When two players share the same agent, it seems only natural for them to have a few chats here and there, but when the pair also share the same age and have similar interests, a friendship is bound to blossom.

Both fans of basketball, Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku were spotted enjoying a pick-up game or two together while on holiday in the United States over the summer.

Around the same time, the former Juventus player was in the middle of one the most hyped football transfers in history. The Everton striker witnessed it in its entirety, and revealed he was with Pogba when the midfielder signed his contract with the Red Devils.

Speaking to Sport/Foot Magazine in Belgium, Lukaku was also keen to dismiss any perception José Mourinho’s new star was an arrogant person.

He said: “He’s anything but that. A lot of things are said about him, but I was there at the hotel when he signed for United. There were maybe ten people surrounding him with briefcases and contracts inside.

“When everything was signed, and I’ve known Paul for many years, I’ve never seen him with that look on his face. I’d never seen him so happy. This return to United, it had nothing to do with money.

“It was a relief, a real happiness for him. We only spoke once about football during our holidays this summer, when we were at a pool in LA, and he was telling me about his dream to return to United. That’s when I understood what it meant.”

Don't think Pogba seems arrogant at all, off or on the pitch.

If I was to put a negative spin on his character it would be more that he's so happy-go-lucky as to be careless/impulsive/brainless. On the pitch it sometimes seems like he gets caught up in trying stuff that he neglects the basics, like playing a simple pass when it's on or getting his positioning right.

Great story. Nothing better than a player who WANTS to be at United. Let's hope we're not bumping this in two or three years though when the Spaniards come a calling.....which they always do. Hope he stays for a long time.

A come and get me plea from Romelu right there.
We can afford 2 overrated Everton donkeys at a time. If we buy Lukaku they must take either Rooney or Fellaini back

This gave me a little warm fuzzy feeling inside. Once a red always a red!

It was obvious from his first MUTV interview to be honest. Yea players always say positive shit when they transfer but he was absolutely beaming and it shone through.

The comments from Lukaku here are nice, but only cement what was already apparent.

I’ve recently noticed this trend to, by default, question everything players/managers say, especially if it’s something to do with emotion towards clubs/fans. I understand that there’s a lot of hollow talk in public, but I’d hate to live my life with such scepticism.

The look on Paul’s face in his 1st interview… :D

This news would be so much better if we were doing well. Somehow I think Pogba is now thinking ''what mess have I gotten myself into''.

He doesn't look arrogant to me but rather a young man who looks happy and seemed to have a desire to return to United.

If he wanted the easy way, he would have stayed at Juventus.

Are you watching closely?
I never doubted for a second he really wanted to come back. He spoke positively about the club and the city when he was at Juve, even calling himself a Mancunian.

Never perceived him as arrogant either.

But did he dab at that time Lukaku?

Lukaku isn't good enough for United
I don't rate him as a top forward but he is a good finisher and that's what we need now with our inability to finish. Of course buying him for huge money when zlatan is in the club and rashford martial in the line seems a bit waste in fairness

It was about money as well. If it wasn't, he would have come to United on a modest sum of 100,000 gbp per week. He is not wrong is asking for the money, but this not interested in money thing is nonsense.

Of course he isn't arrogant. It's a common misconception. If anything he seems slightly kiddish (the celebrations with Pogba and those videos)

Even Ronaldo has this reputation of being a selfish jerk when everything points to him actually being a good person and a good dad.

Probably because he visibly moans when other people score instead of him and even refuses to celebrate to the other scorer at times.

Lemmy has forsaken us....
Shit, the lad spent half the day wandering around the stadium and training grounds hugging tea ladies and laundry ladies. He was either delighted, high as a kite or both.

That rumour was pretty shit, it was based on the fact that Pogba said that Zidane was one his idols, from there a lot of people just invented the "He is Madrid bound" narrative.

I think that's blown out of proportion. If anything the euros proved that he just wanted to win and doesn't really care for plaudits (giving nani the silver boot and all)

Is there a French kid out there with aspiration for competitive football who doesn't view Zidane as, at the very least, an example to follow?

There is interview with Telefoot where he is asked to describe United and he can't find his words, his eyes are just sparking.

Lukaku bonded with Zlatan too. And shortly after Zlatan signed he said "i know there are other players in the PL who'd love to play for United"

I always assumed that was a nod to Lukaku

As an aside, I'd definitely consider Lukaku in a swap deal involving Memphis and/or Schneiderlin.

Strong, pacey, powerful finisher. He's exactly what we need and would thrive in a Mourinho system in my opinion. And he's only 23. It feels like he's been around forever.
