Just heard on Five live that tenants were advised to remain in the building for their own safety. Local eye witness says she heard screams of help and cannot see any sign of survivors. This looks really bad, as the fire seemed to spread really quickly..

Holy sh... I was NOT expecting a picture like that. That's scary as hell.

"It's so heartbreaking, I've seen someone flashing their torches at the top level and they obviously can't get out."

There's not a sentence severe enough to deal with someone who'd risk the lives of so many for the sake of a few quid...

I'm usually a pretty cold person, but this really is hard to stomach. Absolutely horrible :(

Council were warned. Some people will be in big trouble during the aftermath.

How can a building burn right through so easily -- its as though the entire building was made of matchsticks. Usually its in small sections.

The place was apparently a fire hazard. Council were warned.

Apparently nobody above the fourth floor has gotten out.

Via Sky...

The brigade is warning neighborhood residents: if they receive a call from a trapped relative, they should be told to self-evacuate now, and not to wait for rescuers.

Same here but feel physical sick at the moment just thinking about what some people must be going through. Awful awful news

BBC reporter said it was refurbished and residents had just moved back. Cant have been the fire hazard it was as before.

Saw this earlier on NBC news in the states.

Absolutely horrific. Pictures look as if from a disaster movie.

Earlier footage showed some lights flashing on an off in apartments, presumably people were trying to show firefighters where they were. Later footage looks like some or all of those areas might have been burnt out now. Hoping for the best but fearing the worst.

Any updates if people are still in there? The fire looked horrific.
Sky are reporting they saw someone inside the building, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see 100+ still in there at the end of all this. Firefighters couldn't get past the 6th floor (there's 27 total), and residents were told to stay in place for their own safety.

Thats the scary thing about living in dense high rise buildings --you just need an idiot falling asleep with his ciggie in his hand...

Had a fire, although much smaller, in my apartment block few months ago as well, and got told the same. It seemed to make sense then as all the flat doors are fire resistant and the stairways were full of thick smoke. Obviously wasn't the case here, though :(

Devastating news, can't imagine the horror folks living there are going through :(
