This guy is god. A full back who plays like a striker and so he is a key to Real's style of play. If he wasn't a defender he would win The Ballon D'or.

And on top of that he lost both his legs in the first half but still managed to score in the 2nd.

Today and last season vs Bayern are the 2 of the best performances I've seen a left back have offensively.

He still jogged back way too often and if PSG had scored in one of those counters he'd be getting ripped apart but his quality on the ball is undeniable. That spin on Alves

He’s been worldclass a long time, but today, wow, that was something special! My man of the match without competition.

He's been fairly crap this season for the most part in my opinion. He was great today though. Probably saving his best for the end of the season and world cup.
He’s been very nonchalant and playing beach football in many games this season. But now when everything was at stake he really stepped forward.

Has gone up another level since Ancelloti and now Zidane have managed him. Didn't know he was that good.

Is there a full back who decides games or have better attacking play than Marcelo?

Probably best attacking fullback I have ever watched, but at the same time one of the worst defensively too. He could have costed them game couple of times, but still managed to bring them more in attack today.

Pretty sure their fans wanted him on the bench few times this year though.

Plays with his heart and soul. Very brave and smart. Made me realize we don't have a half of a L.B.

Said it for years, offensively the most gifted left footed left back I've ever seen and arguably the most silky full back of all time.

So underrated. Guys like Lahm get all the credit but his influence in possession is on another level.

He's a cheat code in his position. So good on the ball. Just one of those players you can give the ball to and naturally expect to do something good.

He's so much fun going forward that if he played for us I honestly wouldn't care if he was shite defensively.

He would play second fiddle to Ashley Young if he was here.

Is there any other left back quite like him?

What a player.

Better than Roberto Carlos imo

He's been pretty poor this season, but he was on fire tonight.

One of the best left backs of all time IMO. Always shows up when it really matters.

Absolutely fantastic player and has been for some time. A joy to watch, which for a LB sounds crazy.

Probably the best LB in world football. Probably has the best scream in world football too - you'd think he'd just suffered a traumatic amputation the way he went down today - really had the medical team worried before casually running it off

He's as good in attack as he is in defence. Both extremes of the highest order.

When the score was 1-1 he took the responsibility in the attack. At one point he was playing on right wing.

Completely insane player, his performance against Bayern last season was just awesome.

Safe to say that he's one of the attacking fullback all-time great.

Better than the peak Patrice Evra at United? I would probably say so
Yes I think. As good as Evra was going forward, Marcelo is even better in that department imo.

No shade to Evra though as he was brilliant. Marcelo is just that good.

I don't think the performance yesterday was great. He was very lucky for some poor final third play otherwise he was caught out several times way too far forward with PSG on the ball. If PSG had more composure around the box they could've created some very good chances down their right side.

Overall ofcourse he's a great fullback but yesterday was not evidence of that. Scoring a goal should not be the barometer of a great performance for a defender.

Extremely underrated over the course of his career. Should be counted amongst one of the best attacking full backs in history of the game.

Unquestionably so. Better to question where he stands in comparison to Roberto Carlos - he belongs in any discussion of truly great full backs alongside Dani Alves, Cafu and Javier Zanetti (Zambrotta too? I always took a particular liking to him at left back). Evra wasn’t at that level, though a good player and great servant, and a very dangerous and explosive dribbler for a full back (similar to Marcelo in that sense I suppose).

While Evra was probably stronger defensively, Marcelo adds a completely new dimension to the attack giving Real Madrid another attacker all while playing at LB. So for that reason i'd rank Marcelo higher, that's not taking anything away from Evra though.
