Why is there never interest in City’s best players?

This is a serious question. Since Sheikh Mansour has taken power there is never any gossip on City players moving to likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Every summer we have the Hazard and De Gea transfer stories to Real Madrid. We have even seen Neymar move from Barcelona to PSG when it appeared an impossible transfer.

I’ve always thought Aguero would be perfect for Real Madrid up front. David Silva would slot in easily at Barcelona.

Why is there no interest in any of the Man City players? You’re telling me if Real didn’t want De Bruyne, he would turn them down to stay at City?

They may have talks behind closed doors but we will never know. I guess other clubs enquire all the time but the answer is no. Unless the players themselves show a desire to leave then there is no point go forward with any talks. Also there wages will be a problem a lot of the time.

They seem to have some space in the media that has made them untouchable over the years. Most of what you're describing above is in the media. Obviously De Gea isn't but he hasn't moved either

Always wondered this. Players often complain about Manchester weather when linked with moves to United. I guess one part of it is city don't sell papers as much as United do because they're a smaller club. United transfer rumours sells. I think we'll start seeing players linked with moves away from city once they become more successful.

Who did actually complain about the Manchester weather? Fans usually make the assumption that it's part of the reason why players prefer Madrid or Paris or Barcelona but which players came out and said it?

I *think* I remember reading that City have a gentleman's agreement with Real.

Because apart from Aguero and De Bruyne, none of their players are actually truly exceptional?

There is the odd transfer rumour about Aguero, but I'm more surprised Barca hasn't starting sniffing for De Bruyne.

I often see people say "but it's raining in Manchester, so he will probably go to Madrid or Barcelona, or the beautiful Paris", when we're interested in a player, but never when City's interested.
Do they have better weather in their part of town? :houllier:

City have absolutely unlimited resources so teams are careful about peeving them off.

Just like Barca showing public interest in PSG's Verrati just resulted in them having Neymar taken out of their hands.

big wages but it is odd - David Silva would have been a great signing for either of the big Spanish clubs a few years ago

Sane is going to be great so hopefully they start sniffing around him - maybe Jesus if he develops

De Bruyne would be their biggest target but the City squad seem pretty settled since Yaya threw his toys out of the pram and Tevez refused to play

They’re also never linked with players from elite clubs. I imagine there is some truth in agreements they have. Clubs like Real and Barca know City could attract/disrupt their best players, so it’s probably a mutually beneficial position for all parties involved. Whether it’s in the spirit of the game is another issue.

Agreed; more or less. They've had a number of top players over recent years but I wouldn't describe any as exceptional.

Money is obviously a big part of it. It's not like the City players can be paid much more elsewhere or that the owners need the cash.

I think there's stubbornness from City to sell too so clubs don't even bother trying. City is part vanity project, part promotion of Abu Dhabi. There's a lot of pride involved and it would be seen as weak to lose a big player. PSG and Veratti got mentioned which I see as similar too.

The only thing that remained was players possibly wanting to leave to challenge for the Champions League in the past. Now they look like contenders there too for the time being.

Simple-City are succesful-when we were top year after year there was never talk of Scholes, Giggs, Rooney etc going-only 2 big names we lost in years were Beckham and Staam-after fallouts with SAF and Ronaldo-a promise from SAF to allow him to fulfill a dream.

Can’t agree with that. Silva is an exceptional player and has been now for a number of years. Kompany at his best would have walked into any other PL side and Toure a few seasons back was an absolute beast of a player. Like him or loathe him Sterling has had an exceptional season and you can’t help but think he’d be courted by the Spaniards if he was at us or Chelsea.

Wasn't there quite a bit of speculation about Aguero going to Real Madrid?

Anyway, it's likely because getting those players would cost an astronomical amount of money. And it's not like they're unhappy there at the moment.

We get De Gea rumours all the time because we aren't giving him the success that such a quality keeper deserves. And while Hazard has won the title twice, in between those times Chelsea have had off seasons.

City have remained consistently good, give players good wages, don't need the money and the players seem like they can enjoy themselves.

