He's just turned 17, Jose gave him his debut. He's no Rooney give it a rest.
These days players have become very impatient. Pogba left for Juve and Pereira left on loan to Valencia against Mourinho's wishes. Pereira, Lingard, Tuanzebe, TFM are a few who are barely getting game time at United. Lingard I guess gets played from time to time and obviously looking at them, I don't see Angel Gomes getting any time either. He's 5'3 which does not fit the template of a quintessential attacker that Mourinho is looking for. And I agree he's no Rooney. When Rooney burst onto the scene, he was the best young player by far. Rooney was equivalent to Mbappe in my opinion. Anyway, maybe we could just loan him out to Dortmund for 2 years instead and let him get the game time he needs.

They arent trying to do that, they are signing players on a free to turn them back round and sell them to the same club for tens of millions in a couple of years time.

Its not developing talent, its exploiting young players.
Maybe we should try to copy that model - except we should alter that last part about selling the best players for tens of millions. Maybe we... keep the best ones for ourselves?

If you think the Mkhi, Mata and Lingard performances have been dross just wait until you see a clueless 17 year old in the team!

Unless these kids are world beaters, get them out the door! Once they develop, buy them back if they're good enough. Would Pogba be half the player if he'd stayed with us? Who knows..
Clueless 17 year old? Gomes is the biggest talent to emerge since Ravel and Pogba. I’m not sure how he would perform if given 15-20 minutes here and there. All I know is he hasn’t got some big of a task, since Lingard offers basically nothing.

That second paragraph is such an unreasonable thinking, if we operated that way we would have something like 2-3 players coming through in the next 50 years. Pogba was a costly mistake, another one like that would be incompetence of the highest order.

No that'd be Rashford.

Gomes is a talented youngster, who isn't ready for a seasons of EPL action as yet. I'd say that fans need to allow the club to develop players the right way, not think they know better or go on a moanathon about an unsubstantiated news article.

He could easily be bad as our own black whole in Mkhi in recent games, to bad he doesnt fit criteria to get a chance to look clueless on the pitch.

No that wouldn't be Rashford, not in my opinion at least. Half of the United fans probably didn't know Rashford until he made his debut for the first team, Gomes is touted as bigger talent and rightly so, making his debut at 16 last season.

And yes I agree he isn't ready for a season of EPL, nobody said he should start and harbor our title hopes. But like I said some minutes in some games that go to a nothing player like Jesse Lingard can easily be given to Gomes.

Fans do allow the club to do whatever they like, it's just that mistakes happen. We lost Pogba very easily and spent a fortune on bringing him back, I hope we learned our lesson that is all.

Just because Manchester United is big on youth doesn't mean that the manager is. It was said of Moyes that he once told the reserve staff at Everton that he didn't have time for them besides the Rooney one. Unlike Fergurson and LvG that made it a point of duty to burden themselves with the matters of the youth, I don't how a young players can look at José and think he'll be giving a fair crack in 2 years, even if he gets better
I doubt we've got much chance of keeping our outstanding young players with Jose in charge. They know they have nothing to look forward to.

Ah ok so you did a survey and found out half of all United fans didn't know who Rashford was, but obviously as Gomes is such a huge talent, we all know who he is.... Rashford the Goldenboy runner up who obviously can't be classed as the biggest talent since Pogba. I can't really count Morrison, as he's wasted his career, by believing his agent was looking after his best interests and being a bit of a knob.
.
Gomes is 5ft 3", he's built like a very young teenager. He by no means is certain to make it in the game. The club are doing the right thing by him and allowing him to develop physically and as a player.

Blaming Lingard is a very tedious Caf thing right now. I hope it ends soon, a nothing player who scores in cup finals

Was Pogba a mistake? Would he have been allowed to develop here? Or would we have another Pereira on our books? Who knows... The player who left was a totally different player to the one we bought. Would Moyes and LvG have risked their jobs for footballer development? Footballers have to play to improve obviously, and how much can they learn on short loan spells and in reserve/u19/21/23 games?

Top talents with obvious qualities can be brought into the first team, but the rest? Ship em off! Otherwise we're wasting their time and ours.

Yeah I did a survey and you such a smart ass. Also those who followed the youth team will say Rashford was very highly rated as was James Wilson, but Gomes is being talked up and making waves in the youth teams couple of years back. It shows what an exceptional talent he is, it doesn't mean he will be as good of a player for United of course. His talent is undeniable and whenever I've seen him play it's evident that you don't see that kind of player every year.

