Lingard is such a pointless player, takes five touches to turn runs to the nearest player and passes to him while drawing his marker along the way and congesting the area. Screams for the pass back and does the same, rinse and repeat.

A bit unlucky in that he struggles at RB and we haven't given him a run at CB. Also he isn't exactly playing in a team with a lot of defensive protection.
Both Gomez and Solanke have done well tonight.
He's made for that RCB berth. I think you should use him as a CB or DM, train him up in that role. Defensively, he's going to be up there with Ashley Cole. Has a great feel for the game defensively and has the athleticism and discipline to match. On the ball he's composed, but lacks that silk to be a full back full time.

Character, heart, desire.

Good teams take this for granted as part of their qualities. For other teams it's the only thing they have, and the only thing they think they'll need.

(Not bashing the Irish in particular here - in terms of qualities my own national team has absolutely zero)

His attitude after losing the ball said it all for me.

We may have lost 5-1 and play terrible football but we're more entertaining than England.

Lingard is such an important squad player for England. His ability to run around and be local is underrated.

England have fully embraced the fact that they're not very good. That in of itself is a step forward in the english psyche IMO.

I'd say his strongest attributes are his link up plays with his team mates in the form of handshakes and the 'blowing the imaginary trumpet' celebration. Absolutely world class.

What the pundits don't seem to realise, when they are getting excited about drawing against Germany and Brazil, is that those 2 teams treat it like what it is. It's a friendly, an exhibition match, to them. As long as they don't get embarrassed, they aren't particularly bothered about the result.

The pundits seem to think it matters, it doesn't, it's irrelevant.

Come the World Cup, they will both swat us aside, if we even get that far.

Thought England out of possession tonight were exceptional, in possession a wee bit wasteful, a lot of young players in this and the Germany game which is great to see. A good springboard for the future as long as these guys get plenty of PL gametime.
Which probably won't happen I'm sad to say

Surprised he isn’t starting at CB for Liverpool given they always seem to have at least one total mug in the two.
At a loss too. Think its because that knee injury halted his progress and they've been trying to figure out where to play him when he returned. Hope his versatility doesn't haunt him, needs a fixed position at this age and to grow in that role.

Brazil were taking that game as a serious warm up for the WC. They started their best eleven and subbed on 3 players all of which were the first rotation options in their first eleven.

We had a very experimental squad with lots of young players, they did well all things considered. Nothing to get excited about but some encouraging signs with the young players and Southgate’s willingness to give them a shot.

McClean summed up in ten seconds. Makes a kamikaze run where there is no chance of success, emotion and effort like nobody else, then blasts a woeful shot 40 yards high and out.

Edit: Sorry, spoke too soon obviously, he even lets Bendtner get involved in the fun
McClean. I know he’s not Messi. But. Love the guy.

To be fair, I think Brazilians did play almost full team and did want to win. Maybe not with full passion, but still they did try to win it and score. At least the players on the pitch could easily score 2 or 3.
But England did some good defending.

To be fair to him, he's been great this year.
Playing for Rosenborg in Norway, and pretty much been scoring for fun here.

But i do understand why people who only saw him in the PL say this about him though :)
Had the misfortune (and bewilderment) of watching his cameo role at Juve and saw him for Wolfsburg as a few times as well, turned on Forest as well one Sunday morning and couldn't believe thats where he ended up. One of those really annoying footballers that you can't tend to avoid on Twitter either with the same crap being retweeted constantly at one point.

We're going to turn into a crap national team as soon as Pepe and Ronaldo go. We've been overperforming for 20 years and the average quality of our players is a lot worse than the average quality of players from countries that have had worse results than us.

Germany vs France was such a snoozefest , pretty bad game technically and tactically to be honest , german midfield looked pretty weak .is Khedira still a starter for them? and what the heck is Gundogan doing in this team ? he played like 20 games in the last two years right..
I still still think Brazil Spain or Portugal will win the WC.

Yes, Tite took this match seriously and I’m personally glad we drew. This gives Tite something to improve on. We had a lot of possession but with nothing to show for it. Not much in the way of creativity or width for that matter.

Would be sad to see Holland and Portugal vanishing a bit. I always was under the impression that the Portuguse u-x teams do will though, no brilliant talents upcoming?
