Why do Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arse get no pressure from the media?

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
We're currently 2nd and constantly hear stories of with the same narrative of 'failing Utd' in the media...

But, we're 6 points clear of last year's runners up, Spuds. We're 6 points clear of Arsenal, 5 points clear of Liverpool and a point ahead of last year's PL champions Chelsea!

What's going on with this lads? Why the feck aren't these other clubs receiving even a fraction of the pressure and negative press that we do!?

And why the feck isn't this being brought up anywhere else?

We're halfway through the season and above Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Arse - and last year we finished 6th! Why isn't our press talking about the amazing improvement we've had?

And more to the point why aren't these other teams below us getting ANY pressure!?

At the weekend when Kane broke the scoring record him and Pochettino were all smiles and pats on the back from the media, and it's like, 'hang on a minute, these clowns were last season's runners up - and they're now 21 points behind the PL leaders, and it's no issue!'

Whereas Utd, finishing in 6th last season, are 15 points behind them and it's literally repeated on every footy show and article over and over again, with our manager being treated like he's a failure.

This needs to be addressed, and we need to start standing up for our club on it, because it's fecking laughable.

Money. They are less rich and invested less so they are less likely to compete. Chelsea is not the same obviously but they won 2 of the past 4 titles which will obviously give you some leeway.

Liverpool and Chelsea spend a fecking shitload, so no, I'm not buying that for a second.

And we won 2 trophies last season as well, but that seems to buy us no leeway in the slightest.

Because we are the biggest club in the country.

Media writing about us sells more and more clicks.

My guess is that the fact you are a Manchester United fan plays a large role in that.

Liverpool have gone almost 28 years without the title and are on a run of one trophy in almost 12 years. Their recent history is hilariously pathetic.

I imagine they don't get as much pressure because nobody expects them to really do anything anyway. Same goes for Spurs and to a certain extent Arsenal too. Chelsea have won 2 of the last 3 titles so that protects them from OTT criticism probably.

Marketing. We are the biggest club in the world, at least one of them. Possibly the biggest sports enterprise in the world. No one wants to read about spurs.

Because no one care about them.

That's the reason I wanted Chelsea to win it last year, and hate the fact City is winning it this year. Chelsea win the title and everyone forget them 2 days later, but on the contrary no one will stop talking about Pep fecking Guardiola winning the league.

It's relative obviously. Nobody argues that Liverpool and Arsenal are not spending, the argument is that it is dwarfed by us. If City did not compete this year, they would have received the same treatment. Chelsea won the league, it's obviously a much bigger indication of quality than what we won. Wenger won 3 of the past 4 FA Cups and you don't see him getting much love-in do you? LvG was slaughtered having won an FA Cup.

The other reason is what Bojan said, we sell. The likes of us, Real, Barcelona generate clicks. The day of the FA Cup draw, unless a big clash is on, it's our tie that will make the headlines. This means that when things are going well, we get extra praise and when they are not, we get slaughtered. Every super club in the planet get the same treatment.

Honestly it all comes down to Mourinho. The guy sells papers and gets clicks.

Conte is luckily boring and tends to be as professional.

They're not the most successful club in English history. Considering it's also very recent invites a lot of scrutiny

Because we are one of the biggest clubs in the world; we are a genuine super club like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona.

The media play off the fans, and the fans expect Utd to win the league regularly.

Last year's PL champions though?

When José won the PL at Chelsea and then flopped the season afterwards, it's all anyone was talking about...

I would be very interested to know what the points gap was between his Chelsea side and Foxes at New Year, and this current Chelsea side and Citeh right now...

If it's less of a gap then you basically have proof that the media is genuinely anti-Mourinho, as well as clearly being anti-Utd.

Jose didnt just flop the season, he had Chelsea near the relegation zone halfway through the season. That's why the headlines were all about that.

I don't think United are the only ones receiving criticism.

If we had lost tonight or conceded a stupid last minute equaliser, our fans would be in meltdown and the papers would be tearing into Wenger tomorrow over Ozil and Sanchez.

Our next loss will see us get torn to pieces by the media.

Because who really gives a shit about all those other little Clubs below us?
It affects the club though. It affects the amount of pressure that manager is under, and it creates a negative atmosphere around the club.

It isn't fair that all these other clubs are basically avoiding any pressure for letting citeh run away, when they've done worse than us!

