I was intrigued to see how good this lad was, having read absolute rave reviews about him when he was out on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach. I have to say I've been seriously impressed with him this season. I think the Chelsea defence looks far more solid when he plays and he just strikes me as so calm and composed on the ball. It's scary to think that he looks this good already and he's only 21! Chelsea have a seriously good player on their hands, here.

They seem quite dependent on him considering he's still quite young, when he doesn't play they look much more vulnerable at the back.

He is very good, but he is still prone to some error here and there. Kinda like Phil Jones at his best. All rounded CB. Thing is he seems to have good fitness so keep up and he may be able to iron out those mistakes.

Yeah, he was beaten too easily by Lingard for the winner and I didn't watch the Barca game, so I can't comment. Overall though, I think he's been immense and at 21, he plays with maturity beyond his years.

Not that impressed at all - and not the right timing for the thread too considering he was at fault against Barca and us as well.

He's been the bright spark of their season. Was at fault during both the Barcelona game and game against us but Cahill had been much worse for them when playing.

Second this, he's had a few lapses of concentration that have cost Chelsea against both us and Barca. In general, though he seems really good and Chelsea's record with him is excellent if I remember correctly. The one thing I can't figure out is if he's good on the ball or not. Sometimes he looks great and confident bringing it forward and sometimes he looks a complete donkey

I haven’t watched him enough over the season but he Seems a good prospect but he’s young - so he’ll be a bit inconsistent & have the odd error in him.

One thing I think though is that defenders/CB’s always look a little bit more solid with 3 at the back.

He has been outstanding this season but, should not have been much of a surprise considering he was outstanding for Gladbach at a young age. He has everything you want in a modern CB.

Only if have CBs who are good on the ball.

Getting schooled by Lingard for a header is quite something. Also at fault for Barca's away goal. Not his best week.

Agreed with this. He had a good game, but not excellent one. Same against Barca, but having in mind his age and experience he's one of the better defenders around.

Very true. Find it quite puzzling why Luiz isn’t playing much? Thought a back 3 suited him to a tee and thought he did well last season.
Didn't Sideshow have a falling out with the toupee?

He is not as good as Rudi, Christensen or Azpi this season.
I haven’t watched enough Chelsea matches but was Luiz really that bad - to the point where he can’t even make the bench?

On topic though - Christensen and Rudiger might be the mainstay of their defense for a good while still. Both young.

Excellent young talent. Honestly surprised Chelsea recalled him and gave him a serious role instead of permanently selling him to Gladbach.

Still has mistakes in him, but i feel he will be a monster in the future. I can see him become a top CB in the next few years

Actually on the contrary now is the best time, anyone can rave about a player when they're in form

The lad has been nothing short of brilliant this season, I'd take him over quite a number of our CB's if not all bar Bailly

He’s excellent on the ball. Very composed and another reason why they haven’t missed Luiz.

Odd timing. He's just has his two worst games for us.

Lack of physicality is my only concern with him.
Doesn't invalidate the good he's done in the rest of your games. Didn't think he was that bad against either team, bare some mistakes that would be down to inexperience. If that's his low, he'll be some player.

It's fabulous timing altogether. Don't even think he was bad at all yesterday bar his lack of awareness for Jesé Messi's winner.

I love all this "strange timing for a thread" you pack of bullies!

He's been bloody class for near three seasons now and he's been fantastic for Chelsea considering he's what, 21. I made the thread because I was reading up a-bit more on him today and watching some videos from his loan spell. If people want to solely judge him on his past two games then that's swell and all but kinda silly.

And against Barca he was generally excellent but one bit of poor defending (against Man United) and a brain fart (against Barca) have cost us hugely. It's a fine line when you're a centre back between a great game and being the cause of a defeat/draw.

One of these new wave centre backs like Stones.

Not the most physical, and a love to play it out from anywhere, which can cause you to concede like v Barcelona

I didn't see the Barca game so I dunno. He's 21 and he'll make mistakes, that's the nature of the beast. All 21 year olds will but in his position it's more noticeable. I would absolutely love him at United. It's clear as day he's a-bit special and a huge talent.

Veteran defenders make mistakes all the time as well. Nature of the beast.

I was very worried back in the Summer that we'd spend huge money on someone like VVD and sell off Christensen. We have a habit of doing stupid things like that and letting very promising young players leave

Hopefully Christensen's performances this season will open up more doors and opportunities for younger players at Chelsea

With him it seemed like they had an actual plan for him unlike a lot of the other guys on their loan crew.

I think he’s been phenomenal. Haven’t had his best week, but as already said, 21-year olds make mistakes.

Very, very good for our national team as well to have a young CB playing regularly for Chelsea.
