Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, commonly known as Real Madrid, or simply as Real, is a professional football club based in Madrid, Spain. Real Madrid's origins go back to when football was introduced to Madrid by the academics and students of the La Institución Libre de Enseñanza, which included several Cambridge and Oxford University graduates. They founded (Sociedad) Sky Football in 1897, commonly known as La Sociedad (The Society) as it was the only one based in Madrid, playing on Sunday mornings at Moncloa. On 6 March 1902, after a new Board presided by Juan Padrós had been elected, Madrid Football Club was officially founded. The club became one of the founding sides of The Royal Spanish Football Federation on 4 January 1909, when club president Adolfo Meléndez signed the foundation agreement of the Spanish FA.

Under Santiago Bernabéu's guidance, Real Madrid established itself as a major force in both Spanish and European football. The club won the European Cup five times in a row between 1956 and 1960, which included the 7–3 Hampden Park final against Eintracht Frankfurt in 1960. After these five consecutive successes, Real was permanently awarded the original cup and earning the right to wear the UEFA badge of honour. In domestic football, the club has won 63 major trophies; a record 33 La Liga titles, 19 Copa de Rey, 9 Supercopa de España, a Copa Eva Duarte, and a Copa de la Liga. In European and worldwide competitions, the club has won a record 22 major trophies; a record 12 European Cup/Champions League titles, two UEFA Cups and three UEFA Super Cups. In international football, they are the only Spanish club to have won both international titles, a joint record three Intercontinental Cups, and two FIFA Club World Cups. Real Madrid were recognised as the FIFA Club of the 20th Century on 11 December 2000, and received the FIFA Centennial Order of Merit on 20 May 2004.

Given the stature of the club, Real Madrid has a number of rivalries on both the domestic and European front. Primary among them are Barcelona - with games between Real Madrid and Barcelona known as El Clásico (The Classic), and Atlético Madrid - with games between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid known as El Derbi madrileño (The Madrid Derby). On the European front, Real Madrid have had secondary competitive rivalries with the likes of Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Manchester United, Ajax, Benfica and Internazionale over the years. The team has played its home matches in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in downtown Madrid since 1947.

Gonna be a difficult game, but I hope we compete and we show what we are capable of.
Looking forward to see Matic with the red shirt.

    Bring it on!

We'll win just because we'll take it more seriously than Madrid.
    We have more to prove

Not enough pre-season games, we're much more match fitter and hungrier.

Ronaldo just started training, hopefully not much impacts against us.

High likely Real will focus more on Spanish SUPER CUP, more key players rested or risk injuries.

    :devil:We got this! optimistic much

Tonight's game should give a good idea of who will start this, but I'd expect to see:

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Darmian
    Herrera Carrick Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Lukaku Rashford

Can't wait for this! Can see it being a close game, potentially going into extra time.

Like others have said, we should have a slight edge due to the fact that we're ahead in our preparations for the season, but then again Real Madrid have the better players.

Will Matic be ready for this, having not had a pre-season? Doubt it. Not that it would make a significant difference. With or without him for Utd, Real Madrid are clearly favorites in any serious match.

    0-2 RM imo.

Scrappy Fellaini goal for the win. Maybe Lingard will get on the score sheet too.

They're without Ronaldo though. Their best player by a distance.

Something like this I'd guess. Not sure if Mourinho will trust lindelof-smalling in a back 2 right away against madrid. Though maybe Matic wont be quite ready so we could see rashford or martial up alongside lukaku and push miki and pogba in mid.

Based on tonight's team - that's the team I think Jose will play in EUFA Super Cup.

Although I'd swap Rashford's and Lukaku's position. As I think Darmian will be much more defensive wingback than Valencia, therefore Rashford will be needed out wide.

I feel confident that both Matic and Fellaini get minutes in this one. Will be interesting to see how the two compare in the same system, or even at the same time.

Martial have been have good this preseason, and can actually beat a player. With confidence he is/can be devastating. Looks a lock for the left. Rashford on the right? Mata? Lingard? That's got to be Rashford, surely.

Now compare the left side and the right side.

I really hope Luke Shaw will be better than Darmian or Blind. I actually like Blind, but in that system both him and Darmian are useless in my opinion.

Blind is perfect as a center back in a back 3 IMO. Nothing wrong with him there. The only problem is of course Darmian who doesn't offer much going forward, which is a big part of the reason why we've been going for Perisic. No matter if we use a 3 at the back formation or a 4 at the back formation, our left back/wing back will be the weak point. It's just cause a lack of options.
