Luiz must have been a panic buy, otherwise they wouldn't have pursued Koulibaly so heavily all summer. I wonder what's going on with their transfer dealings as Chelsea used to be amazing at just getting deals done, though over the last two seasons they have struggled to land their main targets.

And now JM really left Chelsea in a state. How can a team that won the Championship just the year prior looks so poor now and have so many list-cloggers?

Cahill, Terry, Ivanovic are all well over the hill and need replacing.

Their best players in Hazard, Costa and Courtois are all making noises about leaving. Fabregas too, but you can hardly call him one of their best players at the moment. Oscar has been turned into the best tacking #10 in the business.

They need to revamp things pretty heavily IMO and Conte needs to find a system that gets the best out of Hazard, Costa, Fabregas and Kante.

At least Luiz played with some passion, though he really needs a prime-Terry next to him or someone equally as commanding to control Luiz, as he was all over the place.

Even Souness says straight red. And he hates us. He said Atkinson bottled it big time.

Thank God he's back. What a player. Our build-up is 100x better with him in the side.

What a cretin.

I still can't believe he wasn't sent off. He knew straight away after making that challenge that he was off. Atkinson bottled it, like he usually tends to do. He was saved by a combination of incompetence and Gary Cahill interfering.

Still fuming about that decision. Not saying it would've made much of a difference to the overall outcome, but it becomes a completely different game altogether.

Luiz is shite, can't believe the chavs shelled out cash money for him, AGAIN!
He should have had a red yesterday but then Atkinson has always been a shite ref.

Had a very good game yesterday and is the libero-type player Chelsea needs in that back three. That said, he should have been sent off.

big game player.

It was a nasty tackle, I was wincing watching it. He's been very good though apart from that incident.

He bullied us yesterday unfortunately, i wish our players had been as up for it as he was. That horror tackle on Fellaini should have provoked a reaction from some of our players but they were just going through the motions. I hate him but at least he's got a bit of character about him.

Fair play to him, in the 4 or so Chelsea matches I've seen this season, he's been a Top 2-3 player for them

Best thing about Luiz is he enables us to get away with a midfield two of Kante/Matic with his unique ability to build from the back. Through the lines, diagonals, long balls --- he's got the lot.

Is overly criticised, when he's bad he can be atrocious but he's been playing well.

Fair's fair, the guy has been very good since returning. Should have walked yesterday but he deserves credit for how he has performed overall since coming back.

His return coincided with Chelsea shipping a load of goals. Conte's found a way to compensate by playing three at the back but he'll find a way to feck things up somehow. Case in point being what would have happened if Atkinson had done his job on Sunday.
I agree with this also, while I think Luiz is talented and doing well, I really do think he contributes to a lack of organisation at the back and needs to be compensated for in that sense.

I don't think that's really true to be honest. I think he's organized enough, but just (as we well know) prone to those lapses where he randomly seems to forget who he is and what he's doing on a football pitch..

How he got away with that attack baffles me but he and Cahill had nothing to do all game.. He shits his pants when the heat is on sadly we arent even lukewarm..

Not really. 5 conceded in 6 since he returned (including a spanking away to Arsenal but that was not on Luiz). 6 in 5 conceded before Luiz returned in far easier fixtures.

Chelsea 4 - 0 Man United
Chelsea 3 -0 Leicester
Hull 0 - 3 Chelsea
Arsenal 3- 0 Chelsea
Chelsea 1 - 2 Liverpool
No Luiz
Swansea 2 - 2 Chelsea
Chelsea 3 - 0 Burnley
Chelsea 3 - 2 Bristol Rovers
Watford 1 - 2 Chelsea
Chelsea 2 - 1 West Ham

To be fair I could be overly influenced by the couple of infamous incidents, as I can't think of too many positional mistakes or headless moments in recent times. How do you feel about a back three of Azpilicueta, Luiz and Cahill? (Or will Zouma step in?).

One of my favourite players to watch to be honest. The English media can't stand him for whatever reason. I find it ridiculous how they constantly get on his back and underrate him. He is a very good player. One of the best CBs in the league. Would have had him at United for sure.

I have a huge amount of time for Zouma, but I hope we ease him back in gently. I was really worried that with the defensive issues we were having he'd get rushed back and end up never fully recovering. Idea for me would be Azpi/Luiz/Zouma with JT stepping in when we need him. Despite the last few games I'm still not feeling the Cahill love this season.

Zouma only lasted 45 minutes today in an under 23 game and looked well off the pace. He's a few weeks away from the first team I would think.

He's been great last few games after that shocker against Arsenal. Certainly deserves the praise he's been receiving.

He also seems to be playing more conservative these days.

A few of his highlights so far. He's currently bossing that Libero position. Just an incredible passer of the ball & he's been very solid defensively so far. The mistakes will obviously happen & I'm sure his detractors are waiting to pounce on it but he's still irreplaceable in our system.

Most complete CB in the league and easily the best with the ball at his feet.

And we all scoffed at the transfer fee, totally transformed Chelsea with his amazing playmaker ability from the back.

It a cumulative improvement from the whole defence since changing to a back 3.
He looked very ordinary in a 4.
In a 3 with added protection from the wing backs he has more space and time.
So rather one player transforming the team, its more like a collective

Probably my favourite Chelsea player ever. Hasn't even been 100% ever since Aguero's thuggish tackle but continues to perform every week.

Thought he was excellent tonight. Chelsea's best player alongside Kante who was everywhere.

Best defender in the league this season by some distance too.

Though most of the credit goes to Conte for hiding his flaws and enabling his strengths.

I've been destroyed many times for sticking up for Luiz. He's playing for a manager that understands him and he's having an amazing season. Would have loved him at United.
