How to fall in love with the club again?

I very much doubt they feel the need to prove to the internet, they're just addressing the topic of the thread beyond your own story.

Personally i think many United fans have an unhealthy perspective and most would benefit from supporting a normal team either in football or another sport. It's not all about the good times, this place has forgot how to enioy a victory during difficult times because everything is about being the best.
Be careful of what you post in this thread or risk being called a Top Red (whatever that means). Unless you have mutual feelings as the OP, your point is invalid because you're just trying to show off what a bloody Top Red you are. Christ...

Funny, I rarely see TopRed ever used on this forum. The only time i've seen it lately was myself using it to describe how some cling onto defending Lingard as a TopRed thing. So this is a strange post.

I would say I haven’t fallen out of love with the club, more just the activity of watching our matches. I’ll still watch every televised game but I’m not too fussed trying to stream one like I would have a few years ago.
To be honest when I had a season ticket during LVG’s final season there were a few of the lesser games that I just started missing if it was a miserable day and the trams were acting up. I was also sat by myself amongst some really obnoxious fans so that didn’t help. The ‘mate why didn’t he turn and switch it 40 yards. I would have done that’ type.

Okay, that's something which (has) happened to, I guess, about 90% of us.

Watching United after Ferguson's retirement hasn't been the same and there was a time when you realised that. You didn't feel the magic, you felt that it's not your team.
This has to just apply to fans too young to remember life before Ferguson? There's an awful lot of us remember life under previous managers! Maybe we're under-represented on here?

‘Falling out of love’ with the club is caused by one of 2 things or both.

1. Foreign/overseas fans that don’t really have much connection with the club because they have never been to a live match. If they have then they are few and far between.

2. Fans that have supported the club from 1992 onwards that have only known success, which has made them spoilt. All the winning has made them bored, or the lack of winning the past few years has put them off.

This may be controversial, but for me they are not true fans. How can they be? The first point, most of them fans (not all) have a very small connection with the club. The second point, we should support the club through thick and thin and always love the club no matter what.

If you fall out of love with the club over anything small then did you really love the club in the first place?

Unless the club funds terror, supports any kind of discrimination etc then that is a reason to fall out of love with the club.

Being disillusioned with the money spent and the money circulating in football is not falling out of love with United. It is being disillusioned with what football has turned into in general.

Or on a harsher note: If your love for the club wavers then here's some news for you - You don't love the club. Loving the club is unconditional. There will always be ups and downs, just like there always has been. Things can be hard, like when we just couldn't win the league and it had been years or when we appointed obviously the wrong man (Moyes). These times are hard, but supporting players wearing that shirt is what comes first, last and always.

I am fan of United for almost two decades, which means I haven't watch united before Sir Alex.
What I love about this club is the feeling that the club creates in the opponents that something lethal is coming. Something that is very hard to beat. It's the magic of United. I never lost my love in United. Yeah, I had doubts for some games like every one of us.

I agree it was very painful to watch United last four seasons, but this is not because of the club. I think Moyes, LVG and Mourinho just don't understand really why this club is so great. It's club that is build on lethal attacking style, fast movement of the ball, never ending will to crash the opponent, fight to the last second. It's a club that requires strong mentality which Moyes never had, a club that LVG can never understand because it's not about statistics, a club that always fights for the win and not making the Mou's butcher calculations for fragile 0-0/1 results.

Yes, we had drops and downs with sir Alex, we have lost painfully a lot of matches against rivals, or key finals, but never, ever we have lost playing without fight.

I don't think the managers after sir Alex understand, really what is this club about.
And every fan of the club who really understands what this club is about can never loose his love for the club.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English, it's not my native languаge.

Ha ha, Fair do's! Hope it picks up

Thing is, it's not like you can have a sordid affair with a Championship team on the side to spice things up. Maybe the "love" analogy doesn't quite fit?!

I'm going to have to disagree with your first point mate. Of course there are foreign fans who supported the club due to the successful Fergie years, but my guess is that a lot of those gloryhunting fans probably don't support this club anymore. On the other hand, a lot of foreign fans would first have started supporting the club when a favourite player of theirs, often from their own country, signed for the club. The latter was especially true for me, as I gradually fell in love with United following Park's signing. So while you're right in that while most foreign fans would begin supporting the club with little to no real connection to United, over time, most foreign fans also come to foster a deep connection with the club.

So to say certain fans are not 'true' fans simply because they haven't attended a live match is ridiculous and dare I say it, snobbish. These foreign fans often put in just as much, if not more effort following and supporting United, often having to wake up in the middle of the night to watch our matches. But these fans, despite the long distances between them and Old Trafford, similarly share in all the sorrows, the joy and passion of supporting United, just as much as the match-going fans; they're just as real a fan as anyone else.

