Our best outfield player of the 2015/16 season, without a shadow of a doubt; and one of the bright spots of the previous manager's tenure. Equaled Wayne Rooney and Brian Kidd's record for most goals scored in a season by a teenager at Manchester United, despite playing out wide for a significant portion of the season:
Kidd scored 17 goals during his debut campaign in 1967/68, when he broke into Sir Matt Busby's first team as a raw 18-year-old. He famously turned 19 on the day he netted in the European Cup final win over Benfica at Wembley.

Rooney also netted 17 times in his first season, 2004/05, starting with three goals on his debut against Fenerbahce at just 18 years and 335 days - a feat that made him the youngest player to register a Champions League hat-trick. Like Kidd, he scored on his 19th birthday, as Arsenal were defeated 2-0.

Didn't have the best European Championship for France, despite the home team making the final - but what can we expect of him in 2016/17?

I expect another very successful season. His role shouldn't be too different from last season, though one thing I believe Mourinho will hope to add to his game is the inside runs. Thierry Henry touched upon it once or twice, and I'm not sure whether it was just Martial or the tactics from van Gaal to have him retain width constantly, but he'd very rarely move inward to make runs. He should work excellently with Ibrahimovic, and with the lung bursting runs Mkhitaryan should make on the right, I expect his assist tally to hit double figures as well as his goals.

I think he's a little like Cristiano Ronaldo in that regard, in that he's more prolific from wide than upfront. Difficult to say how much was due to the tactical system we played and how much was down to him not being accustomed to that role yet.

Anyway I'd like to see him improve his game off the ball, making his quickness available for through-passes and overlaps more regularly rather than just one-twos. Also his passing and finishing from non clear-cut situations.

The reason why he must play wide is simple. A player of his talent shouldn't he getting a mediocre 20 touches per game. When your the most talented player in he team you need to see more of the ball.
It's also nothing to do with the team. Suarez averaged less than 30 touches per game last season.
He played up front for a very short period last year. Middle of September to End of October. Southampton till we played Arsenal when Memphis was permanently dropped.
As for now and the foreseeable future, he's a wide forward. Like Sanchez.

Can't wait to watch him and Shaw attacking the left flank. Hopefully he score more than 20 goals this season which would be brilliant from wide position.

Extremely excited about his upcoming second season after his brilliant debut one. Sure, he wasn't at his best at the Euros but I reckon most has to do with playing that many intense PL-games at such a young age.

It's like a still haven't 100% realised how good this kid can become. Absolutely brilliant signing regardless of the fee we paid. The way he simply "turned up" and started producing quality performances and important goals were just unbelievable.

If he can avoid fitness issues or, God forbid, a Shaw-type injury, I predict his next season will be absolutely massive. Playing alongside a technical, strong and "playmaking" CF in Zlatan suits him to a tee.

My current favourite United player.

When Henry made the comment, it was true. But Martial ended up improving a lot on that regard and you could see the evidence given how many tap in style goals he scored.

He definitely improved but I still don't think he's entirely there, there are too many moments currently where he's still very stationary and reacting afterwards. He needs to continue improving and anticipate more.

I agree on being too static part. In games when he was in the centre he was waiting and not anticipating. Unlike Chica and the great Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudddddd.

This isn't really the right place for this but United are really pushing for him to be on the cover of the next Fifa game, daily spamming all their social media channels for people to vote for him

I have voted twice.
He's been tweeting about it and posting on Instagram. It seems important to him.

I reckon if he avoids injury he won't be far off 20 in the league from out wide.

He can make a huge impact next season. If things go as planned, I'm confident he can reach United Ronaldo like numbers. And with publicity and promotion like being on the cover and playing in PL he can be a top 5 player on 2017 ballon d'or nomination. That's huge for United who is trying everything to rise to the top again.

I think his contributions will jump up quite a bit. Zlatan is a good finisher and playmaker so martial could get more goals and assists same with mikhy. I reckon 20 goals 15 assists all comps.

yeah just saw that.

I'm pretty sure he'll get that cover since he's a Man United player and given the sheer size of our fandom compared to the other candidates(Hazard should have been forgotten by now after his horrible season, Reus is fantastic and him or Martial should ideally take the cover but the BVB support isn't as big as ours and as for james he's done pretty much nothing at Real).

When are the results announced anyways?

I can't remember why I joined this war.
I hope he will profit from the improved squad a lot. I guess the most notable difference for him will be the the opponents can't afford to mark him with two or three players because they know he is the only danger to their goal.

I died a little when Pardiola said he only needed to mark Martial last season. And it worked. A drab 0-0.

He'll have a lot of positive influences around the club as well, from Jose to Carrick, Zlatan and Schweinsteiger.

He'll get a lot more space now with Shaw back and Zlatan in the middle. Can't wait.

Not sure if he'll tally up the same goal count as last season, due to Zlatan being the focal point of the side. One things for sure, we will be more direct and attack-minded under Jose though and Shaw supplying a greater attacking threat at left back should aid Martial.

Shaw was a huge miss out wide for the team. If he hadn't got injured I reckon Martial would have had 20+ goals and we'd be in the CL this season.

True, as @DWelbz19 mentioned, Shaw returning could see Martial making more diagonal, inverted runs into the books rather than maintaining his position out wide at all times ala Henry in his early Arsenal days.

That just means more goals for Ibra to be honest. Unless martial really improves his positioing int he box and provides two options for shaw to pass too.

I am predicting a big season from him. He is going to get an insane amount of assists being high up and isolated on the fullback. Zlatan and Rooney crashing the box for the easy square ball or ghosting for a dummy and shot. Goals won't just be on the menu, I expect him to give it a red hot go at matching goals for assists this season.

More goals for Ibra but with someone flying down the outside of him it gives martial more scope to dribble into the area and get some shots away, rather than hugging the touchline.

I was going to say the same kind of thing. At times he was doubled up on last season because everybody knew he was the danger man, but with Zlatan, Mkhitaryan, maybe Pogba, plus Shaw bombing down the left, teams won't be able to do that to him. I think he'll have another very good season

So true I was the same but this year we have a few to chip in and produce special moments if we are not firing! Hope we get Pogba as well.
