It is 100% Mourinhos fault. Do you think constantly drilling into your squad how to nullify their opponents rather than play to their strengths allows them to be confident and expansive on the ball?

He buys one of the best attacking midfielders in Pogba for 89 million and then drops him as he doesn't defend well enough. Its ridiculous.

We would be a MUCH better team with an attacking coach, I think thats obvious for most people to see.
Funny that, because two of the best Premier League midfielders we've ever seen have just slaughtered Pogba in the pre-match conversation on BT Sport. I listen and take note to what people like Frank Lampard say, and I think they've got 100 times more knowledge and experience in being a midfielder in the Premier League than Red Cafe posters like you.

How do you see us winning? Do you enjoy this shower of shite we see at the moment, which has been a constant during Mourinho's tenure here? I've backed him no matter what so far, would have backed him against Pogba if it really came to that, but this type of football is destroying my soul, I can't just pretend everything is okay and rosy, whilst the club and the fans pretend we are the biggest team in the world and what not.
So by ranting what’s going to happen? Take a break son.

Against a team who are basically unbeatable on their turf, it's an acceptable score line.
Not many teams are capable of winning on this ground (including Barca and Real).
Its not necessarily the scoreline that bothers me but the quality of our play. We can play better than this. Better performances usually lead to goals. Our attacking at present seems to be hit Lukaku with the long ball at every opportunity. No cohesion whatsoever.

Trouble is, Jose is probably asking for exactly the same in the second half.
He has no choice. He' getting let down bug time. I don' have a problem with his tactics tonight. You saw against Spurs what this bunch of cack is capable of against passing teams.

Lukaku isn't given much to do, but has done decent
Since Herrera went off we lost the midfield battle and the game changed

Ddg is the only reason we aren't behind
    Again
For all the praise our defence gets it's just not good at all

Lukaku had a 1 v 1 with their goalie. He could have chested the ball and rammed it into the net. He just volleyed a very good chance into row Z.

How we downgraded from watching elite forwards like Van Nistelrooy/Van Persie into a mediocrity known as Lukaku is hurting my soul.

The lack of positional awareness in our centre forward is concerning. Sevilla defenders didn’t even run towards marking him, they had stopped running thinking they had caught Romelu offside.....a good striker ought to know he had time & space to do whatever he wanted.

Been defending Mourinho a lot on here but I'm not sure I can watch football like that for much longer. Can't see it changing much under him though. Any decent opponent we face we soak up pressure albeit being absolute shite at sitting deep.

Lol highlights of the save. Amazing.

But what is Smalling doing ffs? He has no idea where his man is.
Yes. He spends couple of seconds hesitating and then moves slightly forward when he should be going back to cover the forward and challenge him. There was no one in front. It's like he doesn't want to compete for header so being so far away leaves it open to discussion who was supposed to keep up with the forward, him or Valencia.

I mean that's true but when it follows about 12 similarly shite performances with the same errors people are going to get riled..
Not really. This is away in the CL knockouts.... Different kettle of fish.

This is the worst first half in the history of the club. Are these players professionals? Vast majority of them can’t even control the ball with a first touch.

Matic needs to take a hard look at himself. He wins the ball and then gives it back to the opponents. His understanding of the game is atrocious.

This should be Smalling’s last match at this club. He has no organization at all. He doesn’t even look around to be aware of the danger around him. Chris Smalling is a joke.
Yep, this is the matchday thread indeed.

    City spends while United defends!
I don't even know what that was... We can't make more than 3 passes without giving it up. Terrible 1st Half.

The diving has got to stop, too. Guys on both squads just wilting like a leaf, really turns my stomach.

And I can't help but think how we still haven't found proper fullbacks, I mean, Valencia and Young have flashes of good play, but this is Manchester United, we can't find anyone in any corner of the globe that can play in those positions? The whole defense is just so strange with this patchwork of players.

Hmm. Pity. Would be a good option for the last quarter
Yeah, from the attacking point of view, Pogba should be able to take care of the long balls. But defensively, I suppose Bailly's going to get minutes as extra #6.

The problem with this minimizing risk approach by defending from Mourinho, like we were an Italian team from the old days, doesn't really seem to avoid adversaries from creating danger, we saw the same last season in Europa League, that… we've won.
True. It is not minimizing anything. It is even more dangerous than attacking IMHO

LvG and Jose have just completely sucked all joy out of watching United. It's just a case of praying for the 90 mins to get over these days.
Agreed mate. I’m sick to death of this negative football. It’s completely unnecessary.

Very conservative approach so far. We need to get Pogba Sanchez Lukaku Mata and the full backs forward while Mc Tominay and Matic sit with the CBs.

The major issue is the spaces between the players. We need to stretch the Sevilla midfield. All our players are gathering in the left half space, we need to spread out instead.

Lukaku needs to stay in and around the box, hes physically winning every battle and he would be dangerous if hes camped in their box.

For such an important champions league game that performance has been nothing short of a disgrace.

I cannot believe what has happened to our great team- we have no purpose we do not even.want to attack and if this carries on we.will get beat

Yeah I think we concede the 6th most shots on target in the PL this season. City, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal are all in the bottom 5.
Yep, I rolled that out just after the Newcastle game.

If DDG leaves then Jose needs to invest heavily in the defence

Rooney used to do perfectly well when the team wasn't build around him and when he was shifted around to accommodate the team. I'm a big fan of Pogba, but there are minimum requirements that he doesn't even come close to IMO.
Some players are more adaptable to rigid schemes than others. Pogba needs to be cut loose and allowed to roam and generally be creative.

Hate to say it but Pogba's performance so far is reminiscent of Mkhitaryan when he knew his days here were numbered. He just doesn't look interested.

Hope it changes in the second half, but I won't hold my breath.

What's the point of this forum them? Maybe it should be you "positive" lot only, you would be giving yourselves hugs and proclaiming what type of incredible top reds you are. Just fecking bin the Caf and create a new one for you and your like-minded folk.

I’ve got to say something is seriously wrong somewhere when this bunch of players look THIS bad

I’ve panned some of them for being mediocre but they are better than they are showing here
They cannot even pass the ball - by the time the ball gets to 3 players, the 4th player would hoof the ball into no man’s land and then apologise.

What a shit show!!! Whoever was in charge in the development of these players in their youth teams need to be arrested. This is an effing disgrace, the whole world is watching this rubbish.

At least de gea will get the recognition he deserves in Europe. He's been saving us for the last 3/4 years but doing it on the biggest stage of all will make people realise he is the best keeper in the world.

Do we practice passing in training?

This is nothing like the Ferguson era where we'd be negative but that negativity would come against the backdrop of really positive, fluent football in the league. And we'd never be this disjointed.

Well that's his fault because he's had plenty of time and money to change it
And you think being rich gets you the players you want. After the last 5 years it takes some persuading for the best players to come here...money or no money.
