Always liked Carrick. Gives everything game after game but my god his shooting is bloody awful. It has become so bad that he only shoots as a last resort. Surely he works on this in training but in a match he looks scared to death to try one. Its weird cos I remember Scholes' shooting going downhill badly towards the end of his career. We definitely need someone who can give us goals from midfield.

He's just not up for it anymore is he?

We looked good for the first 10 minutes when he had an influence but he wilted from there. Not even sure if he came out in the second half.

Good today. His defensive reading of the game has always been top notch.

he was playing as a pure DM in the 2nd half, stationed right within 5 feet of the two center backs.

He tried his best but at times they just breezed past him with too much ease, and with him not having the legs anymore he couldn't step out and use his passing which makes him far less effective.

Well yes, obviously, I didn't literally mean I didn't know if he'd come back out or not. He still reads the game well and will always pop up with a decent interception or tackle in that role, but players run past him as if he's a cone more often than not.

It's hard to blame him too much though, he's just got old.

Composed as usual but some poor passing at times. Him and Herrera were poor I thought.

I thought he looked extremely limited tonight. Physically it was a painful performance to watch, didn't show much quality on the ball. I guess he helped to protect the defence but when it came to building attacks, he went missing.

Their midfield just strolled past carrick like it was nothing. How was this performance a masterclass ?

if you are referring to my post it was a comment in general not about this particular performance even though i think he was very good today.

He looks shattered and Jose looks forced to play him in the next 3 league games.

We probably need him in the EL games too.

Not sure how we pin hopes on starting an attack on Carrick with just Rashford playing an attacking role.

We were negative as a collective with one predictable outlet.

That's not to say he should be starting games of this magnitude as this stage of his career. I just don't see the gripes directly against him tonight at all holding any weight. You've got two full backs who rarely ventured forward. Martial and Mkhi were constantly coming inside. Fellaini and Herrera were unable to recycle possession under pressure also.

We went for a draw and came back with it. The lack of intent has to fall in someone else's hand tonight.

But I expected most of it to be fair. No way Jose was going there and risking a loss.

At his age he needs runners. Herrera is one, and well... think we would have done better with pogba rather than fellaini today.
Thought he was decent today though especially with our tactics.

I think he'll be good for 10 to 15 games next year, against the right opponents and when he's fully rested. We simply can't go into the season relying on him though, he's too old. Been brilliant for us so I hope he can go out on a high.

He's been a stand out awful player so far this match. Him and Herrera are pointless as a midfield unit.

Two games in a week is far too much for him. Letting Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin go with no replacement coming in looks increasingly mental.

Looking over my shoulder.
Improved as the game went on, but really struggled in the first 15 and it had nothing to do with his legs, but wayward passing and a dreadful clearance, both very much unlike him. Hopefully he steps up in the second.

The fact that we are so dependent on him is an indictment on our transfer dealings over the past decade.

Feel sorry for him. Shouldn't be playing 2 games a week but we need him now. Felliani''s stupidness midweek didn't help.
I agree.

For me he's still got the quality to play in CM for us and is as good a holding CM as there is in the EPL, but only if his game time can be managed.

He's a special type of player. Only a few examples of this type are created per generation and it's no surprise we need to hold on to him or there won't be no game dictation.

Van Bommel, Pirlo, Scholes, Xavi, Lampard, Zidane, Ballack are the few names of this generation.
