Arsene Wenger has claimed he tried to sign Rashford before he was even conceived, his parents were shocked and told him to get out of their bedroom.

Wenger's so full of shite. I'm sure any decent club would've known about any promising players who'd eventually go on and fulfill that promise (plus those who don't.)

Knowing about so-and-so when he was just a wee teenager and actually coming close to signing them are two different things and I suspect Wenger can't or doesn't want to differentiate between these two things.

Who needs N'Golo Kante when you have Red Card Xhaka?

Apparently Wenger has said that money in some way stopped him getting Kante when he in fact spent more on Xhaka. :houllier:

Does anyone else think of hitting Wenger on the head with the fake arm that Evra bit? I do.

What a clown, so irritating! As if everybody else is perpetually sitting in the corner with a 'Dunce' cap on their heads.

I don't understand why Wenger seems to see it as a badge of honour that he identifies all these players and then either fails to sign them or decides not to, only for them to have great careers elsewhere. Why would that be considered something to be proud of?

"I picked 8 winners at Cheltenham today"
"Wow. How much did you win?"
"Oh, nothing. I didn't bet on any of them"
"Right. So you didn't bet at all?"
"Oh I did"
"Did any of those horses win?"
"No. No they didn't"

Good job.

I'm off to the Comedy Store tonight, but I'm sure I won't hear anything that makes me laugh harder than this post. Perfectly done.

Wenger is like "if my aunt had the balls she would be my uncle". You don't have to try, you have to do it.

Wenger knew about Mbappe before it was cool. Obviously.

Arsene Wenger has revealed he went to Kylian Mbappe’s house last year to try and persuade the forward to sign for Arsenal.

In his first season in professional football the 18-year-old striker has been sensational, scoring an incredible 24 goals in 38 matches for the Ligue 1 Monaco.

“The player would tell you that I was at his home last year to try to get him here,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“Because he was at the end of [his] contract but Monaco managed to keep him and the decision was very, very tight.

“But I could understand it as well because he was educated there and at the end decided to stay there.”

Asked if Wenger could get him, he replied: “I don’t know that is down to him. But today he will decide where he goes, because he can say Real Madrid maybe, Barcelona maybe, Arsenal, Manchester…he can go where he wants.”

At some time you stop believing him and think he's just lying to justify his failure. He can't have seen and followed all those players it's insane.

If he had signed all of them as he claimed, Arsenal would have been with 5 CL or something like that :D :D

Somebody at Arsenal needs to tell Wenger to shut up about players he could have signed but didn't.

I'd be embarrassed to know my club could have signed so many class players but chose not to and now they languish in mediocrity.

He did try to sign him, surely?
Arsenal.com actually wrote a piece on how Carrick almost signed.

HOW CARRICK NEARLY BECAME THE 'NEW VIEIRA'

By Richard Clarke 15 Sep 2006

Michael Carrick is likely to line up against Arsenal on Sunday but, for a time, Arsène Wenger saw him as the natural replacement for Patrick Vieira.

The French midfielder was linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2004. Had the transfer gone through, Wenger would have gone for the 25-year-old Englishman to fill the void. Circumstances changed and Carrick eventually went to Tottenham just before the transfer window closed that year.

In July this year he left White Hart Lane for Old Trafford in a deal reported to be worth £18.6 million. Wenger remains an admirer.

"He has made a big step up," said the Arsenal manager. "I felt that Manchester United had the need to take a central midfielder. They paid a bit more because Tottenham didn't necessarily want to lose him. That is the explanation of his price.

"But I personally I rate him as a player because he nearly came here. When Vieira wanted to leave for Madrid, it was him I planned as a replacement.

"It didn't happen because Vieira stayed and we had Edu, Gilberto already and then Fabregas. I felt it was unfair to him to make him come and not play.

"I didn't go in for him again this time because I knew that Tottenham to Arsenal is an expensive way [to move]."

Yes. he made bids for Pele, Rivellino and Tostao as well Gordon Banks and Bobby Moore. In another little-known fact, he tried to prise Abe Lincoln out of the White House to be the club's lawyer but when that failed turned his attention to Bobby Kennedy

"I once tried to sign ............... I personally rate him as a player and he nearly join us. It didn't happen because .........................."

Fill in the blanks. Rinse and repeat. Only applicable to now famous players.

So you tried and failed again and again Wenger. Doesn't that really make you a specialist in failure? :D
