He couldn't influence the game much because Swansea isolated him by marking Herrera out of the game. He had no one to rotate the ball do.

Agree its too much to play him twice in 4 days. I can see him getting rested against in Celta Vigo

I wonder how he is going to handle this period of fixtures coming up. I don't think he particularly looked fatigued in general I think he's just gotten so slow that he can barely run. It will be absolutely crucial to bring a replacement in for him during the summer.

Looks really tired today. I think selling two midfielders gave him more games than his legs are capable of...

Herrera covered for him well but it pins us further back

He's not done bad and he'll always be class on the ball but there's just not enough energy in him anymore. Having him and Rooney in a midfield leaves us chasing players and the ball all the time. Ramsey has gotten away a few times already.

He knows what to do but just can't do it quickly enough anymore. Younger, faster players are taking advantage of it.

Struggled with the runs off him and had nothing to hit when he had the ball as almost everyone bar Martial was back with him most of the time.

It should be clear by now not to play him in a two man midfield.

Both him as well as his partner usually suffer for it.

Shouldn't be given that much number of minutes next season tbh. He can stay but be a squad player, great player but he's past his peak and playing too much caught his legs finally. We need a permanent replacement for him in summer.

Need to replace him ASAP.

He can't be relied upon anymore. Been poor since Fergie retired. Almost like Rooney tbh.

The sideways tendency was in force today. There's no better way to invite trouble and pressure.

Really frustrated me at times.

We need to stop playing him in a midfield two. I get we didnt have much choice today, but maybe we should have had Mata as the player in front of him and herrera.

He still has the eye for the pass, but there was barely anyone making any decent attacking runs today for him to aim at. Ended up passing it in the middle with Captain Fantastic for far too much of the match

I think it was right not to start him.
I also think he came on at about the right time in the game.

He's not having a great game I agree but playing CM with Axel and with Rooney for support against a quality Spurs CM, you've not much chance.
You can just say he's been poor, over the last 3/4 seasons he's been beyond criticism.

He's not been good and for someone of his experience he really needs to lead a bit more. He's never been good against these types of teams and he's never been particularly vocal either to be fair.

Apols, my mistake.
No problem. It's the main reason I've been so critical myself of him over the years. Not because he's a bad player but becasue he has seemingly been beyond reproach for so long.

His legs have gone, disappointed with the fact he's not making those passes when teammates are making to the runs behind the defence.

Playing a CM who is 35 in a one man midfield against the energy of that Spurs midfield is ridiculous

Legs have gone.

Still got moments of class in him though, that pass right at the end to set rashford through on goal was great.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
He just can't deal with teams that press him.
Yeah :annoyed: against teams that annoys you with constant high pressing especially if he's being marked or surrounded, Carrick struggle to play.

His passings today are quite poor overall, except few of the forward long amazing passes he made to Rashford and Martial.

Still class, but doesn't perform well against Tottenham, not that we have much of a choice.

Although still capable of one killer pass-Rashford chance today-that is not enough, paticularly as we need 5 or 6 chances to get a goal. It's been great with him and although he has never been a tool like Rooney his legacy deserves not to be tarnished. He is in real danger of going on too long and being slaughtered for what is inevitable-time catching up with him. By all means give him a coaching role but no more starts after this season please!

As others have said, his legs look gone.

With a good rest over the summer do we think he could be managed to play every few weeks next season and still contribute? Is he good enough to be worth that kind of setup?

If we don't keep Carrick then we'll have to buy at least two more central midfielders you'd think. Thin enough as it is in that position.

I think his best contribution would be to go coach with one of the youth teams and be registered as a player so he can come in to do a John Obi Mikel impression to finish out a few matches here and there when we have a few injuries.

We overused him this season and that's the result. His age can't let him play that many regular matches in a season so his performance has dropped as the season went.

Hopefully we can finally sort the dilemma of finding a long term replacement for him in summer.

Do Opta keep stats of how often a player falls over because they're in their mid 30s and it's a long way to run from the opposition half back towards our goal so not much energy left to stand up ? I see FourFourTwo note those instances as failed tackles; that's generous of them.

I think another problem is that weve used him in 2 men midfield at times. Or midfield without runners which is nuts.
Carrick/Pogba/Herrera was when Carrick looked his best. Anything other than that is nuts.

Yes, his legs need runners around him to cover them, that's why his triple with Herrera and Pogba show them complementing each other.

We mismanaged him this season.
