What is it about ex-Liverpool players turned pundits, a large number of whom go batshit crazy when someone makes the fatal mistake of paying them for their opinions on football? It's like they've been watching clips of Mike Summerbee and thought "you know, that guy really gets this punditry thing".

He also seems to fundamentally find it inconceivable that the top 6 will ever lose a game. He has forecast that the top 6 would have lost 13 games by this stage of the season. Actual number of games lost: 34. Jesus pissing Christ.

On what basis is this table composed? Pardon me not being arsed to go through this idiot's twaddle.

Edit: nevermind, it's some pre-season prediction bullshit, no? He just should put away alcohol.

No, it's a summary of his weekly score predictions. Basically, there wasn't a single game this season where he predicted Liverpool would lose.

I think he does some sort of weekly prediction thing for the BBC.

Oh Christ, thanks, I'd say it 'makes sense' but it still doesn't. I stand by my point about the alcohol.

Liverpool fans and ex players really do live in a world of their own. The most deluded bunch in all of football.

If it wasn't for the injuries, the fixture congestion, United scoring offside goal, the entire population of Plymouth, the wind, the dryness of their own pitch, Southampton trying less against Arsenal than vs Liverpool then he wouldn't be that far off with the predictions.

This is going on my bedroom wall, I knew reality was a lie.

Back level with United on 20 league titles after 2014, couldn't possibly slip up from here.

Don't see much wrong with it especially as he's biased. Obviously he knows Liverpool will lose but it's about predicting when and against who.
I bet there's quite a few here who have never put down a loss for their predictions for Utd games and only predict draws against the some of the top 6 or when Utd weren't playing well for a period early in the season

Except;
1 - we don't paid for it
2 - we aren't don't have access to in depth analysis, stats, inside information etc
3 - despite him obviously having biases, as a pundit he's *meant* to remain neutral & objective

He sits on the fence always and goes for a draw. I think Alaister McGowan should bring back his Lawro character and make a few predictions. Probably predict draws in the NBA would Lawro.

Yeah it's hard to swallow. They also won the "best overhead kick" cup, "alternative league", "net spend" cup (they always win that). All whilst being the only team that has to contend with injuries, wind and playing on a dry pitch. Popcorn teeth is indeed a genius.

Just wait until he figures out how to break down a team that has the audacity to play defensive. They will probably win the "woodwork cup" back from us.

If he were on it I'd like to see Roy Keane's summary prediction table. He'd surely have us relegated, wouldn't he?

I sort of get it given they are very good against the top sides, so you wouldn't necessarily back against them in those, whilst their actual defeats have been against shite, where it wouldn't be expected.

Then I remember he does similar every year and these days looks like he lives under a bridge by a canal and I wonder why he's still a pundit for the BBC.

Every country has its own football pundits, they are part of the folklore. The BBC ones swing from post-imperial, insular condescendence to perfect Alan Partridge, you take them at face value, no bitterness at all.

I would like to see Phil Thompson's league table! He is even worse.

Every single prediction is a Liverpool win.

If a top 6 team is playing a non-top six team, pick the top six team to win by two goals. No more than 2-0 or 3-1.

If a top six team is playing another top six team, pick the home side to win by one goal, unless they’re both in good form, in which case pick 0-0 or 1-1.

If it’s two mid-table teams playing each other, or two relegation candidates, pick a narrow victory for the home team, or a draw. No more than 2 goal victory or 0-0 or 1-1.

And of course, Liverpool never lose. They win every home game and never lose.

I’d love to see someone write a computer script for this, he’s clearly got a system that’s very easy to predict.

That's a 76 unbeaten run. What an incredible achievement.

I remember him always being negative in his predictions for us a few years back.
