new will smith movie. What do you make off it?

Once I got over the premise of it I enjoyed it. The 2 main characters had good rapport

Decent watch. Was watching an interview with Will Smith and he was saying a cross between Traininday and Lord of the rings which is pretty accurate. Felt like there was a lot more scope for a story with the idea. It probably could have worked as a franchise if they hadn’t just blown their load in that final sprint finish.

It was alright, go into it not expecting much and it is a decent watch.

Hear they have already greenlighted a sequal.

Enjoyed it. Not brilliant, but certainly not as bad as critics seem to be saying. Might be why I enjoyed it, was expecting a turkey

I liked it. Nice to see semioriginal concept for once.

As for the critics who panned it are they the same people that said the new star wars movie was the dogs bollocks?

As enjoyable as star wars was for me. World seems to have a good amount of depth for the sequel to be alright 7/10.

Nearly a hit.

Too much jumping about with the camera. Still, that's a problem all fecking movies these days.

6.5/10

Why do films do those 100 stupid jumps these days.

It's not the cuts that are the problem. Indiana jones had plenty of cuts. It's the illogical close ups that don't make no sense

I have so many questions..I just kept thinking the crippled homie was the hero of the story.
Why are there handicaps in a world full of magic? That poor man..

Wow. What an amazingly bad movie. Rare to see so many ludicrous moments packed into a single film. Also, did anyone else think it was kind of potty-mouthed? Seemed to have a crazy high number of f-bombs per minutes. What was that all about? And why the hell did he smash that fairy with a broom?

The true north.
See, reading stuff like this makes me convinced the Star Wars backlash has feck all to do with the actual quality of the movie...
Nah, there are "Star Wars" issues I have with the direction they took the story, but there's just tons of dumb and/or unnecessary stuff that would annoy in any movie.

Will Smith being Will Smith again, storyline had no explanation and it was terrible cliche and predictable.

That being said, it was enjoyable enough for a post-Christmas dinner movie.

I loved the beginning and the dynamic between the various species and races.

The main two characters were good and there were some decent bad guys. The two woman and the really quick guy obviously, but also the orcs, the corrupt cops and the gangsters. If only they had been given enough time to feel actually important enough to care about any of them.

But the basic story line was beyond shit. It was tired, badly paced and very unsatisfying in the end. Honestly, everything about this would have been so much better as a series instead of a movie.

Imagine they filmed it as a sort of less serious version of The Wire, giving themselves time to really develop the various groups and personalities. It's a shame because it could have been brilliant.

HDR and 4k made this movie very watchable, indeed.

I liked this:

The premise was, I imagine, a great pitch.. LOTR happened 2000 years ago, and was foundational to modern society, with orcs spat on, elves as the elites, and a buddy cop movie at the centre to ease mainstream in, LA Confidential, smart. You get to do social analogy with the orcs standing in for the racially downtrodden, the elves as the elites, this is classic genre stuff.. the problem: this is Modern America PLUS LOTR, not Modern America BECAUSE OF LOTR.. it feels like fantasy arrived an hour before the movie.

Yeah that's spot on really. They made a total balls of the world building and the racism allegory was far too heavy handed. Also the plot kind of loops around on itself and never really goes anywhere...let's help this 5th Element knock off escape this building and then run away for 45 minutes before going back to the same place to give her a bath. Wut.

I liked it a lot.

I'm not looking for some high racial allegory /satire... I'm looking for a fun movie with an interesting premise that's a bit different... And I got it.

Critics were way too harsh, I mean, worst movie of the year? It's nowhere near that ballpark

I didn't like it but agree, it's not the worst film of the year. No way. That accolade goes to flatliners.

You have to be a pretty dramatic person to think this was the worst movie put out this year. It wasn't really any worse than your average summer blockbuster. It was certainly more enjoyable (to me) than, say, Alien: Covenant.

There were some problems, like the pacing and the world building. Enjoyable overall, though, and I liked the two leads. Not opposed to a sequel as long as they keep those two and sort out the pacing.

Apparently, 11 million people watched it during the weekend. Nielsen, that does TV ratings came up with the number.

That's probably very good, but who knows how close to the actuals are those numbers. Netflix stays silent about it.

Stranger Things got 15.8 million on its first three days, I think its release on a Friday slightly impacted on Nielsen ratings in America and BARB in the UK.

There is potential with Bright. It's got legs, not surprised Netflix has renewed it.
