Can't stand this last few hours before kick off, don't know what to do with myself.
Looking for some interesting thread to read, and none of our rivals lost so can't even browse meltdown thread :(

Anyways, I will be very surprised if Carrick starts this one, as much as I'd love him to, I think Herrera will come in for him. Mourinho himself said he needs to managed the player well.

About mkhi, I think he will be starting again, Mourinho mentioned its time for him to step up and replicate what he did in Europa in the league, so my think is why say that and then go on to not give him a start. Lingard to come on as a sub for him after 70 mins or so.

Not so sure as others regarding who will start between Shaw and Blind on the left back, but my guess would be Shaw.

Rooney based on his last 2 games has been playing better and as is custom with him, it's best to leave him in when he is starting to grow a tiny purple patch, but have no problem hauling him off the moment he is back to his utter dross form.

Regarding Rash and Martial, it's a tough one, cause the both need more minutes to get to last season level again and I don't think giving them the last 20 15 minutes of a game helps them right now, but as Jose has stated, if you don't grab your spot when handed a chance, someone else will grab it from you.

All I want is for them to continue giving the performances we've seen these pass few games. Of course the result is very important but I can't stand watching a game when even if we win, I've been bored out of my mind. So here's to some excitement and a win today!

Would love to see Bastian and Carrick sharing that deep role. Neither can play 3 games in a week but they can between them.

Mourinho needs to get Bastian involved and stop this nonsense of leaving him out.

There is some reports going around that his on the bench for today's match, but I doubt it. Would be good if he gets to play the cup game on Wednesday, as he hasnt had a match in ages, and I wouldn't want to throw him into today's match out of sympathy, as I don't think he will have the lungs at the moment to play, maybe a 30 minute cameo if the game is done and dusted, but I don't see Jose doing it.

Pretty sad, but yeah, that's football.

I don't think it's nonsense to leave Schweinsteiger on the fringes currently. If Carrick has to sit out I would rather see Pogba and Herrera in a two.
    That would be dreadful

I think there could be a place for Bastian. Herrera offers something different to Carrick, and Bastian offers something similar to Carrick, so depending on what each game demands, Herrera is suited to a more attacking kind of game, where as Carrick and Bastian, should give composure and stability.

I agree there could be a role for Bastian and that he has similar qualities to Carrick but we have no idea what kind of form and fitness he's in. I'd rather we played him Wednesday if we want to start introducing him.

Basically, if he's not involved today then I trust Mourinho's judgment and I won't be giving him any stick for it.

It wasn't dreadful at home to Leicester or Burnley so not sure why West Ham would be any different.
I'm not talking about any one off game. Long term strategy against any good team it wouldn't work.

Both are far better in a midfield 3 with somebody with discipline and composure behind them.

We have somebody who could spare Carrick when needed. Use him.

Just in case your getting confused i'm not talking about starting him today, but he should be getting back into the squad slowly.

Totally agree with all of that - just not sure today is the time to do it. Maybe off the bench if we are in control.

Edit: Ah, clearly I was getting confused. Yes agree long-term we need a rotation option for Carrick

    I just edited my post.

I wouldn't start him today I agree. He should be in the squad and used in games like next Wednesday for example.

So, Rojo and Jones, who would have thought. So far they have not been found out. What happens if they become solid and go on a run of clean sheets, does Smalling and/or Bailly walk back in??

100%. I'd prefer him to get some minutes if Jose has plans to play him on Wednesday but as you said and I mentioned earlier, the condition for that should be if we in cruise control with a 3 nil lead in the bag already.

Bailly, once fully fit again, ought to be first choice. There was a time when I would have said the same for Smalling but I can't say that he's automatic first choice anymore.

I think if they having a good run, leave it be. But I still think Rojo always has a mistake or 2 in him every game. But yeah, think once those two are fit, the competition will be healthy, that's if Jones can stay fit. But his yet to convince me that his gone from glass to class.

Be interesting to see how WH set up today with Reid being out. I don't recall WH having that much pace up front so I suspect they may try and play a high line against up, which may work in our favour. I have an odd feeling we may see Fellaini back in the starting 11 today to counter the thread of Carroll. Be great if Miki got a start but I suspect the front 4 will be Mata, Pogba, Rooney and Zlatan.

They do it with the Spanish games and BT do it, why not have it on the red button? Which is not much help to you.
We get to see all 4 today. Saturday and midweek you only get one game when kick off is at the same time.

I find it ridiculous that the P.L want viewers outside the UK to see less games.

They've won 1 away game against Palace and lost the rest. If we can't beat this lot then feck it all.

    Yeah it seems JM has found his formula;

    Herrera-----
    -------Pogba
    ----Mata----

    for expected-to-dominate home games, and

    ---Carrick---
    -Herrera----
    -----Pogba--

    for the rest.

I think there's an equal chance of a 6-1 win, and a 1-1 draw. I think both are pretty likely the way things are going this season

Are we doing 4:30 games now too? Am I missing something or is this new?
It's because there are three games being shown on TV today (not one of them really interesting, but they are on TV) and usually when there are three games being broadcast on a Sunday then the times are changed slightly to fit them in better for TV, meaning the 16:00 game starts 30 minutes later. But why they are moving a game that isn't being shown on UK TV I'm not sure. When I saw the kick-off time, I assumed it was being broadcast on Sky