It's just that we've spent the past quarter century being top dogs, constantly making headlines. It's as @Bojan11 says, it's very easy to write about us and receive a lot of coverage.

The media does very little to tear down Arsenal; because Arsenal's own's fans do it far better.

Arsene Wenger has been deserving of the sack for many years yet the media will rarely have any of it. This is because Wenger has the media in his pocket due to his power at Arsenal; if you put out a story Wenger doesn't like you lose your 'priviliges' with the club.

Exactly. As an Arsenal fan I find the media spends an inordinate amount of time on Arsenal-in-Crisis stories.

No, it's not just that as United fans we're more keyed into United's press.

Last year's runners up are 21 points behind the PL leaders, last years PL champions are 16 points behind, and they receive a fraction of the criticism we do, despite us finishing 6th last season.

Don't get as many clicks or sell as many papers. That's all there is to it. Even City's phenomenal success and potentially record breaking season is less news than United doing badly.

On Football365, if they don't have a negative Jose story to hand, they use an anti-Mourinho mailbox quote as their main feature.

Which we're not, as stated above!
Media often look at social media and fan sites for headlines; they want to gauge the fan sentiment.

At the moment; there is a fan meltdown because City are running away with the league and playing more entertaining football. So the media will react accordingly.

Chelsea fans are already used to not winning the league the season after they won it; Arsenal fans have mainly accepted that they are stuck in this mediocrity until the club is restructured. Tottenham is a small club, so their fans do not expect to be challenging.

I would say firstly you are far more attuned to the comments about Man Utd than you are about other clubs. All these other clubs receive criticism and pressure. You just don't notice it because you're not bothered by it.

So there's been lots of media about strife within the Chelsea camp and Conte leaving or being fired. All of the usual stuff with Arsenal and Wenger. Klopp and his defence. The media trying to sell off every single one of our players who's half decent and insinuating we're basically running a sweat shop in North London.

The flip side of that is of course you're going to bloody receive more criticism. Why is Zidane's job currently at risk but Simeone's and Calleja's not? Because one is managing Real Madrid and one is managing Villareal/ Atletico.

Similarly, here, one team is Man Utd, the team which has comprehensively dominated the past 25 years in English football, with one of the most expensive squads ever assembled, with a manager who has a history of winning (and is one of the two highest paid managers in the world) and looks to be the only team which can currently match Man City for spending in this league. People expect Man Utd to be competing for the title. They don't expect the two North London clubs for example to be doing so on a yearly basis.

You have to suck it up and accept that is just a consequence of the stature of the club, the money you spend, the manager you have and the expectations within the club.

You honestly expect Poch or Klopp to be judged to the same standards as Mourinho?

It's situational. Going out of the League Cup, drawing to Leicester and Burnley while City pull even further ahead and everyone else gains points on us. That's pretty bad and is going to cause more of a stir than any other 'news'. Probably even more than Liverpool breaking the record transfer for a CB, and that's the point.

I expect last year's runners up to be judged at least equally to last year's 6th place, yes.

And I think Klopp should be judged easily to the same standards as José yeah! He's been there longer, spent loads, won utterly nothing and gets a fraction of the pressure.

Its all in the numbers. We've won more prem titles than all those sides combined. We're expected to win where as the others its a hope they win. We've moved in the latter category in recent years and that change was always going to spark all this reaction.

1. Chelsea net spend was about 30M last summer and in a huge profit for the whole year 2017. The amount of money received from transfers was bigger than the amount spent - that's an ideal.
2. The media expected us to collapse. Due to some "horrible transfers" like of Lukaku, Matic and Costa and especially Conte's future. They ran a headline of Conte possible depart every fecking day.
3. Pellegrini won the league = sack, Ranieri won the league = sack, Mourinho won the league = sack. People expected to see how Conte not get sacked than win the league again.
4. If Chelsea win the league this year, it will be 3 titles in 4 years. Nobody expects it and noboby wants it (except Chelsea fans). It didn't happen since Sir Alex retired. Not possible in current premier league era. So a top 4 finish aftet winning the league is not bad.
5. Chelsea till in top 4, not being collapsed as the media guested. Some great performances displayed. The team are just not as consistent as last year. But as long as Chelsea till in top 4, it's okay.

We rarely get praised let alone extra praise.
