I remember that Pogba didn't play very often and people were surprised about that. I remember people were surprised when Pogba was sold.

What was the reasons for that happening? That I don't remember.

He wanted to play, we had about a thousand injuries to our midfield so he had a great opportunity to play, SAF instead played fullbacks in midfield instead of him as he was upset at his agent.

Pogba wasn't sold he left on a free for reasons mentioned in above post. He should have been given chances and wasn't.

He didn't sell him. He left at the end of his contract after deciding not to sign a new one, since he wanted game time - which he was promised at Juventus.

He chose to leave after we played Rafael and Park in midfield rather than give him a shot. I think SAF became a bit too reluctant to play young players by the end. He knew he was winding down soon, and wanted to go out with a title and so relied a bit too much on established players. The Sir Alex of 2004 would likely have given Pogba far more starts.

This.

I think I remember us having a bit of an injury crisis in central midfield before a game against Blackburn. SAF decided to play the likes of Rafael and Park there (I think), which was the final straw.

No manager is perfect and this was a huge mistake from Ferguson. Saying that, who knows what would have happened if he played on and Ferguson were replaced by Moyes? For all we know, Pogba could/would have been sold to Real Madrid for 60M and we would never see him again. By buying him for 90M last year when everyone was caught up by the sum itself, we managed to get him back and do not find ourselves in a position where Real Madrid could take him from us. His sum now would be impossible for Real to pay.

So an expensive mistake, but perhaps one we were lucky to make? I believe we would have sold Pogba after Moyes took the handles, no way would Pogs want to play for him.

I remember SAF saying Pogba’s agent was having a fairly negative influence on him and persuading him to move for some time. I think the Blackburn game was a convenient excuse - similar to that Rooney ‘I was played out of position’ thing

He wasn't sold. He left on a Bosman with a compensation deal, which was pocket change to United. Fergie did what he could to keep him. He sent Evra and Rio to his house to talk him in to staying. Allegedly Paul Pogba was in tears with Rio, saying he wanted to stay but a deal was already done with Juve. What else could Fergie do? When a deal runs out on a youth player, it's very difficult to keep them if their head has been turned, especially if they've got an agent like Riaola, who is always focused on the next move.

He didn't, so your question is invalid.

I'll blame SAF for not giving him more chances though, as at this time our midfield was atrocious that we need to return Scholes to sort it out. He should have given more chances, but he didn't sell him at all and tried to keep him. It was POGBA who wanted to leave and Raiola advised him to do so, and tbh it was the right move for him.

I find it amazing how despite having loads of world class players at the club and only having one forced out of our club by Madrid that it's seen as such a huge threat.

Perhaps Pogba wouldn't have become the player he has become or left for good if this didn't happen. Things tend to work out in the end. I think this was destiny.

Wasn't his agent also looking for a ridiculous wage for a youngster who hadnt played any first team football?

He'd of been worth it in retrospect. He was great for Juve from the off.

It was a blessing in disguise really... as an eariler post states, if he's broken through after about 5 years he'd maybe of wanted to leave and experience other things in the game.

As it stands he's had great experiences with Juve and will be a better player for that. He moved back to united with a point to prove and will likely become captain and stay fir his career now.

I couldn't care less if the club had to shell out 90m. United make loads of money and if it doesn't get spent the glazers can get their mits on even more.

OK, let me rephrase...why didn't Sir Alex see Pogba's potential, and do everything to integrate him into the team? We went for those years with a lame midfield, why?

You've answered most of the questions, but it is interesting. (letting him go on a free and then buying him back for 90M is worse, btw)

He did. He just didn't think he was ready at the time.

Ever since ppgba left and the rise of Rashford & now Lingard I have had the feeling that we are underestimating quite a lot of the players in our reserves.

It's just as well he was sold/allowed to leave - if he'd stayed he'd doubtless be on loan at Valencia right now.

A subject well explained by fellow members. Just want to talk about young player wanting games. I believe Pogba was not the 1st (in)famous incident at that time because there was Pique and Rossi, although they left in good terms. Soon afterwards there were many unhappy academy products leaving for greener pasture, such as De Byrune, Lukaku, Salah (OK, Salah did have a few games, better than the rest); and Wenger did a sting on Fabregas. So I suppose managers (involved), players themselves, and their agent, really don't see much of this come and go then reunion business, and are willing to sit down and talk like business

Ridiculous that Pogba and his agent felt that was the final straw. It was a turning point in football for me. When teenagers are leaving clubs like United something has gone wrong with the game.

Tbf looking back his agent made the right call ans advice in regards to his client.

Considering where he ends up now. Back in Manchester united as a record signing and status of a star player.

It was the right decision for pogba, awful for united

He wasn't value highly and hasn't been given a fair chance to play in our shite midfield, he left and made a big impact elsewhere. I'd say it was Fergie fault of not seeing his potential could be realized so soon.

Imo, Pogba leaving United was the best decision he made for himself.

The fact that he left for a team with an even superior midfield to ours shows that it was a football decision. He wasn't on much money at Juve either. I remember Fergie saying we had matched what Juve were paying him and he still wanted to leave.

I respect that sort of self belief and it made him a better player for it. So kudos to him.

He may still become as good, but history may turn out very different. I meant after SAF retired we got Moyes, then LVG. The former had no clue, which many of our senior players got pissed off. LVG with his philosophy likely be a bad fit for Pogba style. In short Pogba may end up spending his prime at other clubs in that scenario. Right now, he has point to prove. Kinda blessing in duiguise situatiom.

I remember the game against Blackburn when we had no fit cm's and Fergie choose to play Park and Rafael in the middle instead of Pogba ,that must been a slap in the face for him.

Pure stubbornness having left rooney out as punishment too.
We lost and that was a killer blow

Maybe we can talk about why Tevez was sold.

Tevez was never sold, because he was never bought. Tevez was on loan from Westham and somehow Fergi thought he was too expensive, or not so useful, or the under table deal was too doggy to get involved with.

Why don't you remember how Fergie was pissed off with Raiola?

Pogba wanted money and he wanted to play. He wasn't patient. He demanded too much, was too confident for an 18-year-old. Having Raiola as your agent didn't help, as well. Raiola had certainly too much to say.

I think that it was the reason Ferguson wanted to let him go as he didn't like such arrogance and such agents.

Playing with Pirlo and Vidal in a dominant Juventus team probably helped him greatly in becoming the player he is, as he could focus on the attacking aspects of his game, in a clear role. He also played in a slower league, which is easier for a player with his style.

If he were made to play in a midfield two with Carrick in the PL from the start he may not have been as dominant, and it could have affected his confindence.
