Van gaal sorted the defence. Next step is the midfield & a RW.

Most of the work would then be done of a solid team foundation.

Not suprised that some players make it and some are merely replaced.
Sorted the defence ?
RB: Valencia, Darmian, Varela
CB: Smalling, Jones, Blind
LB: Shaw, Rojo
That doesn't look sorted does it ?
One CB too light and maybe a better competition at RB !

Heard a lot about this lad. However with the number of players people hope who make it from our academy but don't, do you think Mensah has a good chance? Is he someone who is like Pogba in terms that he will be a first-team player for a top team or is he like the many others from our academy who may be good enough to ply their trade in the PL one day but not for any top club?
He's belong to the Januzaj/Pereira type of talent that you know for sure that they will be given chances in the first team regardless of the management at the club unless you have an extreme anti-youth like Mourinho. His physicality will be useful for his adaption to first team football however he's quite new to the CM role so inconsistency is to be expected.Nobody can predict how far they will go especially with the uncertainty at the club at the moment which unlikely will change in the near future but the raw attributes are there.

It's actually very easy to spot those whom the academy staffs think are special - they often play ahead of their age group unless they have serious injuries in their younger ages or are late developer like Scholes or Lingard (no,Lingard wasn't belong to that category).Currently those who are getting that treatment are Fosu-Mensah,Tuanzebe,Gribbin,Williams,Rashford,Gomes and Reid (though Reid might due to shortage of players in the U21s).In the past 2-3 years Januzaj/Pereira/Wilson all got their early promotion to the U18/21s and have been given chances in the first team (you can argue that they should be given more or less chances but that's for another thread).

Pearson, despite being a lovely player to watch and probably will be fan favorites whichever club he goes to, is one level down that calibre of talent at least. You have that kind of players making it at the club from times to times (O'Shea etc and Lingard could be one) but there's a lot of factors behind it such as managerial preference, right timing, right mentality, how "fit" they are to English football and the EPL,etc,..People often think too simple about youth promotion - the kid is either good enough or not good enough - when environment often play a very important role as well.

Cheers for that!

He is a tidy little player, don't think he necessarily will have a worse career than Cleverley even though the former showed more promise at a point in his career.

He was never United quality though but I can see him at a lower level PL club in the future. Certainly he should play for someone more prominent than PNE.

I think he will play in the PL one day. He is a real competitor.

My girlfriend is from Preston so I have been to the last 2 home games for PNE against Sheffield and Leeds.

He's a quality player. Very very competitive.

PNE have some quality players in him, Gallagher and Mcgeady. Obviously not proper quality but good to watch.

wanted him to make it here for the sole reason that we both share a last name and it would have been cool to get his shirt.

It's why I loved Roy Carroll so much. As I was part Irish anyway, I used to pretend I was related to him in primary school. I wasn't very convinving in telling that lie, though.

I've watched him closely since his move to Preston as that's where I'm from. This season he's been up their as candidate as player of the season. My friends are big north end fans and they all love him, Gallagher was their best player but he's not been as effective this season as previous and McGeady hasn't been great.

I'd say Pearson will be in the PL within the next 2/3 years, not at a big club but he'll be there.

Never hide that I fecking love Ben Pearson. Arsenal fan's reactions on Twitter are gold

Wouldn't be surprised if he'll eventually make the same impact as the likes of Drinkwater/Michael Keane did in the PL.

Nice to hear he's doing so well at PNE as I really like him. As @khoazany said, I'm hoping he forges himself a good career at PL level like Drinkwater/M.Keane.