Gomes's built is one of the reasons he's being slowly promoted I can imagine, but it's not the deciding factor. Nobody is blaming Lingard, contrary it's become a thing to defend Lingard against anything, some think it makes them bigger fans by defending average players in spite of there shortcomings.

Sometimes, all a young player needs is an assurance that the management of the first team is consciously and intentional about creating a pathway into the first team as he progressively develops his trade.

I really don't know how people come to conclusions that these players are demanding first team football at United immediately. They are not that thick.

Just because Manchester United is big on youth doesn't mean that the manager is. These little things matter.
Players got their debut last season. McTominay is in squads. That's enough to encourage the younger players.

Once we start bowing down to 16/17 year olds for game time it's high time we packed our shit. If he goes, he goes.

To be honest it might not be a bad thing to sell him but you put a buyback option in that contract or next season we start loaning him out then sell and put the buy back in as I don’t see him getting in the 1st team till he is at least in his 20’s unless in this next year or two he just goes to a different level.

No some people are decent and don't appreciate people who are supposed to support a team being very unfair to a player within the squad. Try being a decent person, you never know, you may enjoy the experience. Or carry on being a sheep and go with the flock.

Why are we wasting game time on Lingard when we've got Gomes in desperate need for some.
Because one is a first teamer with experience and the other is a 17 year old who hasn’t even played regularly for the reserves yet? Just a thought

I find this very strange. The club clearly rates him very highly. Nicky Butt mentioned him (and only him) by name when discussing the talent in the academy. He is clearly seen as THE prospect in the current United academy. He is also a local lad and has been at the club for years.

He is nowhere near ready for the first team yet. He didn't even start for the England under 17s, has the physicality of a 12 year old but the suggestion is that he is upset about not being involved with the first team?

If he does leave, how likely he will be starting for Dortmund any time soon? How are Hudson Odoi and Punky Brewster getting on in their club's first teams?

It doesn't add up that progression is his issue because it's more likely than not he will transition to the first team in the future. Maybe he feels the quality of coaching at the academy isn't up to scratch and would rather join one with better standards?

You are right. Utd will have many a 'gomes' slip through the net and go to another club and maybe blossom like Pogba, but most will be bog standard or below that. Eagles was supposed to be another superstar, Jones, Cleverley another 2 spoke about highly. Rashford would have probably been still in the reserves, or moved on if we hadnt have had those injuries 2 years ago. Its all about luck, timing and taking your chance when it comes. Who would have thought Drinkwater would have won a premiership?

He is just 17. Let him first play u23 football right now. I'm one of his biggest fan but if he is planning to move then his career is over.

Would never be an issue under Van Gaal. Rightly or wrongly, he would be involved. He may be involved in a team fighting for fourth though, but he’d be involved, along with CBJ, Fosu-Mensah and Pereira I’d imagine.

Sounds like a good idea if you want to be the Borussia Dortmund to Man City's Bayern Munich.

No it isn't
He is incredibly talented but physically not at all developed. People at United know this . If he moved and started playing regularly when his body is yet to develop physically and mentally then when a downside comes he will be fkd. He should be concentrating on getting into the under-23 right now and by then end of next season get some couple of appearance here and there for the first team.

If he is planning to move then all the best to him !

Or he could just develop at another club, hes not going straight into their first team (if he were to leave).

I think there is also enough to discourage them, with the lack of progress for Tuanzebe and Pereira.

What's discouraging for Pereira? He wouldn't have played much games here, so he was loaned out where he playing regularly. Every team loans out player, so can't really hold that against club or coach.

You need to think about the evolution since LVG times. Also the highlighted part could be an issue for some youngsters who may see Pereira as possessing much talent and yet still isn't able to make a dent in even being a regular sub or cup game player having been around the first team setup for 3/4 years.

Not to mention Lingard waited a real long time and a few Championship loans before he was actually given a proper breakthrough

Periera barely played when Van Gaal was manager. Other players got many chances but Pereira barely played.

Players won't play at any big clubs if they think "player X didn't play, so I might not get chance at all:.

Geez, you'd think this club would have learned their lesson after Pogba...
What do you mean by that?

Pogba was 18/19 years old and very mature physically. Gomes even small for his age at 17 years old. What are people expecting the club to do with him if it is indeed true that he wants out?

Or if they maybe believe that a club doesn't have the patience of capacity to integrate more young players in particular positions in the near future.
