Ipswich go 1:0 up against Norwich in the 89th minute, resulting in McCarthy telling the Ipswich fans to feck off (they've been on his back wanting him sacked)

Then Norwich equalise in the 95th minute...

Really don't want to like the guy but have to admit he is a character and his press conferences are always good viewing

He's had Ipswich playing above their level for years now as well. If they do sack him, and give the new manager the same level of funds they've given him throughout the years, they'll go into free fall.

I always liked him. He seems a straight, honest (if sometimes stubborn) guy

Always takes on the poisoned chalice jobs which then punch above their weight - then gets blamed for lack of success and same clubs go into free fall once they ditch him. I've no idea how he handles the endless pressure cooker at small time clubs but players playing under him always seem to love him.

Him coming on at Old Trafford for the half time interview and getting roundly booed was priceless.

He reply, " Utd fans have long memories," in response to the interviewer suggesting it was of his Leeds nwas superb

Largely by playing shit on a stick football though. I don't disagree with your point but I can also see why fans who support a midtable side wouldn't be opposed to taking a risk rather than watch tumescent mediocrity week in week out.

I like Mick. Some of his press conferences over the years have been hilarious.

remains among the very worst managers of all time in my opinion. he is one of the few who, if he became a United manager (hah ha), I'd consdier stopping watching them

At top level probably yes although he did keep Wolves up for two years in the premier league.

He has his level but he's pretty decent at that level.

Keane-gate.

Neither side came out of that with much credit so to castigate just one individual for it is wrong.

Mick McCarthy is a gift that keeps on giving. Football would be boring with these characters, as long as they don't manage United that is.

Was that when Roy Keane pulled out of the Ireland squad or something due to a fight? And McCarthy was the manager?

Would you take umbridge if I expressed my joy for Liverpool slipping up? I only ask because my intense dislike for McCarthy is matched only by my intense dislike for Liverpool.
How can you dislike this man as much as you dislike Liverpool...

I think he’s a decent manager for a team with limited funds. His style isn’t pleasing on the eye.

Let’s not forget he did get Ireland to a World Cup, which was no small feat especially they were in a group with a talented Portugal and Dutch team. Ireland didn’t have many superstars like them.

Not quite right. He was sent home after a fight about how unprofessional the Irish side were set up before the World Cup in 02. They arrived to a stony pitch om an island in the middle of nowhere with no footballs. Keane was absolutely fuming which, in fairness, is his preset mode. The fight took place in front of teammates instead of privately but again an incompetent tool of a manager did not have the professionalism to pull his captain a man he made captain, to one side and talk man to man. It was poorly managed and that falls on Micks head. So Keane was sent home.

We went out to Spain on penalties. Keane was at the height of his powers. Another note on Micks incompetence Spain were down to 10 men in extra time due to injury and had used all subs. The awesome McCarthy never noticed that had happened. Mick is an absolute fool and the fact he is still employed is a joke.

16 years later and these are my thoughts on a the situation after I have got over it haha
