When will Arsenal hire a new manager?

How many times have Arsenal been humiliated under Wenger in recent times? Today is just another one of those examples.

Baffling how this guy is still in charge. NO other big club would put up with it.

It is Arsene FC, not Arsenal these days.

I'm feeling sorry for those Arsenal fans who want Wenger out now. A full on protest at the next home is an option but just how much will that achieve. Feels bigger than Wenger now, the board are as culpable for the state of Arsenal.

The state of that performance. Worse thing is, it's not surprising anymore.

Get the sense that the Arsenal board are more concerned with maintaining top four status then taking a risk with a new manager who might win the league. A new manager would probably have to spend huge sums of money to get them into a position of challenging for the title on a regular basis.

We did something like this against Norwich at home last season. It was useless and rather pathetic-looking.

Had another argument with Wenger out fans. Its understandable to think that they want Wenger Out, but they always become silent once they are asked the 2 main questions- 1. When should they have sacked him? and 2. Who are realistic options to replace him now

Correct.

From the boards point of view Wenger is a dream manager.

They've lacked any real ambition for a long time now.

I don't know who they'd get to replace him now but Wenger should have gone after winning the FA Cup in 2014.

He could have left with a bit of dignity holding a Trophy aloft.

Personally I hope Wenger stays Arsenal boss for as long as possible.

So the season after the finish paying their stadium loan, they win the FA Cup and you think they'd sack him! That's ridiculous

As long as he can keep them in the top4, i'd never sack him. He made a better job then all Manchester United managers the last 4 seasons including this one. Looking at their balance, they are second best in the league in >money spent/achievements< for the past 5 years.

It's ridiculous..people slamming Klopp, slamming Wenger. But in the end both are doing a better job then our own manager so far.

How is it ridiculous?

It's clear he's never going to win the title again or the Champions League.

The best he can hope for is to finish top 4 and win a cup, which he did. His Contract was up the Stadium debt had been paid off. It was the absolute perfect time for him to go.

We aren't talking about his retirement time. Would any board sack a manager who wins a trophy the year after they pay off their debts?
He should have retired then no doubt, but he wanted to carry on and club was more than happy in the direction they were headed

They didn't have to sack him. That's the whole point.

His contract had ran out. It would have been an amicable split.

The Board will never sack him so it's a moot point. Wenger will leave Arsenal when he decides and only then.

Just think about the criticism they would have faced, and possibly rightfully so. No team can say to the manager that they aren't offering him a new contract the year they win a trophy and that too in the 1st year post debt repayment.
And who was available that season? Allegri's reputation was in tatters, Simeone had just finished runners up to RM in CL, things were rosy for Klopp, Ancelloti had just won the CL, and most importantly everyone had seen how south things can go when you replace a long serving manager with the wrong man

Arsenal fans should be happy with consistent top 4. They won't even get that when Wenger leaves cause I think the likely successor is going to be Eddie Howe.

I'd love to hear the input of the resident Arsenal supporters on this forum, but I imagine the reason they've kept Wenger on as long as they have can be seen when looking at the state of this club post-Fergie. Arsenal are the only other big club who give the manager complete power without oversight from a sporting director or DoF. To replace someone like that, especially when he's been at the club for 20 years, is an unbelievably difficult and risky. Arsenal have been disappointing when it comes to ultimately competing for any of the major competitions, but they've been consistently top 4 and somewhere in the KO rounds of the CL. It feels to me like a case of the devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

If they don't change manager in the summer, I think Ozil and Sanchez will be at PSG and Bayern come August.

They need a Simeone type guy (or Simeone?! Why not..) to come in - they need to take the risk and spend the money. As it is, it's a pathetic little team right now. Good players playing in a shambles of a system - they don't even attack well these days.

1. how about at the end of a season in which they finished 10 points off leicester fecking city?
2. If they sacked him last summer, as they should have, Conte. Just the guy who just won the title in february...

Next summer? Start making inquiries about sarri, allegri, tuchel and jardim. If none of those guys can come, ok, stick another season with wenger and go for simeone in 2018

1. They finished 2nd- their highest finish in 10 years. And everyone knows it was a freak season. Leicester winning the title was enough ground for every manger to be sacked including Wenger, Pochettino etc.
2. Conte was basically confirmed as Chelsea manager by early April, possibly the talks had been finalised by mid March- a time when Arsenal were firmly in the title race.

Sarri and Jardim extended their contracts last year I think. Tuchel and Allegri are decent shouts but the former is hardly being linked to them and the latter may not want to leave a team that is presently at par or better than Arsenal.
Its a well known fact Simeone wants to head to Inter after Atletico's tenure. Also, among the players Arsenal have, apart from Kosc, Sanchez and maybe Xhaka, Coq and Giroud, none of the current Arsenal players look like a Simeone player

They can leave for me. Ozil is a soft pussy, while Sanchez is a greedy twat.

They finished on 71 points in a season in which leicester finished on 81. Freak season? Sure. Doesn't make it any less of the colossal, pathetic failure that it was. Pochettino had a tottenham side with an average age of like 10 y/o, and again, tottenham, who finished on 64 points the year before. For all that they unraveled in the final 4 games(2 points) they were very much in it well into april and did better than the previous season. He was the only guy you could forgive for not winning the league. Everybody else rightfully sacked their managers. Except arsenal. For arsenal, doing worse than they did the previous season, bowing out of the title race by march, and finishing 10 pointa behind leicester, while doing feck all in the cups...wasn't a failure, apparently.

2. Conte was basically confirmed as Chelsea manager by early April, possibly the talks had been finalised by mid March- a time when Arsenal were firmly in the title race.
You get in contact with him earlier obviously, and ask him to wait another month before agreeing to take over chelsea. Wenger is on a bigger contract than Conte, and arsenal had CL footie to offer. By April, arsenal knew their season was done. By early April they should have made the decision to sack wenger and hire someone else

Sarri and Jardim extended their contracts last year I think.
It's napoli and monaco. Arsenal can afford to pry them away from their clubs

Tuchel and Allegri are decent shouts but the former is hardly being linked to them and the latter may not want to leave a team that is presently at par or better than Arsenal.
There's quite a bit of talk in italy of allegri wanting a new challenge

Its a well known fact Simeone wants to head to Inter after Atletico's tenure. Also, among the players Arsenal have, apart from Kosc, Sanchez and maybe Xhaka, Coq and Giroud, none of the current Arsenal players look like a Simeone player
It's not a given Simeone will go to inter. As for players, arsenal have money and many of their players can be sold if there's a need. Also, Simeone can just take what he's got and reshape it the way he wants. It's not like Simeone signed all the players at Atletico. He worked with what he had

Genuinely believe if he fails to make a deep run in CL, he'll leave on his own. To move upstairs, where i think he could do a good job still

Where do Arsenal fans actually expect that team to finish? Take out Ozil and Sanchez, who in my opinion aren't even "world class" anyway... and the team is full of average British players and mid table dross.

I think Wenger has done well to consistently finish in the top 4. Eddie Howe will probably get the job after him and where will you finish then? You'll be like Liverpool, begging to get back into the Champions League.

Be careful what you wish for.

If Wenger is no bigger than club, so are Ozil and Sanchez. If they don't want to play for us anymore they can leave. Good riddance.
