All you console wankers can shod off. This is dedicated to people playing the serious stuff.

I'm bored and in mood for some mind numbing PC games that don't require any thinking, like Left4Dead. I recall an very old game called Kiss Psycho Circus where you just shoot waves and waves of enemies. Anything recommendations in that category?

Or maybe Hack'n'Slash games like Dynasty Warriors? I see the latest version is selling for $49, which is a bit too much. Any good games available cheaper or free in this genre?

Diablo 3 is just hacking down waves and waves of enemies, and since it's been theorycrafted to death you don't have to do any thinking yourself.

Witcher 3 is technically hack and slash, right?

It has a quite simplistic gameplay, but very good story and an amazing world. It requires thinking though.

I liked Pillars of Eternity, good throwback to the Baldur's Gate games.

Going to start the follow up, Tyranny, soon.

I didn't know that this thing existed.

Saying that, I think that the plot of PoE was very weak and with Avellone leaving Obsidian, not sure how a good game they can make.

Tyranny was an enjoyable playthrough I found however

It seemed like the end shouldn't have been the end, but rather the beginning of a much larger game (almost like the whole game up to that point was kind of a prologue. I don't know what the DLC/expansion situation or whether there'll be a sequel to explore what happens next. I did enjoy it though in fairness, would happily buy any DLC or sequel that gets made.

The end of an Obsidian game wasn't supposed to be the end? That never happened before, cough cough...Kotor 2.

They always rush things. Maybe they are not to be blamed cause they are a moderately sized company and don't have too much money but CD Project Red just showed that even on those cases, it is better to make a top video game and sell the shit out of it (they sold more than 10m copies of the Witcher 3) than making a bunch of unfinished games that don't do as well.

Rocket League. Mindless but brilliant.

I've tried to get into Tyranny, but the fecking word-barfing does my head in. After Pillars of Eternity I'm not sure I can take another game like that. Wish Oblivion could learn that less actually is more at times.

It might be that my attention span has gone, but the only thing I play these days is Rocket League and Battlefield 1.

Currently playing the Game of Thrones mod for Mount & Blade Warband. It's so incredibly in depth, and I'm loving running about Westeros beating the crap out of the Lannisters and trying to attack Kings Landing.

The new game looks great too, and the GoT mod for that is already being made!

Is there some sort of infidel tax I could pay in order to bask in the glow of the pc master race in this thread?

I'm thinking of buying Battlegrounds. Looks like loads of fun.

Concept:

Battle Royale game. For those who've never played one before:

- You get 1 Life, if you die thats it, game over.
- 100 players, you can have a squad of 4 people max.
- You start the game in a plane with no items/weapons.
- The plane flies in a straight line across the map and you parachute out.
- You must find weapons/items that are placed on the map, or kill someone and loot their stuff.
- The map slowly shrinks as the game progresses forcing players into a random section of the map for the end.
- Matches take about 15mins (if you survive that long).

Trackmania had a free version once. Trackmania: Nations or something I think it was called. It was a load of fun but a bit mental with loops and driving on walls etc. so if you just want plain racing then it's maybe not for you.

I have been playing this since friday, Its incredibly fun.
I managed to win a solo game, somehow. I'm dreadful at FPS with Keyboard / Mouse so I think I got quite lucky but it was incredibly satisfying. It's like clutching a search & destroy game on steroids.
I'm good at the looting side though, key strategy I use is to land and find a vehicle then drive to a town that's impossible to reach from the plane. Then loot the hell out of it. It takes 10minutes for first circle to close in and it does very little damage, so even if the circles a little away you can continue looting and then drive over.
The game I won I think was around 30minutes, but I think the average length is 25mins.

The game still needs optimising and every now and then theres some lag but for a very new early access game it's in an excellent state.

Yeah, i've been watching some twitch streams of it and it looks just my kind of game. Tense and tactical with some epic wtf moments.

Some people think I'm OTT, but my first playthrough of Ori made it an all-time favourite for me. Beautiful game.

Yeah I watched a few over the weekend. I think the highest streak I heard a streamer say was 7 in solo.. how on earth lol.

It's very tactical, I like staying around the edge of circles and coming in from angles where I expect the least amount of players to be based on where the plane came in.
Although can be frustrating, you can spend 10-15minutes getting looted up to then be sniped and die without firing a shot.

I played The Culling for a bit last year, very similar sort of game. They can be great fun, you don't get the same level of tension playing anything else.

Yeah agreed, every game is different.
I really like pinning players back when a circles closing in, while I'm safe they're stuck behind cover with the wall of death coming.
You do have to really pay attention though as you can spend 10minutes without seeing another player to then walking into a building and getting shotgunned D:
Or underestimating the wall of death and dying to it while having probably my best loot run:(

Yah, i've noticed people tend to shoot way too early and give their position away. Also noticed people really don't understand how to use vegetation to mask your approach. They just run across open fields while there's a lovely hedgerow directly to their left.

If you want a casual shooter try overwatch. Lots of characters, maps, weapons, abilities, etc.

If you want a good RPG that you can dump 100 hours into try:

Classic Doom with Project Brutality mod. The very definition of mind numbing but satisfaction is endless.

Oh yeah,
Plenty of noobs, including me!
I'm dogshit at using a gun with mouse / Keyboard. Too much controller experience! Still get into the top 10 every other game but I think that's due to my passive style, although I don't camp, when I probably should at times. My playstyle is more akin to a looting / running simulator than an FPS I think:p
I guess maybe I should go to hotzones more often to practice, or wait for them to release a training mode.

The circles are pretty good though as they do stop excessive camping and force you to strategically move up or die and as the circles are different every game, you have to change your strategy on the fly.
One Game it's a mountain range, the next most of the circle resided in a cornfield with feckall cover. I don't like the small circles in towns though.

I've played 1 game so far which resulted in a CTD. But I got to 42 before it throwing me out. Need to work out whats causing the CTDs because it threw me out twice before I could even jump.

Left 4 Dead 2 - Not really demanding in terms of system requirement. Easy gameplay. Just shoot your way through hordes of zombies.
My video card is goosed. I need to get a new one but it is proving difficult. My PC is not the best.
Hopefully I can get a 2nd hand one tomorrow.

The game's not that well optimised at the moment, which could be why? I know some streamers despite their insane loadouts had some FPS issues and certain parts of the map are more intensive (I.e Georgepool)

I've turned some of the settings down despite having a decent midrange PC, i5 4690K/ GTX 970. Optimisation is currently their main focus or so they say.

I managed a full game just then.

edit: Yeah seems stable now. Just had to update a few drivers.

Alright, so early impression... sound is everything in this game. Don't use speakers you'll be shit. Headphones are a must. Seems like it's actually a tricky game if you're a long way off from the first circle, very little time to loot and you have to make a dangerous trip often taking shortcuts across open areas to get to the first area in time. So for that reason, it's probably best to spawn in the center of the map unless you gamble and try and find a vehicle and drive into it.

The game hates me. I'm always half the map away from the 1st circle and I always get the red circle spawning right in my path.

Happened in all three games i've played.
