Swansea will do nothing except sitting as deep as possible and defending. It's time for us to see how our squad will deal with this.

There's no need for 3 midfielders in this game. We should stick with 4-2-3-1 to press them as much as possible.
They are playing at home. They will attack to some extent. We just have to hit them on the counter if they sit deep otherwise.

They don't have any means to attack us now. Clement will try to take what he can from this game which is a draw.

The thought of two clean sheets, a GD of 7 already, top of the league with maximum points before the others even slug it out over the weekend is just too much to comprehend! :houllier:

What I would give for nice 3-0 victory at The Liberty.

Swansea have sold their best player (Sigurdsson), their best striker (llorente) is injured. Biggest of them all Ki is injured.

Shouldn't be dropping any silly points.

It feels great to look forward to United games again.

Under Moyes and LvG I still watched every game, but it felt like I had to, rather than I actually wanted to. Got to thank Jose for that I guess.

    New season, new optimisim.

Going for a 2-0 win to United.

Even this early into the season a win will put a bit of pressure on the rest. I'm under pressure to find a bar in genoa that's got the game on

No excuses not to win this one comfortably.

    3-0

    Lukaku to score again

If we're going to be serious title contenders then this is a game we have to win. There's probably not going to be a better time to play them.
I'm terrible at predicting the score but I think we'll win. Would love it if we did it in as commanding a manner as last week.

Plays into our hands. We were consistently good at getting those 2-0 away wins under Jose last season despite our awful finishing. I expect us to collect a lot of points away this season as well.

Starting with this game. Should be a routine win.

We have a very good record defensively on the road and Swansea are without their main striker and also Sigurdsson. We should keep a clean sheet and score down the other end otherwise it will just be another false dawn.

Swansea without Sigurdsson should be toothless but they have this tendency to step up against big teams (not just United) at the moment you absolutely do not expect them to (see the win they recorded against us under van Gaal). It's also an away game which is always tricky. I think we are going to win this but won't be surprised if we have to come from behind, or concede at some point.

Think we will go with 3 in the cm Matic Herrera and Pogba with Miki, Rashford and Lukaku. When is the presser need the team news so I can submit my line up

I have gone with this above lineup too. I beleive he means to play 4-3-3 in away games generally. But it needs to be seen if we are equally threatening in that lineup as we were in the first game.

Let's not go there changing our game to suit them, we've done that enough last year.

4-2-3-1, play the same team against West ham and let's batter them.
This, just barrage them as we did Hammers. Have confidence in our defence to keep the clean sheet and confidence in our attack to knock them for a couple.

It's the battle of Rashford vs Martial, again.

I think both of them deserve to start. If Jose is only going to play one of them, I'm going for Rashford.

I think there is a small chance of us seeing Martial-Lukaku-Rashford.

    1. Both deserve to start for obvious reasons, but Rashford has to be "sacrificed" again
    2. Although Rashford as RW hasn't been good based on a few games, it's still too early to tell. Now things have changed. Also, his "constantly attacking space with pace" and right-footed cross can be vital.
    3. Most importantly, playing him as RW is the only way to play 3 of them together. All of them are lethal and pacey, which is defenders' nightmare. There could be "synergy", 1+1+1 = 4. Plus, Martial and Rashford both provide different attacking style from the width.
    4. Jose's style is, defense comes 1st, attack 2nd. With our proven defensive record (including a world class DDG) and Matic's stability, we can afford to go more offensive.
    5. Yes every point is important, but it is only 2nd game
    6. Swansea is likely to defend deep, especially without their main attackers

If they both start, it's hard to say whether we will play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. But I think both could work, depending on how offensive Jose wants it to be. A midfield of Matic-Pogba-Mkhi in a 4-2-3-1 has more creativity, whereas Matic-Herrera-Pogba in a 4-3-3 has more stability and more combative.

Some of the main argument against this system as discussed in another thread of "Martial-Lukaku-Rashford" include the lack of creativity and lack of composure.

    Individually, yes.

In the big picture, I see 2 factors can greatly solve the issue

    1. A new attacking dynamics. For both systems, with the stability of Matic and Lukaku stretching defense, compared to last season, now we will have more space and more "numbers" up front with CM/AM, fullbacks, and wingers all joining the attack.
    2. As a result of this dynamics, Jose is able to play more offensively compared to last season. (not going to go into details here, in short, my view is that when Jose knows he has a very good offensive team with good/very good defense, then he will go offensive, just like his 04-06 Chelsea and Real)

Now our fullbacks and CM/AM, especially Pogba/Mkhi, can push much higher, create chances and balance out their lack of composure, allowing Martial/Rashford/Lukaku playing a more direct role, which is what they are best at. Martial can focus on dribble past his players (now with less players than last season), Rashford attacking the space on the right, and Lukaku running behind defenders, all with support coming from fullbacks and CM/AM. This is the ideal offensive scenario.

PS: You can quote me post-match

    I'd like to see;
    Lukaku
    Martial Mkhi Rashford
    Pogba Matic
    Blind Jones Bailly Valencia
Cases can be made for Herrera and Mata to start as well though.

I'm used to us playing 2 games in a week. Waiting a whole week for a match is too much! I hope we go far in all competitions this season too. I'm expecting an easy win but you never know in the EPL.

It's been a fecking long time since I've felt like I can't wait to watch United play again.
Imagine if LVG had stayed. Maybe last year, we'd finished 4th/5th and we'd have to possibly endure (assuming LVG extended his contract) another season of slow, boring, risk-averse, ultra defensive football.

Pretty sure there's an international break coming up soon :/

But after that, it'll be 2 games per week for most of the season (if we stay in CL and a cup or two)

I'm confident we'll win too, but I'd still field a goalkeeper for this one, just to be sure.

Probably O'Shea will do. We need to rest both DDG and Romero for the next game. It'll be a long season, they will need to play in the finals of EL, FA, PL and CL. And Super Cup of next season.

Expecting the same line up for this game. Maybe Darmian for Blind, or Herrera for Mata. We're going to win with at least a two goal margin

I reckon he will put Pogba in CAM and Herrera Matic holding and keep the rest as it was last week. Hard to tell because of the way Swansea might play. if they play really deep Mata could be useful.

I'm just really excited again to watch Utd, it's been such a long time.

No way we start the game with no strikers on the bench. It's either Martial or Rashford.

We should win this comfortably. Expect the same line up as last week but I would like to see Martial get a start ahead of Rashford, I thought Rashford was very good last week but Martial has looked good in pre season and had a good cameo and got a goal last week so think he deserves a chance.

Had a nightmare last night. We lost the game 2-0. For some reason, a sumo scored a dodgy goal on us and we hit the bar 17 times.

Some posters "like to see" this and that here.

One thing that we will see for sure is a pre-match meltdown at the Caf, as Lingard will be starting.
