I'd be fully behind a switch to a 3 man midfield for this one, heart says bring Herrera in for Mata head says Jose will more than likely go to Fellaini instead

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Valencia--Bailly--Jones--Darmian
    -------Fellaini-------Matic-------
    Mhkitaryan---Pogba---Rashford
    ---------------Lukaku---------------

Subs: Romero, Smalling, Lindelof, Carrick, Herrera, Mata, Martial
Look, with a three man midfield we play 4-3-3, not the usual 4-2-3-1. Pogba's not positioned as a #10, he's on the right of midfield in 4-2-3-1 and on the usually on the left of 4-3-3.

Strange lineup from Stoke today, can't believe Martins Indi is going to play there. Only four centerbacks there, surely not enough.

Important that we use the wide-players a lot - Stoke are really good centrally, much weaker on the flanks. 3-5-2 With Shawcross, Zouma, Cameron defensively with Fletcher and Allen in front of them is solid. But with Shaqiri probably out, I don't fear Stoke on counter-attacks. Correction...saw that Shaqiri is back! Oh well...

So high pressure....preventing Stoke-corners...and we should have a more than decent chance

He's playing today, so why wouldn't he play against us.

For this game i would love to see us start with martial on left, lukaku up front, Mikhitaryan on right. Play mata centrally. And rest the same. Hope we can have a clean sheet and 3 goals.

Can I just say I hate playing Stoke. Can't stand them and don't like Mark Hughes.

    Any win will do.

Think this will be another 2-0 to United. Probably the trickiest game left before Liverpool.

Got to hope maybe Jose can get that 4th signing ready for stoke, unlikely but you never know. Its going to be another frustrating patient tough performance. Stoke won't be able to use strength or height for this game, since we have those tools to combat it and over power it. But a new signing would be a huge boost for this team to give us that edge we need

Jese and Shaqiri against our fullbacks will be very dangerous. We will do really well if we go away with a win.

Trust Jose. He has the international break to analyse the opposition. We will deal with them.

This is a tough one and Stoke have a very tall team also....I do think there could be changes for this one with maybe Darmian and Herrera coming in for Blind, and Mata...

I think Mourinho will revert to a 3 man midfield, but don't know if he will use Fellaini or Herrera..

I am going for a 3-1 in this one, but I may change if we come back from Internationals with some injuries, but I certainly hope not...

I think we'll see Fellaini or Herrera start this one instead of Mata, probably not much else unless there are injuries prior. It isn't purely reactive to Stoke either, Fellaini will have earned a start on merit from his contributions from the bench, while Herrera being one of our best players last season is always going to get plenty of game time at some stage. He's also going to be extremely fresh with only one substitute appearance and no international call up.

12 days to go before this match. :(

Just hope everyone comes back still fit after the internationals.

It's going to feel like ages until this match comes around. Damn international break.

I'm fairly confident we'll win and I haven't felt like that in a while.

Hopefully we don't get any injuries while they're away on international duty. I wouldn't be surprised to see us go with a 3 in midfield.

Looks like Smalling and Victor might get some minutes to prepare them for Basel
Maybe we will stick with these two in the CL and play Bailly and Jones in the PL. It all depends on their performance in the first CL game. If they perform badly, Bailly and Jones may start playing CL games too.

This! I still think we need to be mobile in midfield.

I can see Lingard against Basel but Mata against Stoke.

    Smalling in for Jones.
Don't think we'll change the cb pairing though, especially away against one of the tallest side in the league

I find this video from r/soccer quite interesting though as we've scored some goals from set piece this season, this is why I think Fellaini will play

No not particularly, I just think we might go a bit more defensive away from home at a tough ground, be a little more cautious with our approach.
So you don't buy the theory Mourinho isn't going to change the lineup until we lose?

Internationals are a pain in the ass. We were just building up a head of steam.

I can understand dropping Mata for someone but not for Fellaini. We'd be playing to their strengths then. No need for that unless we're chasing a result and need an extra big body. As it is, we'd have plenty of size to compete with them. I'd rather we go for a fast counter attack setup, with Martial and Rashford both starting. That's how you give their defenders genuine problems, not by sticking on another big body they can match up with easily.

No, he already changed Martial in for Rashford in the last game and I just think he'll go with that extra defensive stregth away at Stoke, not saying I favour it over Blind playing, just my guess.

Yeah, but Martial had minutes to show himself, not Darmian. I think he has changed the criteria, he will now stick to a player until we have problems collectively or due to his performance. Another thing, probably more important, that might come into play will be the amount of international games they'll have and the physical condition they'll arrive in.

I'm on their forum sometimes since I inexplicably drafted 3 Stoke players in my massive fantasy league and they need a RWB literally more than any Prem team needs anything. Glen Johnson apparently was their worst player last year and the lovely Mame Brian Diouf openly hates playing there and is on the verge of constantly giving up penalties but is still considered their best option. I have no earthly clue as to why they haven't brought in a proper wingback

Surely the absolute perfect game to wheel him out for. They're not quite the oafs of Pulis' days, but they still have a lot of height and power to deal with.
Fellaini, Matic, Pogba and the two centre backs, not to mention Lukaku is enough to deal with them.

See I think that plays into their hands. They would be well set to deal with hoofs and high crosses. I don't think they're as well prepared for fast counters and attackers running right at them. I can see why you'd sit Mata but I think doing it for Fellaini doesn't do enough to attack their weaknesses.

Feck me, already an international break? Fully expecting a few weird threads popping up because people are bored.
