I don’t agree. He has an expected goal ratio this season of 4,5 and 4 goals in the PL. I would argue that its harsh to clame that he misses «far too many chances». It needs to improve, but its not that bad for a 20 year old. Most players improve their goal scoring record significantly from 20 to 24ish.

With regards to «dont have knack of being in the right place» he has not played striker either.

Wonder how peo1ple in here would have rated a 20 year old Kane.
Expected goals means nothing though in this case, actual goals do and he's not scoring many of them. He's also missing some very easy chances. If he was better at getting into goalscoring positions he might be able to increase the numbers.

Xpg means nothing compared to the claim that he misses to many chances? Okey...

Noticed that mourinhos been playing him more on the right wing lately when he has come on. Think that's his best chance to develop long term IMO. Left wing he's not on martials level, and up top we have lukaku. So I think he probably needs to learn how to play the right better and Mourinho might be doing that.

when Marcus came on yesterday, he passed a lot when he would usually shoot, Mourinhos had dig at him after the fa cup game.

You dont always need to play in the striker role to show the striker instinct. Many times I have observed there is some tempting cross into the box and Marcus just doesnot have that instinct to attack the ball. No wonder he was behind Fletcher in youth setup for a long time. Other attributes like holding up the ball, link up play and passing in and around the box, is also lacking. The best position for him to develop is wing forward, the central position is just too much for him.

Regarding 20 year old Kane, I think its fair to say only 1% of all highly rated youngsters actually develop into top player like Kane. And Kane was more of a late bloomer. If you think a good player at 20 will go on to become a top top player at 25, then we should be keeping Macheda, Ashley fletcher, Januzaj, Memphis, Wilson, Keane. They just were not going to be top players.

I get your point that if you dont give chance, you never know but the reality is its getting tougher season by season to groom younger players in any top clubs including United. The stake is too high, the risk is too high. The way we are grooming him, giving him time at wide forward position is the best way to develop him.

As Keane had 2 massive injuries, obviously that affected his greatly. Had he not had those injuries, we'll never know. He had all the attributes and the right mentality, something which Wilson and Adnan both lacked. Not sure how anyone can put Keane into a group of players who though they'd made it, so didn't put in the hard yards. Rashford is as far as I can gather working extremely hard and is impressing Jose and the coaches with his attitude.

I don't think anybody is doubting that Rashford is working hard or if he has right attitude to keep going. The day he stopped working hard, he will be kicked out of the door.

The real issue here is many believe he should be getting more minutes as center forward which is simply wrong no matter how you look at it.
Regarding Keane's injuries, I also felt that Keane was better than Rashford at same age and the injury did him. It adds to my point that there are so many variables in youth development, and most of the highly rated youngsters fade away. And especially the ones who are over reliant on Pace like Marcus.

Fair enough, I agree on most parts. The wide attacker position is a nice way for him to develop.

But regarding Fletcher; Ashley Fletcher was two years older than Rashford. And Rashford at 16 was tiny!

According to Transfermarkt Marcus Rashford has played 3486 minutes as a centre forward for Manchester United at senior level, and provided 19 goals and 7 assists. One goal every 183 minute. Considering that he dont take penalties, I would claim that this is a decent return. Zlatan Ibrahimovic played 3847 minutes last season and had 28 goals (3 penalties) and 10 assists. That is one goal every 154 min excluding penalties. But that is Zlatan!

- He has not had a consistent run as a centre forward,
- He has been 18 to 20 year during this time period (and he was late Developer physically),
- Man Utd has been quite poor during his spell,

Compare it to what Harry Kane did for Leyton Orient, Leicester or similiar. In fact, compare it to Ruud van Nistelrooy, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Luiz Suarez at the same age and it is a fantastic record. Im not sure why so many expect so much. Is it because of the exceptions like Mbappe, Ronaldo and Rooney?

Because of how brightly he's burned: scored in his debut match in every competition he's played in:
Rashford scored two goals on his United debut against Midtjylland in the Europa League in 2015 and a few days later marked his first Premier League action with two goals in a 3-2 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Last year he scored in his first League Cup match against Northampton Town and followed that by scoring in a friendly against Australia on his full England debut.

