Yeah he just doesn't have the voice for commentary, it's so squeaky.

There's another MUTV commentator that's miles better yet he never gets the big games.

Always thought he was appalling. Simply can't stand his voice, he sounds like someone pretending to be a commentator, how he's lasted so long I don't know.

Nothing worse than an MUTV montage having his commentary

Don't like him, but I don't hate him, either. Could be worse.

MUTV was better when Steve Bower was there

They should hire Danny Higginbotham. He's good.
I think Danny used to commentate on youth games but now he is on Sky and is doing very well, he is actually in my opinion just as good as Gary Neville, talks about the game very well.

On Stewart, even yesterdays winner he just doesn't sound excited. Such a boring voice for commentary.

Gardner brings good balance to Paddy Crerand's ramblings. Paddy's full of bullshit but he does it with good intentions tbf. The insane bias does get draining after a while.

Absolutely loathe his commentary. Dull, grating, predictable and couldn't get properly excited for a goal to save his own nan. How they've stuck with him for so many years is puzzling.

Doesn't have the voice for it. Nothing sounds genuine or emotional.

He was the main reason i cancelled my subscription. Lacks conviction with what he says and just sounds fake when United score but at least he accepts decisions that go against us unlike Paddy who thinks every united player is world class and can do no wrong.

He is a god presenter but bad commentator.

Steve Bower left after 6 years and is now on Match of the Day yet Stewart has been on MUTV 9 years now. Tells you all you need to know, nobody else has taken him on yet.

Maybe he enjoys being with Paddy too much.

Indeed he is. He also writes columns for the Independent and I always enjoy reading them. He has occasionally appeared on the BBC Red Wednesday Podcast as well.

He's one of the better pundits out there. Wouldn't mind hearing more of him.

It's definitely his delivery, the way he's sort of shouting quitely when something Exciting happens, it's just quite strange.

People used to complain about him in the u21 matches because he talked too much but personally I loved it. He was such a chatterbox and always had something to say and I thought gave good insight to what it is like being a professional footballer.

Paddy Crerand is annoying as feck and Lou Macari is pretty shit too.

They used to have Steve Bower who who was much better but he left for either Setanta/ESPN and is on the BBC now. Bower wasn't actually a United fan though so it's understandable he left.

Not the biggest fan of Gardner but he's probably not the worst i've heard either. At least MUTV don't have to worry about him being poached or leaving.

Gardner isn't a United fan either, he supports one of the Bristol clubs. Can we not find a United fan who is a commentator as well. I think Steve is yet another Tranmere fan.

I like him and like what he has to say, but objectively speaking he does not have the voice for commentary.

I've also wondered how he got the job for so long, and I agree that the guy who does the U-21s is much superior in every department.

But as I say, I like Stewart Gardner, and he works well with Paddy.

I don't really understand why the change hasn't been made to be honest

Just give Gardner and Paddy their own show on the channel similar to Fletch and Sav, and then get two new commentators. Higgingbottom did it for a little while didn't he? On the tour? He was very good

Never said he was to be fair, i meant MUTV don't have to worry about him leaving because he isn't actually that good.

Yeah Steve was a tranmere fan.

Theres bound to be an ex player who would make a decent commentator you would think.

As long as it's not Paddy. He needs slapping down a few times now as co-commetator. I like Stewart on the Paddy Show.

It always sounds to me like he's commentating on the replay of a game and already knows what's going to happen, hence why he comes across as a bit wooden.

I've not heard him, but isn't having a decent voice pretty high up on the list of things a commentator should have?

Once Evra retires we should approach him to do commentary. I reckon the Paddy & Paddy show would be quite interesting.

When i used to speak to Steve Bower he was a Liverpool fan, probably said he was a Tranmere fan to be diplomatic. Stewart supports Bristol Rovers, doesn't have much to cheer about at the moment !!

Funny how all football presenters/commentators claim they support lower league clubs :smirk:
