Should we consider selling the naming rights? I know we cling to tradition, but I think it remains the biggest source of potential income we haven’t yet exploited. It could pay for an additional big signing or two each summer.

We’re already at a disadvantage against the sugar daddy clubs, and I think even Real are selling the Bernabau’s name once it’s redeveloped.

The short answer to that is no. For me the stadium should always be known as the 'Theater of Dreams'. It makes me nostalgic and also proud of being a United fan. I don't want it to be renamed 'Sports Direct Arena' or some equally shitty name.

People still called St James' the same even when it was the Sports Direct Arena.. $ky was forced to call it that but everyone else knew it as going to St James'

So think if we got a good deal I'd do it in a heartbeat. We need the money to make us the best in the world again.

football is now a business, sooner or later you have to give up on old school traditions to move with the times or get left behind on the bus.

Why? We're already loaded. Selling our soul just so we can keep increasing the wages of Fellaini & co doesn't sound too appealing.

Meh, if it meant extra money for transfers etc then yes I'd do it.
I wouldn't suddenly say. Oh I'm going to the Android Arena tomorrow. I'd, like many others would still call it OT.

When a match starts on TV, I wouldn't care if they didn't call it OT.

If it meant the money going to the Glazers, then no

Hell no. Old Trafford remains old Trafford. Glazers are already making enough of this club. How much more money do they want?

 Gotta love these posts.
Well I have a reliable source

I just spoke to Ed.

I said Ed ol' pal what will we get 20m a year or wot?

he said possibly, being cautious I would lean more towards 15m

I then put the numbers into my model and it spat out 17m

Not for me.

I doubt it would be enough money to make it worthwhile anyway. It's not like the club couldn't spend an extra 50m a season if it wanted to.

Sooner or later everybody will sell their naming rights. Why not start sooner?

It's extremely difficult to sell the naming rights of an already established, iconic stadium known throughout the world. As stated above, whatever name was attached to the stadium, it would still be referred to as OT.

Never ever ever ever even consider this. Should be a punishable offence, in my opinion.

How much would we realistically get for this anyway?

Not like an extra £20m\year would mean a lot for us.

The board already ruled it out. Rightfully.

edit: it would also never be enough to fund even a lower level transfer, never mind a star signing.

That's more the point, it wouldn't generate enough money to make it worthwhile upsetting the fans. Knowing us we wouldn't get the top echelon of sponsor either. I can just imagine The Crispy Noodle Stadium.

The only way we would bring in the City sort of money is do what City have done and at the moment I think the Glazers are pretty happy with their little nest egg.

We don’t need the money, but I don’t see why the name of the stadium is regarded as sacred when every other tiny facet of the club now has a corporate partnership.

“Old Trafford, in association with Wragge & Co”

Or BOLD TrafFORD if we considered a dual advertisement with washing powder and cars.

Then they can take it and shove it where the sun don't shine, as the way the market is going we be lucky to get a league 1 player for that and that's what some want to trade our history and tradition for ?

Naming rights to established stadiums don't really work, as people still use the name they know. Nobody called St James Park anything other than that except for commentators/pundits because they had to.

If I remember correctly the board estimated the potential value at £20m per year and ruled it out on the basis that it would reignite fan unrest.

In the extremely unlikely event that we were to build a new stadium it would be a different story.

Selling our soul for a few quid more? No chance.

The Glazers wouldn't even consider it as an option anyway. The fallout of such a sale would be more trouble than it's worth.

Are they going to do anything to the stadium anyway? It needs upgrading as it is starting to look seriously jaded. Also if they want people to come and watch United, provide better safer facilities for them. I would not want to be in that stadium if a fire on something happened, not with the amount of people crammed in such narrow seating. Maybe they are not bothered if anyone goes or not if it is on TV? God knows what is in their minds.

Some things are sacred I reckon. We should never stoop to selling the naming rights to the stadium.

City, PSG and the other oil clubs may be able to buy any player they want, but they can't buy history and class. If we end up selling off our history to keep up them, they've won.

No chance.
Surely the naming rights of the worlds largest footballing brand would amount to more than £17 million. Given the chance to work his magic, Woody could raise a good £25 million a year for a period of 15 years. Wild estimation I admit.

Or am I being overly optimistic?