TL;DR: You shouldn't be labelled a 'fake' fan just because you're a foreign fan.

I think that you're all right.

And these two... it shows that you can't discuss here, because some people only see this thread as their chance to "prove" they're true Reds... :houllier:
not so... my answer is an answer. tell me how you can be a supporter and not love the club

What does it mean? You can stop loving your beloved club? The club who many consider more than just a football club including me? Really!
Someone please stop this place from being like this!
Whatever happens to our club you just can't stop loving it or supporting it or even following it. For me since 98 when I followed the club it's very rare i missed games, through thick and thin.

The amount of kurwas that I've thrown around today hasn't happened for a while watching United for a couple of years, great stuff.

Bump.

Nice to read my own posts and some others after 18 months.

Well, the answer is easy. You need to have someone who realises what Manchester United means to its fans - me, you, us and them.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly realises it and - you can say that once we get three points, the love has come back - I feel he's one of those who can lose games, but you feel it's your team that you're watching. I can even watch us losing the games, but the excitement, with Ole back in the dugout, is back.

I feel like the sentiments of Sir Alex Ferguson's farewell speech were spot on but simply applied to the wrong person. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right man for this job, I never thought he could be, but man...he just is. I really hope we decide to back him all the way.

When we were down 2-0 against Burnley, I never felt we'd lose it. It just didnt feel like that was it and it would be 2-0. Bit like when we lost 2-1 to Roma in 06/07. Didnt feel like a loss and then we spanked them 7-1.

That to me shows the confidence in the current management that I havent had since Fergie. No matter how bad a position we are in, we're Manchester United and we dont quit.

So it has nothing to do with the 11 game streak?

As you were.

Just buy yourself a City shirt and be done with it. Saves us having to read cringe inducing nonsense like this every time our form shifts.

I get where Maciek is coming from. Having strong belief in the manager (and not just when it comes to results, but to entertain and want the best for the club and its fans too) is surely a big part of being a United fan and it's one of the things that has always given me that nice feeling inside growing up supporting us.
It's not just about form. At one point (well, more than one point) most people were disappointed with the upper management, sick to death of the manager, fed up of the players seemingly not giving their all, and it seemed like there wasn't much to want to get behind. There's no shame in admitting that.

It has nothing to do with form. It has everything to do with who is the manager. Obviously, you still love the club, you're just pissed off with it. You're pissed off with every single performance, nothing ever changing and just want the manager gone and you get annoyed and frustrated because you care. Feeling the joy and happy love again and not having it before under Mourinho doesn't make anyone less of a supporter. Just that they weren't happy with the situation and needed change.

We are still only fourth...

It feels very different though, even if I didn’t share OP sentiments. When we played well under LvG (the 4 games streak in late 14/15) or Mourinho, you can never quite say that was Manchester United football, but this is. The quick passing, the breaks, balls zipping on the ground, it feels right.

I feel like since Ole has come in i have that exciment back. I cant wait for the next game. The football hasnt been this good for years even through SAF later seasons. I have to say the summer we got Mourinho, Pogba ,Zlatan, Miki and bailly i was over the roof same as when LVG came in with Di maria and Falcao i really thought that it will come good but with time and the dull football i couldnt care less about missing important things in my life for united where before i would had always had United as my priority. We couldnt ask for another manager than Ole. He has all the right criterias to be our gaffer. It suddendly feels like the real united we fell in love with again

YESHHHHH, We'll GOOO for it.
I was being a bit grumpy, the title felt a bit gloryhuntish. But the OP is more nuanced.
For sure Adex. I don't know if I agree with the title or with the OP, but I've felt an additional pull to the club ever since OGS took over. I've still managed to watch the matches but now I look forward to it. I am a part of a Whatsapp group with few of the RedCafe posters here and they will tell you I'm insanely optimistic but I think the results has nothing to do with the wins but just getting rid of the moaning and whinging and everyone looking to be a part of one team and being happy. Just like under SAF

I don't love the club more, per se, but I love the fact that we have a manager in Ole who plays attacking football and is a die-hard supporter, like us. He understands the ethos of the club, is a genuinely nice guy, the squad is happier, the fans are happier, and all of this combined means that the experience of supporting the club is more enjoyable than it was under other grumpier and detached management .

What does again mean anyways, once you love its for life, sure you get pissed once in a while cause love is whats makes us feel all the shitty feeling we had to endure for so long, one does not simply abandon love, sure you can take a vacation but you never leave a family. If not there is blue wall across the town.
