there was an abundance of good to excellent strikers in the PL during the early 90s. Who did you enjoy watching?

In no particular order

Stan Collymore

David Hirst

Brian Deane

Mark Hughes

Alan Shearer

Matt LeTissier

Dalian Atkinson

Quite a few more that I haven’t put here, mostly because I got bored doing it. Shout out to the likes of dean Saunders, Le God, etc

Les Ferdinand. He and Shearer should never have worked on paper, but that was a formidable partnership.

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
Les Ferdinand was my favourite of that excellent batch of English strikers back then, at least until Andy Cole signed for us. Video is strictly speaking from the wrong end of the 90s for this thread, but the quality of the goals in this match was immense.

Paul Warhurst very briefly morphing from journeyman centre back to prolific goalscorer for Sheffield Wednesday is a pleasingly random memory...

Tony Yeboah was the dog's bollocks for Leeds in the mid 90s:

There's still Ian Wright, Robbie Fowler, Teddy Sheringham, Chris Sutton, etc

Great selection indeed.

Some of Cole's goals for Newcastle:

Took him a few years to hit that kind of goal scoring form for us, although he improved immensely as a player during that time.

That was a class Newcastle team with Beardsley alongside him.

I have always maintained, that if we'd been able to sign Shearer in '92 we would have won a few European Cups with him in the team.

Yeah, England have some very good forwards in 90s.

Owen, Shearer, Fowler, Les Ferdinand, Cole, Sheringham, Ian Wright,

Gary Lineker, Graham Sharp, Brian Mclair
Linekar never played in the PL, had gone off to Japan - not sure if Sharp did either, need to look it up

although McLair had a couple of seasons upfront, he was a midfielder by the time the PL came around

A while ago I saw a compilation of Le Tissier's goals and it really impressed me. Dude was skilled for sure.

I was a big Ian Wright admirer.

Andy Cole too before he joined United and obviously after.

Have to admit early Fowler was some striker too, around 95-97 he was lethal.

Le Tissier was gifted, no question.

Shearer was the daddy of them all though, was not happy when he joined Newcastle as he would have been awesome at United. Solskjaer made up for that though, what a player he was.

In 94/95, England had a choice of Shearer, Fowler, Ferdinand, Collymore, Cole, Scholes, Le Tissier, Wright, Sheringham, Sutton, Dublin, Beardsley and then players just below that like Armstrong, Rideout, Holdsworth, Hirst and Cottee who would score 14/15 goals for their clubs near the bottom half of the table. We just bread these goalscorers.

Talking about Collymore, back around 2005-06 time there was a programme aired called something like 100 sportsmen we love to hate. He featured in there for obvious reasons but I only remember it because of the smug way one journalist expressed his disappointment of Collymore.

"He should have been the British Ronaldo....and I don't mean Cristiano"

Oh dear.

Not sure what's wrong with that, IMO Collymore had the potential to be the best of all the strikers mentioned in this thread.

The way it was said was to denigrate C Ronaldo. Back when it was popular to write him off as a showboating good for nothing ponce.

Duncan Ferguson. Could probably go down as one of the hardest players to ever come across. I wouldn't want to rob his house, that's for sure.

Anyone remember Paul Warhurst for Sheffield Wednesday in the early 90s? He was actually a defender turned striker and scored a respectable number of goals.

Can't find a compilation video of his goals, just the odd goal here and there:

I always found it amazing that a defender could play up front and do so well. Can't think of many other instances of that happening. I know Gullit went from striker to defender in his later years but that's an easier transition you would think.

We all love United
Mark Viduka. That guy could do almost anything with a football, brilliant striker in that great Leeds team in the 90s

Paulo Di Canio was very good as well

Yeah someone mentioned him earlier. Didn't Ian Marshall play at the back and up front for Oldham too? Seem to remember him scoring a few versus United.

Totally missed this and I just posted about him. He definitely stands out for me as well given he was a defender.

Julian Joachim still plays. The league is just two down from the Conference
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Joachim

Carbone was a character :D
No, it's 5 down from the Conference, the Conference is level 5 on the levels pyramid, East Midlands Counties league is tier 10.

Joachim REALLY must love his football to persevere at that level. He wouldn't even be getting paid, I wonder what else he does for money?

Chris Sutton and Dion Dublin did it too. Seems to be a thing of the past.