Rashford scored his first competitive goal for England last week against Slovakia in a World Cup qualifier.
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...sel-champions-league-highlights-a7943811.html

Add to that the fact he was the best performer on the pitch each of his first 4 competitive caps for England (better than his surrounding superstars), was in such good form he was keeping Martial on the bench at the start of the season, and has shown glimpses of unique qualities that make young players stand apart from the rest, and you start to realize why the expectations were so unreasonably high.

He's a very talented player with great potential, and is currently suffering through a dip in form.

The twat hosting MNF out of nowhere quizzed Henry and Carragher about whether Rashford needs to leave because we signed Sanchez, along with Redknapps comments in the same subject Sky seem to be pushing a clear agenda with this one presumably because Rashford is English

hope it's something Jose puts to bed at an upcoming press conference

Why, it is a relevant question, & would be asked of players at other teams in similar situations. We as Man Utd fans might not like it but it is certainly a discussion point, & one that Mourinho needs to quash one way or the other.

It's no more a discussion point than does Martial need to leave or does Lingard need to leave, does Bernardo Silva need to leave City? Does Lacazette need to leave Arsenal?

It's actually a less so discussion point when Rashford has more appearances this season than any other outfield player

Doesn't seem to be getting much of a look in recently but when he's had a chance he seems much more reserved in his play to me, at least compared to last season and definitely since his breakthrough season. I think Jose has maybe coached a bit of his directness out of him, or maybe it's more of a confidence issue?

The kid is lacking in confidence, but Mourinho is insisting too much with the Sanchez-Lukaku partnership which clearly isn't working, I would like to see Marcus get a game alongside Sanchez.

Confidence is gone.

Was the golden boy breaking through. Could do no wrong.

We got Zlatan in and Rashford was benched or played wide out of position. Was potentially only for a season till Rashford got his spot back.

Bring in a 75m donkey and never rotate.

We’ve mishandled him. He’s far worse player now than when he was breaking through. When Spurs were in a similar situation they gave Kane the chance and let him blossom. We’ve done the opposite.

This why i'm against to sign any young player linked with us. They could be in the same situation as Rashford. Young players cant lose a year when they are developing and gaining confidence.

Lol. Slight over reaction. Let's revisit this post in 2 years. He has never been good enough to be our number 1 striker. We all know this. He's had great spurts of form and shown massive promise, and may well go on to be a world class striker, but no manager in world football would have proceeded with Rashford as our number 1 striker at United at this stage.

Don't even know what we can do.
Every single attacker at the club is struggling.

At least he isn't shirking back from the challenge of trying to dig himself out of his current rut. He's got spirit. It's not his responsibility to win games for United. That responsibility rests on Lukaku, Sanchez, Pogba, and Mata.

That is the positive thing about him. He tried to bring some urgency when he came on.

I don't understand what's happened to his control/skills.

When he first joined us he looked really comfortable running with the ball and taking players on, he would hit some step overs or do something a bit different. Now he just pushes it and runs? Yes he's quick but that doesn't work in every situation.

I don't know if the growth spurt has put his body out of balance but he just looks so gangly now, his touch has got so much worse. He's got the talent but I honestly think he needs a loan or something to play regularly.

You don't need to go as far back as "when he first joined us." At the start of this season he was displaying his skills and technique, too, to the point he was benching Martial, and earned his first national team call-up. And in each of his first four caps, he was rated the best performer on the pitch.

Something seems to have happened during United's poor winter stretch, and the wheels kind of fell off.

If Mourinho destroys Rashford or Martial and their chances to develop at United, I will never forgive him for it. Never. It's no coincidence Rashford has been gradually getting worse and Martial is inconsistent as ever. We have no idea how to attack dynamically and properly, which is taking away all the confidence from our attacking players and even Sanchez has been shite.

Agreed, first few months of the season he was displaying very good close control and in general seemed composed with added flair and here all of the sudden he turned into kick-rush merchant. Hopefully, that's just confidence issues and to be honest that to be expected with players of his age just hope we don't marginalise him.
