He had more bad moments than good today, I hope he plays in the final over Smalling though as I trust him more.

I'd like to give him the benefit of lacking match fitness.. had a much better 2nd half, and should start vs Ajax. Better player than Smalling

Same benefit of the doubt goes for Smalling too, had a worse game but is also clearly still getting back to full fitness.

Much prefer him on the left of the defence; can see a future for him replacing Darmian as the inverting leftback too.

Was very good tonight. Encouraging performance. He's always had it in him, he just needs to stop getting injured.

I've never rated him, like at all. But to be fair to him, he was good tonight and he's generally been good 'when' fit this season.

One of the few players who put in a standard PL effort. Some good defending from Jones tonight.

I thought overall this season hes been good for us. With Rojo earlier on I thought he was good until that injury.
His last few games have looked like hes just come back from injury early, (which probably is the case).
Today he looked good and made some important blocks and interceptions.

Credits where it's due, good defending performance today :smirk: intercept and sweep a lot of passes, and move the ball forward a lot immediately, defend crosses well, blocks a lot and cover defend by a much.

Eyeing to start in the finale eyh.

Good job.

Jones and Blind for the final against Ajax attackers is not bad, both of them are good against lightweight pacy and technical players imo.

His outfield-player for us - and should start on wednesday alongside Blind!

He's a far better defender than Smalling and should start the final. Shame he's so injury prone.

Didn't put a foot wrong. Don't think Jose would have wanted to play him the whole game, but thankfully he got through the game unscathed.

I think he should be ahead of Smalling. Thats back to back games hes done well.

The only question is whether him and Blind would work? We havent seen it have we? With Smalling/Jones and Smalling/Blind we know what to expect.

He's not starting the final after playing the full game today. And it was a dead rubber with Palace basically on their holidays, let's not go over the top over analysing it.

Great game.

CPalace doesn't offer much threat, it's amusing how many times Jones bomb forward :D, thrice I think, and shot once if I recall correctly.

He's in top form atm, hope he carried it forward and start at the upcoming finale.

4:0 against Feyenoord at home. Seems to be the only game.

I think we will. He went through a phase a few months ago where he played every minute for about 9 games in a row iirc. Think he's that sort of player that needs the match rhythm

Why? Centre backs don't need as much recovery time as other positions. Especially for Jones imo, where match rhythm is really important for him.

Ajax youngsters with 10 days rest versus Jones with 2 days rest after 90 minutes. Can't see Jose doing that, he'll want fresh players.

Thats interesting. I think Jones when on top form is really good as an actual defender. The way he puts his body on the line to ensure goals arent conceded. Blind seems more a natural leader which could help him. The only thing is, Jones has been playing on the leftside. Blind would take that and Jones moves across. Hopefully doesnt ruin his rhythm (but then again, he was there when partnering with Rojo).

Possibly his second best season with us in the end?

I still think it's clear what Sir Alex and others saw in him, but injuries have stopped him progressing and we've ended up with a good centre back who's unavailable half the time instead of a potential world beater. So frustrating.

I suspect he'll stick around just because nobody's going to make a decent offer for a player with such a dreadful injury record.

I've wanted him sold for ages but am now starting to change my mind.

My "logic" is that him being injured for the majority of every season will ensure plenty of opportunities for Tuanzebe.

I think it will be Smalling and Blind although I would want Jones and Blind.

I think Blind is a cert. I think he has a slight edge knowing Ajax and used to playing in the Dutch league.

This fella's gone. That handshake with Woody was pure body language with the way he went from laughing with Blind to a respectful acknowledgement of Jones. It had that manager respect-but-I-know-your-off vibe all over it. I'll eat Madthinker's bike if he's still here next season.
