I'm from Maesteg. Some of my current Sunday league team mates play for Caerau at the moment.

Haha, Maesteg too. Caerau orginally, left when I was about 15/16.
Haven't lived here for decades almost, lived in Yorkshire for 12-14yrs and recently moved back down here for various reasons.

Despite Silva’s success, Merson insisted that people should still remember that he’s a foreigner.

Saying that it was important to have all the facts in mind before the fanfare got out of hand, Paul Merson reminded everyone today that Marco Silva is still a dirty foreigner despite his success in England.

Speaking after yet another win continued Silva’s unbeaten start to the season with Watford, Merson insisted that it was vital the public remembered that Silva wasn’t actually born in England before praising him too much.

“That’s all I’m saying. We shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves. He’s done alright for a foreigner but no one can deny that he is exactly that: a dirty foreigner who doesn’t belong here,” said the Sky Sports pundit today, adding – in fewer words – that it is a damning indictment of the British media that so few people even bother mentioning that Silva is from another country.

“I’ve nothing against the guy – and I don’t even really mind that he’s foreign all that much – but let’s not pretend it’s not true. Does he really know England? Does he know about fish and chips and Porridge? About the Queen Mum for God’s sake? Because I don’t think he does. It’s a joke and something Watford should consider looking into.”

Just seen this....Is this guy for real?

I doubt those are real quotes.
EDIT: I think I know what source you've got it from, it's satire.

Seems extremely fake. Watford aren't unbeaten either.

Has Merson mentioned how Mhiki is one of the best players in the Prem until this week? Also heard him say Evans is one of the best defenders in the league, did he ever mention this before Arsenal were interested?

To be fair he's always said it. Bizarre to say the least though.

Which, the Mhiki one?
Yeah he's always gone about Mhkitaryan. He probably watched one Dortmund game when he scored a couple or whatever and decided from then despite all the other evidence to the contrary.

Also going on about how Spurs are the 2nd best team in the league, the guy is a joker. The lack of respect we get from the media at the moment is disgraceful.

I wonder if it was because Mourinho didn't like Mhiki he was effectively taking his side. It seems everything thing he does is ABU so can't see him genuinely liking one of our players.

No. He was to busy thinking of how not to piss himself on the bus home.

When Mkhi was on his hot assist streak in August he called him top 5 players in the league.

Merson just said if we lose on Sunday he doesn't think we'll get top 4

1 game won't have that much of an impact for feck sake

Absolutely nothing outlandish with his opinion there. I don't know if we'll make top 4 should we lose, but anyone saying they think we still will or won't isn't saying anything crazy. Could go either way.

It wouldn't be 1 game either, it would be 3 defeats in 4 coming into the business end of the season, probably losing 2nd spot where we've been for ages and possibly seeing 5th place 1 point behind us when they were 8 back very recently.

He knows that, as they all do. It is just sensationalist crap for the headlines and to stay relevant. It will go until the final day of the season.

Merse surprisingly gets a lot of correct results when he does them for sky or whatever. He's worth a follow if you're into your betting.

Losing 1 game in February isn't going to be the difference between top 4 or no top 4.

I don't know what you mean by that.

Getting into the top 4 or not is done across the the course of the entire season. So if you get enough points you do it, if not you don't. In that sense 1 result in February is as important as 1 result in August and 1 result May.

Now there's two ways to interpret that - every individual game matters because they are part of the season as a whole. At the same time no individual game matters because 1 result doesn't shape the entire season. Both are true at the same time.

I think the thing with this game is momentum and psychology. Lose it and we'll have lost 3 out of 4 in the league, and have gone from looking comfortable in 2nd to in danger of being outside the top 4. Nervousness/doubts may set in, confidence would probably be low and then who knows? On the other hand a loss could give us a kick up the backside and we may then go on a great run of form.

Hopefully we win and all of that's immaterial.

I DJ'd in there a few times back in 2003 ish. Good times.

It's a discount shop now.
my mrs fell on the steps outside and dented her right buttock. Met someone else from the area, for my sins, and still with her. The whole town is on the downward slope it seems, full of takeaways and salons

He does indeed and in the weirdest way too...

"I fancy Liverpool to beat City because football is a game of 3 halves and they signed VVD, will probably be a high scoring 9 goal thriller... also I never bet against Stoke at home.... so 4-3 to Liverpool."

Only 2 halves, VVD doesn't play, Stoke aren't involved and only 7 goals but somehow he gets the predicted result right.
Warning: the above may not be an exact Merson quote but you get the idea.

Paul Merson on Watford: "I thought Nordin Amrabat was one of their best players last season, I thought he played well a lot of the time."

Amrabat spent last season on loan at Leganes.
