Former Chelsea player who never really got a chance to shine: Since leaving Chelsea he played 26 games for Fiorentina and managed 9 goals and 4 assists in 14/15 (half season loan); in the 15/16 season for Roma he got 15 goals and 6 assists in 42 games; this season for Roma he has 10 goals and 7 assists in 22 games. His record for Egypt is also 1 in 2 (53 Caps 29 Goals)

He is still only 24 and from the snippets of him that I've seen, he looks a pretty good player who is improving all the time. His main attributes seem to be his pace, technical ability and dribbling. He is playing in a very exciting Roma side by the looks of things (they seem to score quite a-lot) and really excelling.

Has anyone who has watched him regularly the last few seasons been impressed by him? Will a bigger club come calling again?

He's been excellent for Roma. Probably their standout performer for me for the last 2 seasons along with Nainggolan.

I didn't realise he was that young.

Saw quite a bit of him at Chelsea, and then for Fiorentina. Unless he's massively improved at Roma, he is the epitome of the fast winger who looks amazing on Youtube, but is immensely frustrating to watch on a weekly basis. He's the kind of athletic winger the Premier League has seen a lot of - the type who looks incredible one week and absolute shit the next. The "he has all the ingredients, but if only he could figure it out..." type. They never do.

He's not a particularly good dribbler, unless kicking the ball 10 yards past a defender and trying to recover it himself constitutes good dribbling. His technique and decision-making can fluctuate anywhere between adequate to Bramble, often in the same game. He's at his best in an open game with space to run into, something he won't see a lot of at a big club, especially not in the Premier League.

Pretty sure Rodgers - or the nefarious "transfer committee" at Liverpool - were interested in him before Chelsea came along, so he might get a chance there. I could see him being successful in Klopp's system for a couple of months, leading to lots of hot takes about Klopp vs. Mourinho, and general hysteria, before he inevitably returns to his original level and we pretend those discussions never happened.

The only other feasible "big club" option in England could be Arsenal, if Arsene decides he wants to relive the Theo Walcott Experience (™). They're already reliving every season on a loop, why not take the next step and relive the players that led to them reliving every season? Loops within loops within loops. Feels like something Arsene would be into.

I like him a lot and was frustrated when Chelsea blew us out of the water (as they did with Batshuayi), only to then loan them out/ never play them.

Exactly. We tried to sign him too but he chose the kerching over actual playing time.

The first time I remember seeing him was when he played for Basel against Spurs, he looked a good prospect but there's a bit of the Walcott about him.

Comparing him to Walcott ffs. He's one of the best right wingers in football. Arguably Top 5.

I questioned whether a 'bigger club might come calling' and he moves to Liverpool, FFS! Anyhow, I rate him but I feel Liverpool have far more pressing issues to address in their squad.

Think he is a decent acquisition on paper. An improvement on what they have, but a part of the pitch were they have so many similar players. Questions over will he deliver week in/week out which they do struggle with. But think 40mill should have been spent on their obvious defensive issues first, then a striker. Salah is far from the player they actually needed in right now.

Him and Mane in the same team? Haven't seen huge amounts of Salah but he plays wide right does he not?

If Klopp likes him then he must run a lot.

Just looks like a fancy Jermaine Pennant to me. Second rate player and shows the status of Liverpool compared to other European sides. Nothing especially exciting at all and they are treating it like they've signed Messi.

He does mainly , I think Mane will be switched to the left, but I also expect them to interchange.
It's a very exciting attacking line up we have.

He is a player we need, we struggled badly when we had injuries to our attacking options last season.
Money would have been spent on VVD had we not messed the deal up.

He can play on the left or the right and operate as a striker if needed too.

We will sign a centre back at some point anyway.

Excellent player for Roma, but he wasn't that good for Chelsea (he wasn't given a proper chance, tbh). Could be perfect for Liverpool and their fast attacking play though.

Seems quite ridiculous to move their best/most consistent player to a new position.

But what do I know. I said in August I'd take Miki over Mane.
I was just assuming really, will have to see I guess. Salah played mostly on the right for Roma but is also mostly left footed...so what do I know!

EDIT - quotes from Salah:

"Last season with Roma we played five at the back and two strikers; I was a second striker, like a number 10," he told LFCTV.
"I have played on the right. Sometimes I go on the left. I can play anywhere up front."

Given todays prices and that we're about to spend on 60-70m on Morata, 35m for him is a great deal considering he was one of the best performers in serie A last season.

Yeah I thought he was close to 30, must be the beard.

Fascinating to see how and where Klopp will use him.

He's about as good a winger as Morata is a Striker.

Lots of goals? Lots of assists/chances created?

It's a good signing imo.
To be honest I'm only basing it on what I've seen him from when he was at Chelsea. I could never understand why they sold him.

Some electric pace on him, saw him feature a few times in a vid I saw of Paredes the other day, and he is atleast on par with Mane, perhaps even faster.

In Italy. As always, it remains to be seen if we can cut it in England. He tried once - but failed. If he was as good as this thread tells us right now, bigger and better clubs would come sniffing at 35M.

I don't rate him, but I do rate Morata, who is a top striker.
They scored the same number of goals last season.
Morata although playing second fiddle to Benzema most of the season played in a team which scored 170+ goals? Whereas Salah played RW and CAM. I mean those are good numbers for just about any player in the world in those positions. Mane for Comparison scored 13 goals.

Obviously this doesn't factor in intangibles such as Morata's technical quality which I think in the right system and team can elevate him to world class.

Salah will likely never be world class, but it's clear he has a lot of good qualities.

But as of now I think they are both just good players. Who on their day can be very good.

I hope he succeeds in England but for his team to fail obviously. :D

At the end, seeing an Egyptian player playing regularly for a top 6 team in England has been a dream for me.
