belong way in the past - and this is surely key: as opposed to real-life criminals (who are often underachievers), our dramatic villains are frequently people in authority. The 'clever criminal' is perhaps a critique of society.

Ffs Steve stop spouting nonsense and go back to writing about a kung-fu budgie in a pyramid.

This recent episode, finally. Looks like they may be moving away from just the standard "procedure of the week" type stuff and getting more into Lucifer, his motives etc. Just wish they would expand more on why Chloe is immune to him (or him trying to find out). Glad they are using DB Woodside more as well.

Having something more long term helps (rather than the same, Chloe gets a case, Lucifer helps by asking suspects what they desire, they resolve it and then he goes back to the club to play his piano)

Lucifer now at last seems to have a purpose. Hopefully it will give it a much needed storyline.

Dunno how many of you still watch this. I still do. The crime procedural part is boring, but I like the longer story arcs, although it is very very predictable.