The likes of Sliva, Aguero, Kompany who are all to different extents vital players for them, have been in this league since around 2011 and earlier.
The players they've signed around that backbone have all come from less financially enhanced clubs. They've had a solid strategy that's been honed for years and primed for the arrival of Pep. When you think about it is quite obvious they have some sort of agreement with Europe's elite, excluding PL clubs obviously. They've cherry picked Arsenal for years.

That's why there's no transfer news. They are both past it. Besides, wasn't Barca courting Toure the year he had that birthday cake meltdown?

Sterling, I can't see him moving to a foreign club and he's already at the best English club.

There was a case to be made for Kompany perhaps, but you are judging those players by Premier League standards and those standards weren't great in the previous 5 or 6 seasons. Although this season there has been a resurgence imo.

There was plenty of rumours about Tevez when he was a regular in their team.

Yaya Toure was linked with a move away when he used to play there regularly.

I’ve pondered that as the OP has, as well.

The likes of Silva and Aguero’s prime might have also been bad timing for the other clubs? As in Barca’s been pretty set over the years in both positions, ditto Madrid.

Maybe now that madrid is rebuilding and someone like KdB is showing exceptional class, entering into his prime, Sane being a massive talent - maybe we’ll find out a bit more now?

Because the ownership made it clear they'd rather park a player on the couch than sell against their will. Same as PSG

And btw, real madrid did try to sign Silva and Aguero, several times.

As for De Bruyne, it wasn't until this season that he made the leap, and City have promptly extended his contract

There's also the fact apparently players are really happy to be there and love working for that club. And now they have Guardiola as well

When it comes to rumors, contrary to some want to believe on here, they simply did not have any player that had a season like Bale, Suarez, Hazard or Ronaldo did. I happen to think Agüero and Silva are two of the best players in PL history but I am not sure they were seen in that light outside of England, especially Silva. He's always been a bit underrated playing in a position and a style where he was overshadowed by the likes of Iniesta. Bottom line is they simply never had what you would call a Galactico sort of player.

When it comes to actual transfers, the fact is, if you can compete in terms of wages as well as in terms of trophies, you simply do not lose players you want to keep. There was this myth about Real just snapping their finger and getting whoever they want but the reality is that apart from Figo, Ronaldo and Neymar, no rich competitive club has lost players they wanted to keep. Liverpool and Spurs obviously not belonging to that category.

Simple answer £££, plus our original Mancini team is strangely loyal. Kompany, Aguero, Silva etc.. all seem to have a strange loyalty to us (commendable in this day and age.).
Barca wanted Aguero ahead of Suarez, City said no, Aguero was fine with it (which is weird considering his best friend is Messi).

I think in general we didn't have players good enough for Madrid or Barca except, the 3 mentioned above and now KDB. Of those only Kun was wanted by Barca and would get in the Madrid team. Silva would never have displaced Modric, Kroos, Iniesta or Xavi. Kompany was too injury prone and our other great Yaya was deemed surplus at Barca.

So for the last few years, Madrid have been stronger than us everywhere, Barca too. That combined with us not having to sell and being able to demand big money has scared clubs off.

I think the future of Sane could be a big one, I can imagine Real being all over him when Ronaldo hangs up his boots, maybe KDB too if he has another season like the last couple.

Good question with a simple answer: $$$$$

There is no way any club in the world can compete with the wages on offer at Citeh.

Even if a player wants to leave (see Yaya Cakegate and Tevez Golfing Holiday), they can simply shut them and their agent up by stuffing them with more moolah.

Can't believe people actually believe PSG bought Neymar because of that.

How much do Pogba and Sanchez earn in comparison to KdB and Aguero?

The answer is quite simple and multiple posters already posted them on here. If you are successful and play offensive football which star players enjoy more, that helps too, besides money and their owners' policy

I've no idea, probably similar, especially considering the ease at which KdB signed his recent contract. The point about City still stands though.

Players want money - give them enough and you'll buy their loyalty. Hence why they joined City in the first place. Hence why people like Ballague are fooling no-one with their Pep or Money narrative.

why isn't there interest in City's Players ? Probably the same reasons no one tried to buy our players in our pomp.
